Leather
Leather materials in Crimson Desert are animal hides obtained through Hunting. These hides are a primary component in Crafting leather-based armor, including body armor, gloves, boots, and cloaks. Different animals yield different types of hide, and the quality of the hide determines what tier of equipment can be crafted from it.
Leather falls under the Crafting Materials category. Players who focus on hunting as a core gameplay activity will accumulate large quantities of hides over time. The five hide types range from common Thin Hide, dropped by smaller creatures, to the much rarer Sturdy Hide and Long Hair Hide found on larger or more dangerous animals.

Where to Find Leather
All leather materials are obtained by hunting wild animals throughout the open world. After killing an animal, players can loot its carcass to receive hides along with meats and sometimes bones. The type and quantity of hide dropped depends on the species and size of the animal.
Small creatures like rabbits and foxes yield Thin Hide and are abundant in the lowland meadows around Hernand. Larger animals such as boars and wolves, found in forested regions, drop Thick Hide. For Sturdy Hide, players will need to take on bears and other dangerous predators in remote wilderness areas. Short Hair Hide comes from domesticated and plains animals, while Long Hair Hide is most commonly found on highland creatures living in mountainous terrain.
Uses
Leather is used primarily in the crafting of armor at crafting stations. Leather armor provides a balance of defense and mobility, making it popular with players who favor agility-based builds. Different hide types correspond to different armor tiers:
Thin Hide is used in basic, early-game armor that offers light protection with minimal weight penalties.
Thick Hide and Short Hair Hide are mid-tier materials suitable for armor that balances protection and flexibility.
Sturdy Hide and Long Hair Hide are used for the highest-tier leather armor, offering substantial defense while remaining lighter than plate armor alternatives.
In addition to armor, hides are occasionally required in crafting recipes for equipment accessories, saddle components, and certain tools.
Tips
Hunting animals with a bow or ranged weapon is often more efficient than melee, since many animals flee when startled.
Check the animal's health bar color before engaging. Larger, tougher animals indicated by higher threat levels drop the rarer hides.
Sturdy Hide can also occasionally be purchased from specialty vendors in larger towns, though the price is significantly higher than farming it through hunting.
