Overview
The Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak is a craftable cloth cloak in Crimson Desert that provides 0 base defense and Ice Resistance Lv.3. It is one of three cloth cloaks that share the same crafting recipe of 10 Cloth Pieces and 2 Fleece, alongside the Delesyian Cloth Cloak and the White Bloodwind Cloth Cloak. All three start at 0 defense but can be refined up to 10 levels at a Blacksmith to increase their defense over time.
This cloak is part of the Greywolf Set, the iconic armor worn by Kliff on the game's box art and promotional materials. The complete Greywolf Set spans multiple equipment slots and includes the Grey Wolf's Sword, Grey Wolf Wooden Shield, chest armor, boots, and the Master Trainer's Touch gloves. While there are no set bonuses for wearing all pieces together, equipping the full Greywolf Set recreates Kliff's signature look from the cover art.
Cloth cloaks provide Ice Resistance, making them effective against frost-based enemies, ice magic, and cold environmental hazards. In Crimson Desert, cloak material type determines the elemental resistance: Cloth grants Ice Resistance, Leather grants Lightning Resistance, and Plate grants Fire Resistance.
In-Game Description
"A cloak for freeswords who roam the frontier. Rough cloth and frayed edges blend with the wind, blurring the wearer's silhouette. Its excellence in blocking the chill and staying hidden makes it ideal for tracking and ambushes."

How to Obtain
The Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak is crafted at any Blacksmith. Before the recipe becomes available, players must first acquire the Cloth Armor of the World, Vol. I crafting manual. This recipe book can be found on the table next to Tina's shop in the City of Hernand. Players can purchase it for 50 Copper or, if wearing a mask, steal it.
Once the manual has been examined, the Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak recipe unlocks at every Blacksmith in the game. The same manual also unlocks recipes for other Grey Wolf cloth armor pieces, including the chest armor, helm, gloves, and footwear variants.
Purchasing From the Tailor in Pailune
In addition to crafting, the Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak can be purchased from Lola, the tailor in Pailune. This option becomes available after progressing to approximately Chapter 7 or Chapter 8 of the main story, when Lola's shop inventory expands to include Greywolf Set pieces.
The cloak and the Grey Wolf Leather Boots are both available together at Lola's shop. The combined cost for both items is around 9 Silver and 52 Copper. Purchasing from Lola is a convenient alternative for players who want the cloak without gathering crafting materials, though the cost is higher than crafting it yourself.

Lola's trust level may also affect her inventory. Some players report that the Grey Wolf chest armor only appears after raising her trust high enough, so building a relationship with her through repeated purchases and interactions can unlock additional Greywolf Set pieces over time.
Crafting Materials
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
10 | Enemy drops (bandits); Provisioner's Shop in Hernand (Chapter 4+) | |
2 | Enemy drops; Provisioner's Shop (Chapter 4+); Greymane Camp ranch (sheep) |
Where to Find Materials
Cloth Pieces drop from defeated enemies, particularly bandits found throughout the Hernand Region. After reaching Chapter 4 of the main story, players can also buy Cloth Pieces from the Provisioner's Shop in Hernand Town. The shop restocks daily at midnight (in-game time), so check back regularly if you need large quantities.
Fleece can be looted from enemies, purchased from the same Provisioner's Shop after Chapter 4, or produced sustainably through the ranch at Greymane Camp. To unlock the ranch, progress through the Grounds of the Sunrise quest until you meet Ben and Kamu during the Goldleaf Trading Post quest. After reuniting with Ben at camp, complete the Field of Abundance quest chain to build the ranch, which allows sheep to produce Fleece as a renewable resource.
Refinement
The Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak can be refined up to 10 levels at any Blacksmith. Each refinement level increases the cloak's base defense. Because the cloak starts at 0 defense, refinement is especially important if you plan to use it in combat.
Refinement does not cost Silver. It requires only materials. For cloth cloaks, the primary refinement materials are Cloth Pieces and Fleece. Levels 1 through 4 use only standard materials and are relatively inexpensive, making early refinement highly recommended. From Level 5 onward, each upgrade also requires Abyss Artifacts in addition to the standard materials. Abyss Artifacts are a limited resource earned by filling the yellow gauge (left of the minimap) through defeating enemies, completing Challenges, and quest rewards.
The Refinement Preview feature at the Blacksmith lets you scroll through all ten levels to check the stat gains and material costs before committing. Use this to plan your resource spending, especially at higher levels where Abyss Artifacts are involved.
Elemental resistance does not change through refinement. A fully refined Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak will still provide Ice Resistance Lv.3, the same as an unrefined one. The only stat that improves is defense.
Grey Wolf Equipment Line
The Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak belongs to the Greywolf Set (also called the Grey Wolf equipment line), the set of equipment that Kliff wears on the game's box art and in promotional materials. The set spans multiple item categories and material types. While the Grey Wolf pieces do not provide set bonuses when worn together, equipping the full Greywolf Set gives Kliff his signature look. Armor sets in this game primarily affect cosmetic appearance rather than granting special stats for equipping a full set.
Known Grey Wolf Pieces
Item | Slot | Material | |
|---|---|---|---|
Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak | Cloak | Cloth | Ice Resistance Lv.3 |
Chest | Cloth | ||
Main Hand | Metal | Attack | |
Ranged | Wood | Ranged Attack | |
Lightning Resistance Lv.1 | |||
Off Hand | Wood | ||

The pieces in the Greywolf Set come from several different sources. The Grey Wolf's Sword and Grey Wolf Wooden Shield are Kliff's starting weapons, equipped from the beginning of the game. Armor pieces like the cloak, boots, and chest armor can be crafted using recipes from the Cloth Armor of the World, Vol. I and Leather Armors of the World manuals, or purchased from the tailor Lola in Pailune after Chapter 7. The Master Trainer's Touch gloves complete the set, rounding out the full Greywolf look. The Grey Wolf Leather Boots provide 2 defense with Lightning Resistance Lv.1 and are crafted with 4 Thin Hide and 1 Thick Hide.
Elemental Resistance
Ice Resistance reduces damage from frost-based attacks, freezing status effects, and cold environmental hazards. This resistance is valuable in snowy or mountainous regions of Pywel, against ice-wielding enemies, and during encounters with bosses that use frost magic.
At Lv.3, the Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak provides moderate Ice Resistance suitable for general exploration and early encounters with frost threats. Higher-tier cloaks like the Bear Hide Cloak (Ice Resistance Lv.5), the Reindeer Cloak (Ice Resistance Lv.5), and the Frostcursed Plate Cloak (Ice Resistance Lv.5) offer stronger protection for endgame frost encounters.
Comparison With Other Cloth Cloaks
Ice Resistance cloaks form the largest group among all cloaks in the game. The following table compares the Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak against other cloth cloaks and notable Ice Resistance alternatives.
Cloak | Ice Res. | How to Obtain | Special Effect | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak | 0 | Lv.3 | Crafted (10 Cloth Pieces, 2 Fleece) | None |
0 | Lv.3 | Crafted (10 Cloth Pieces, 2 Fleece) | None | |
0 | Lv.3 | Crafted (10 Cloth Pieces, 2 Fleece) | None | |
2 | Lv.3 | Crafted (5 Hay, 10 Cloth Pieces) | None | |
1 | Lv.3 | Enemy drop / loot | None | |
3 | Lv.3 | Back Alley Shop (20.88 Silver) | Civilian Disguise | |
3 | Lv.3 | Found in the world | Jackal Disguise | |
3 | Lv.3 | Quest reward (Familiar Curses) | St. Halssius Disguise | |
3 | Lv.5 | West of Scholastone Institute | Disguise | |
2 | Lv.3 | Quest reward / Tailor Shop | None |
Because the Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak, the Delesyian Cloth Cloak, and the White Bloodwind Cloth Cloak all share 0 base defense, identical Ice Resistance Lv.3, and the same crafting recipe, the choice between them is purely cosmetic. For a stronger starting defense without refinement, consider the Scarecrow Cloak (2 defense, craftable), the Disguise Cloak (3 defense, purchasable for 20.88 Silver from the Back Alley Shop), or the Reindeer Cloak (3 defense, Ice Resistance Lv.5, found west of Scholastone Institute behind a secret wall).
Tips
Starting at 0 base defense, this cloak relies on refinement to become combat-effective. Prioritize upgrading it at the Blacksmith if you plan to use it long-term.
Levels 1 through 4 of refinement only require standard materials (Cloth Pieces and Fleece) and are inexpensive. Refine early for a quick defense boost.
From Level 5 onward, refinement also requires Abyss Artifacts. Consider whether to spend those artifacts on cloak refinement or on unlocking combat skills.
Ice Resistance is helpful in snowy or mountainous areas, against frost-wielding enemies, and during boss fights involving ice magic.
If you want a stronger cloak right away without investing in refinement, look for the Disguise Cloak (3 defense, doubles as a civilian disguise) or seek out the Reindeer Cloak near Scholastone for 3 defense and Ice Resistance Lv.5.
Stock up on Cloth Pieces and Fleece from the Provisioner's Shop in Hernand after Chapter 4. The shop restocks daily at midnight in-game time.
For a sustainable Fleece supply, build the ranch at Greymane Camp and raise sheep. This avoids relying solely on enemy drops or shop limits.
The Cloth Armor of the World, Vol. I manual near Tina's shop in Hernand is cheap (50 Copper) and unlocks recipes for the full set of Grey Wolf cloth equipment. Pick it up early.
If you have progressed past Chapter 7, you can skip the crafting process entirely by purchasing the Grey Wolf Cloth Cloak from the tailor Lola in Pailune. The cloak and Grey Wolf Leather Boots are available together for about 9 Silver 52 Copper total, which is convenient if you want both pieces at once.
Building trust with Lola in Pailune may unlock additional Greywolf Set pieces in her shop. Visit her regularly and make purchases to increase her trust level, which can eventually add the chest armor to her inventory.
