Overview
Familiar Curses is the 35th main quest in Crimson Desert. A rumor has reached the Greymane Camp that a Greymane caused a rampage at St. Halssius's House of Healing, a restricted healing institution in Hernand. Kliff must infiltrate the facility to find out what happened. Inside, he discovers Yann, a Greymane who has been subjected to a painful Visione helm procedure that left him in a violent, frenzied state.
This quest is the last part of the Homestead sub-chapter of Chapter III. It appears on your map immediately after completing the previous quest, Return of the Comrade. The quest features multiple entry methods (disguise, visitor's pass, pickpocketing, or stealth) and reveals important lore about the Visione technology and its misuse by institutional figures in Hernand.

Getting Inside the House of Healing
The House of Healing is a restricted facility, and Kliff cannot simply walk through the front door. There are four ways to gain entry, ranging from free stealth approaches to paid disguises.
Method | How to Do It | Cost |
|---|---|---|
Buy the Priest Outfit | Speak with the man at the corner of the buildings across the bridge from the House of Healing. Purchase the full Halssius Priest costume set (Attire, Cloak, Footwear, Hat) and equip all four pieces. | 10 Silver |
Buy a Visitor's Pass | Travel to the Church of Hernand on the eastern side of Hernand and purchase a St. Halssius Visitor's Pass from the confessional. This pass grants unlimited entry to the House of Healing. | 10 Silver |
Climb the rooftops and crouch through the grass past the guards. Stay undetected to reach the interior without a disguise or pass. See the detailed walkthrough below. | Free | |
Pickpocket Guards | Pickpocket the guards patrolling the outer walls of the House of Healing to collect individual pieces of the Halssius Priest outfit (Attire, Cloak, Footwear, Hat). Results are not guaranteed on each attempt, so multiple tries may be needed to collect all four pieces. Equip the full set to enter through the main entrance. | Free (not guaranteed) |
Recommended: The priest outfit method is the simplest and most straightforward. The outfit also doubles as a quest reward that you keep permanently, making it a good investment. Equip all four pieces of the costume before approaching the entrance.
Crime and Bounty Consequences
Your choice of entry method affects how the Law System treats you once inside. If you sneak in without authorization (stealth route), you are considered an unauthorized intruder. The guards will appear as enemies on your map after the confrontation with Yann, but you must not attack them. Since you are there illegally, attacking a guard counts as a crime. A bounty will be placed on your head, and if someone reports you, you get sent back to the last checkpoint.
If you entered through a purchased method (the Halssius Priest Outfit or the Visitor's Pass), the situation changes entirely. You are considered an authorized visitor, so you can freely fight and defeat the guards who attack the patients without being labeled as a criminal. This is one of the key advantages of paying the 10 Silver entry fee.
Nearby Vendor
Along the left road from the bridge (on the way to the stealth route), there is a vendor a few meters ahead. Interacting with him is optional and not required for the quest, but he sells several useful items:
Item | Price |
|---|---|
5 Silver | |
10 Silver | |
20.88 Silver | |
23.74 Silver |
The Disguise Cloak and Camouflage Outfit are useful for other stealth situations throughout the game but are not needed for this particular quest.
Stealth Route: Detailed Walkthrough
If you choose to sneak in rather than pay, follow these steps carefully. The route is straightforward once you know it, but getting spotted by guards means combat or a restart.
Start at the bridge. Stand in front of the two large guards blocking the main entrance. Do not approach them. Instead, take the road on the left side and follow it.
Pass the vendor. A vendor appears along the left road after a few meters. You can shop if you want, but it is not necessary.
Stop at the cart. When you see a cart on the right side of the road, stop. This is your landmark for the climbing point.
Climb the rocks. Turn left and climb the rocks on the opposite side of the road. There is a guard at medium distance, so crouch immediately after reaching the top.
Reach the rooftop. Climb through the building structure all the way to the roof. Walk to the right side, and you will see the courtyard below.
Drop into the courtyard. Drop down on the closest corner to you. Your way into the building is directly below your landing point.
Crouch through the interior. Crouch and cross to the inner side of the building. Note: the game can be slightly buggy in this section. Kliff sometimes leans against the wall or gets stuck. If this happens, keep trying and reposition.
Avoid the interior guards. There is a guard in the room directly ahead and another guard in the room on the left. Stay crouched and do not enter their line of sight. If they see you, the stealth section fails.
Turn right. Walk to the end of the hallway. You will find a group of patients being attacked. Walk toward them until a cinematic triggers.
Civilians are allowed to see you during the stealth section. Only the guards marked as enemies on your minimap will trigger a detection failure.
Purchased Entry Navigation
If you bought the Halssius Outfit or the Visitor's Pass, enter through the main gates. Follow the rocky path toward the building on the farthest side of the compound. You can use the well in the courtyard as a reference point. Look for people coming out of the building wearing silver Visione items to confirm you are heading in the right direction. Go upstairs in the main building to reach the same hallway where the patients are being attacked.
Walkthrough
Investigate the House of Healing
Once inside, head to the main building's second floor. Go to the south wing above the inner courtyard. In the hallway, you will find a man attacking patients. This is Yann, who has been driven to a violent frenzy by a Visione helm experiment. The facility has been using iron helmets to force visions into patients' minds, effectively torturing them under the guise of healing.
Confront the Overseer
A confrontation with the House of Healing Overseer follows the discovery of Yann's condition. The Overseer attempts to justify the experiments as necessary treatment, but Yann is having none of it. In a burst of rage, Yann overpowers the Overseer and forces the Visione helm onto him, giving the Overseer a taste of his own medicine.
Collect the Abyss Artifact
Before chasing after Yann, take a moment to explore the area. An Abyss Artifact can be found in one of the side rooms or corners of the facility during the investigation phase. These are valuable progression items, so do not leave without it. According to some accounts, Yann also grabs an Abyss Artifact from the Overseer during the confrontation.
Follow Yann
Chase Yann as he flees across the rooftops of the facility. He is fast and frantic, but the path is linear. He eventually drops down into a cottage on the far side of the compound. Follow him through a gap in the compound's inner wall. When he emerges on the other side, a Pywell Wagon is waiting.
Escape to Nas River Fishing Dock
Board the Pywell Wagon with Yann. The wagon ride takes you away from the House of Healing to the Nas River Fishing Dock, where the quest concludes. During the ride, Yann begins to calm down and shares fragments of what happened to him. The full story of his captivity and the Visione experiments unfolds in the following quests. After arriving at the dock, dismount and head to the highlighted area to complete the quest.
With Yann safe, you must return to Marius to begin the next main questline.
Rewards
Reward | Details |
|---|---|
Torso armor piece; part of the priest disguise set | |
St. Halssius Priest's Cloak | Back piece; part of the priest disguise set |
Foot armor piece; part of the priest disguise set | |
St. Halssius Priest's Hat | Head piece; part of the priest disguise set |
The St. Halssius Priest outfit set is awarded regardless of which entry method you used. The four pieces function as wearable equipment with their own stats, and the set doubles as a disguise for future visits to Halssius-controlled areas.
Lore: The House of Healing
St. Halssius's House of Healing is officially a medical institution, but the quest reveals a darker truth. The facility has been illegally imprisoning patients and using iron Visione helmets to damage their minds. The technology that Kliff uses voluntarily to read memory fragments is being weaponized here as a tool of torture and control. Yann's violent state is a direct result of prolonged forced exposure to these devices.
This revelation plays a larger role in the story going forward. The Visione technology, its origins, and its potential for both good and harm become a recurring theme in later chapters.
Tips
The priest outfit is the most practical entry method. You keep the outfit as a reward regardless of how you enter, so buying it early just makes the infiltration smoother.
The Visitor's Pass grants unlimited re-entry. If you plan to revisit the House of Healing (for example, to explore the hidden treasure at St. Husius's House of Healing), the Visitor's Pass is a worthwhile investment.
Stealth entry means no-combat rules. If you sneak in, do not attack the guards even after Yann's confrontation. You are unauthorized, so fighting guards triggers the Law System and places a bounty on you. If someone reports you, you restart from the last checkpoint.
Purchased entry allows combat. If you entered using the Halssius Outfit or the Visitor's Pass, you can freely fight and defeat the guards without being labeled a criminal.
If you choose the stealth route, getting spotted by guards forces you into combat with them. Defeating them still lets you proceed, but the disguise routes are quieter and less risky.
Do not forget the Abyss Artifact inside the facility. Check corners and side rooms during the investigation phase before chasing Yann.
Yann becomes an important Greymane companion going forward. His violent state during this quest is temporary; he recovers and plays a major role in the faction's story.
The rooftop chase after Yann is scripted and linear. You cannot lose him, so do not stress about keeping up. Just follow the path.
Watch for a bug during the stealth section. Kliff may sometimes lean against the wall or get stuck when crouching through the interior passage. If this happens, keep trying different angles to move forward.
Only enemies can spot you. During the stealth route, civilians are allowed to see you. Only the guards marked as enemies on your minimap will cause detection.
