Overview
Copper Ingots are one of the first processed metals you will craft in Starsand Island. They are smelted from Copper Ore at a Furnace and serve as a foundational material for early-game progression. Copper Ingots are required for crafting Bronze, Copper Sheets, and several tool upgrades. You will need them almost immediately after unlocking your first Furnace.
Smelting Recipe
Copper Ingots are smelted at a Furnace I (the basic Furnace). The recipe and processing details are as follows:
Detail | Value |
|---|---|
Station | |
Ingredients | 4 Copper Ore + 1 Charcoal |
Output | 1 Copper Ingot |
Processing time | 6 seconds per ingot |
The Furnace itself is one of the simplest crafting stations to build, requiring only 8 Stones. Place it near your home and it is ready to use. You can queue up multiple Copper Ingots in a row; the Furnace will process them back to back.
Where to Get Copper Ore
Copper Ore is mined from rock nodes that have a brownish-orange appearance, with small orange gems embedded in them. It is one of the most common ores in the game and can be found in several areas near your starting location as well as deeper in the Moonlit Forest.
Location | Notes |
|---|---|
North of your house | The path heading away from your home plot has several Copper nodes and is the most convenient early-game spot |
South of your house plot | Rock nodes near the pathway leading toward the Moonlit Forest |
Cavern behind the Damaged Door | A small cave near your home; contains Copper Ore right from the start |
First area of the Moonlit Forest; scattered nodes and ground spawns | |
Inside the Moonlit Forest; additional ore nodes as you progress |
Copper Ore can also be found lying on the ground in the wild, though mining rock nodes yields significantly more per trip. Ground spawns are scattered around your house and across the forest south of it.
Mining Tool Requirement
Copper is the first ore that requires an upgraded pickaxe. The Stone Pickaxe cannot mine Copper Ore. You need at least the Impulse Pickaxe, which is the first critical tool upgrade in the game. Refer to the Tools page for the Impulse Pickaxe crafting recipe.
Getting Charcoal
Each Copper Ingot requires 1 Charcoal. Charcoal is made by processing Wood in the Charcoal Kiln. It is a good habit to process a batch of Wood into Charcoal the night before an ore-processing day so you have a ready supply when you start smelting in the morning.
Crafting Uses
Copper Ingots feed into a long list of crafting recipes, especially during the early and mid game. The most important downstream uses are:
Recipe | Station | Ingredients | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Copper Sheet | 1 Copper Ingot + 1 Copper Ore | Required for the Ore Analyzer and multiple tool upgrades | |
1 Copper Ingot + 1 Tin Ingot + 1 Charcoal | First alloy; needed for Junior-tier recipes and tool upgrades | ||
Ore Analyzer | 2 Copper Sheets + 8 Hardwood | Essential crafting station for processing Ore Chunks |
Role in Junior Crafter Quest
Copper Ingots play a central role in the "Become a Junior Crafter" quest from Zerine. The first step of this quest requires you to make 2 Copper Sheets at the Cutter (each costing 1 Copper Ingot and 1 Copper Ore). After making the Copper Sheets, you combine them with 8 Hardwood to craft an Ore Analyzer at the Worktable. Completing this quest unlocks the Junior Crafter rank and opens up a wide range of new blueprints at the General Store.
Supply Chain at a Glance
Understanding the full supply chain helps you plan your resource gathering:
Mine Copper Ore from rock nodes using the Impulse Pickaxe.
Process Wood into Charcoal at the Charcoal Kiln.
Smelt 4 Copper Ore + 1 Charcoal into 1 Copper Ingot at the Furnace.
Use Copper Ingots to make Copper Sheets (at the Cutter) or Bronze (at the Furnace with Tin Ingots).
Copper Sheets and Bronze feed into tool upgrades, the Ore Analyzer, and more advanced crafting recipes.
Tips
The Furnace processes one ingot every 6 seconds, so you can queue up a large batch and walk away to handle other tasks.
Always carry your Impulse Pickaxe when exploring. Copper nodes appear frequently along paths you walk every day, and mining them opportunistically keeps your supply high.
Copper Ingots can also be found in secret chests scattered around the island, so keep an eye out for Treasure Maps that point to processed material rewards.
Bronze requires both Copper Ingots and Tin Ingots. Mine Tin Ore alongside Copper Ore whenever possible so you always have balanced supplies of both.
Do not neglect your Charcoal Kiln. Running out of Charcoal is the most common bottleneck when smelting large batches of Copper Ingots.
