Overview
Some Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia prefer dry environments with low humidity. Ground-type, Rock-type, and certain Fire-type Pokemon often thrive in arid conditions. Creating a dry habitat involves using dry blocks, placing the Smooth Rock item, removing water and vegetation, and shielding habitats from rain. Meeting a Pokemon's dryness preference raises its Comfort Level.
Methods to Make a Habitat Dry
Method | Details |
|---|---|
Use Dry Blocks | Place the habitat on dry field grass or barren ordinary soil. These block types are guaranteed to not have moisture. Keep the habitat away from plants and water sources. |
Place a Smooth Rock | The Smooth Rock dries up the area surrounding it, affecting blocks and vegetation up to 5 blocks away. The effect is not instantaneous; it takes a couple of seconds to dry out nearby tiles. |
Avoid Water Sources | Keep habitats away from bodies of water. Any nearby water (fresh water, ocean water, hot-spring water, muddy water) increases humidity in the area. |
Remove Vegetation | Remove any flowers and living plants near the habitat to decrease humidity. Dry grass and other withered plants are fine to keep; they do not raise humidity. |
Build a Roof | A roof prevents rain from falling on the habitat. Once dry ground has been rained on, it will no longer be dry. A roof protects dry blocks from rain and maintains low humidity. |
Build in Caves | Natural caves with full roofs provide complete protection from rain. Place habitats inside caves to guarantee a dry environment as long as no water sources are present inside. |
Obtaining Dry Blocks
Use the Rock Smash move on dry field grass or barren ordinary soil to break and collect dry blocks. Hold ZR to continuously destroy blocks for faster collection. An alternative source of dry blocks is the Wasteland Dream Island, accessible via the Eevee Doll.
Smooth Rock
The Smooth Rock is a placeable item that actively dries out the surrounding area. When placed, it affects blocks and vegetation within a 5-block radius. This is the most effective tool for creating a dry zone because it continuously counteracts moisture even if nearby conditions change.
Range: Up to 5 blocks in all directions from the Smooth Rock.
Speed: The drying effect takes a couple of seconds to process after placement.
Stacking: You can place multiple Smooth Rocks to cover a larger area.
Weather Protection
Rain is the biggest threat to dry habitats. Once dry ground gets rained on, it absorbs moisture and is no longer considered dry. Build a roof over dry habitats to prevent this. Alternatively, you can use a Pokemon with the Burn specialty at a Sunny Day site to change the weather to sunny and get rid of rain.

Tips
The Smooth Rock is the most powerful drying tool. Place it in the center of your dry zone for maximum coverage (5-block radius).
Always build a roof over dry habitats to protect them from rain. Once dry ground gets wet, you need to dry it out again.
Dry grass and withered plants are fine to leave near dry habitats. Only living, hydrated plants increase humidity.
You can use a Burn specialty Pokemon at a Sunny Day Site to change the weather to sunny and prevent rain.
The Wasteland Dream Island (via the Eevee Doll) is a good source of dry blocks if you need more.
Fossil Pokemon all prefer dry habitats. If you are raising fossils, set up a dedicated dry zone with Smooth Rocks and a roof.
You can check the area a habitat covers by pressing the Right Stick on your controller to see the white outline.
