Overview
Grounds of the Sunrise is one of two Greymane faction quest chains in Crimson Desert. This chain focuses on tracking down scattered Greymane survivors across Pywel, reuniting them at the Greymane Camp, and expanding the camp's facilities through their specialized skills. As survivors return, they unlock new camp services: the trading post, the cook, the quartermaster, mission dispatches, and more.
According to Beebom's quest catalogue, the Grounds of the Sunrise category contains 38 quests, making it the single largest Faction Quest chain in the game. The quests span multiple regions and chapters, beginning after Greymanes Reunited at the end of Chapter 3 and continuing well into the endgame.

Confirmed Quests
Below is a list of every confirmed quest within the Grounds of the Sunrise chain. These quests send Kliff across all five regions of Pywel to track down former Greymane members based on rumors and leads. Each recruited survivor brings a unique skill that unlocks or upgrades a camp facility.
Quest | Objectives | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
Marius received news about Greymane survivors. Deliver word that the Greymanes are back in full strength. Find survivors at Hills of No Return and Glenbright Farm. Complete mission dispatches for timber and stone collection, then report to Luke. | Abyss Artifacts x2, Beer x5, Wine x2, Lean Meat x6, Medium Bag x1, +280 Greymane Contribution, +50 Trust of Luke | |
Track down scattered Greymane survivors across the region. Follow leads to remote locations and convince former members to return to camp. | Abyss Artifact x1, Feathers x4, Copper Ore x3 | |
For a Better Tomorrow | Work toward rebuilding and securing the future of the Greymanes. This quest serves as the culminating mission for the camp expansion arc. | Pending confirmation |
A Rumor at Glenbright Farm | Investigate a rumor about a former Greymane member hiding at Glenbright Farm. Recruit Brice, the wagon manager, who unlocks the trading post at camp. | Cook and Quartermaster unlocked at camp |
The remaining quests in the 38-quest chain follow a similar pattern: follow a rumor or lead, travel to a distant location, find the scattered Greymane member, help them resolve a local problem, and escort them back to camp. Each quest's name typically references the location or circumstance of the survivor.
Camp Facility Unlocks
The primary gameplay payoff of the Grounds of the Sunrise chain is the camp expansion system. Each recruited Greymane survivor brings a specialized skill that unlocks or upgrades a specific facility at the Greymane Camp. The Greymane Camp Guide covers these facilities in detail.
Facility | Unlocked By | Function |
|---|---|---|
Mission Dispatches | Completing Embers of Return | Assign Freeswords to resource-gathering expeditions. Progress depends on in-game time. Each Freesword has unique skills that affect mission performance. Managed through Ross. |
Trading Post (Wagon) | Recruit Brice via A Rumor at Glenbright Farm, then complete Timberturner Wainwright missions | Convert provisions into packaged trade goods. Monitor trading center prices across regions to maximize profit. |
Cook | A Rumor at Glenbright Farm | Cook dishes at the pot. The cook sells prepared dishes with limited daily stock and recipes for repeated preparation. |
Quartermaster | A Rumor at Glenbright Farm | Manage camp supplies and purchase provisions from the quartermaster. |
Blacksmith (Tranan) | Recruit Tranan through a later Grounds of the Sunrise quest | Buys and sells gear with limited stock, ammunition, and refinement items. |
Farm | Camp expansion progression | Plant crops and raise animals on ranch facilities for ingredient procurement. |
Blockade Deployment | Recruit enough Freeswords | Deploy Freeswords to fight in blockaded regions, reducing enemy numbers in those areas. |
How the Chain Works
Grounds of the Sunrise quests follow a consistent structure:
1. Rumor Discovery: A rumor about a former Greymane member surfaces at camp, often through Marius or another companion's intelligence network.
2. Travel to Location: Kliff rides to the rumored location, which can be anywhere in Pywel. Early quests stay close to Hernand, while later quests send the player to Pailune, Demeniss, and beyond.
3. Resolve the Situation: The survivor is usually in some kind of trouble: held captive, in hiding, wounded, or entangled in a local dispute. Kliff must solve the problem through combat, negotiation, or both.
4. Recruit and Return: Once the situation is resolved, the survivor agrees to return to camp. They may appear at the Greymane Camp immediately or after a short in-game time delay.
5. Facility Unlock: The returning Greymane activates a camp feature tied to their specialty.
Relationship to Scattered Embers
Grounds of the Sunrise and Scattered Embers are the two parallel branches of the Greymanes' Faction Quest system. Grounds of the Sunrise handles the expansion and recruitment side, while Scattered Embers covers day-to-day life and community-building at camp. Progress in one chain often feeds into the other: recruiting a new Greymane through this chain may trigger a Scattered Embers quest where that character settles into their new role.
Rewards
Grounds of the Sunrise quests reward items focused on progression and camp infrastructure:
Abyss Artifacts: Multiple quests in the chain award Abyss Artifacts, which grant skill points for the branching ability tree. Embers of Return alone gives two.
Crafting Materials: Copper Ore, Feathers, Lean Meat, Timber, and other materials are common quest rewards.
Camp Facility Upgrades: The real payoff of this chain. Each recruited survivor unlocks a new camp service.
Greymane Contribution: Completing quests adds to the Greymane faction Contribution total, which can reach high bonuses like the +280 from Embers of Return.
Consumables: Beer, Wine, and cooked food items appear as supplementary rewards.
Tips
Prioritize A Rumor at Glenbright Farm. Recruiting Brice unlocks the Cook, Quartermaster, and eventually the trading wagon. These are among the most useful camp services and should be obtained as early as possible.
Always have active Mission Dispatches. After completing Embers of Return, deploy Freeswords on missions whenever you leave camp. This is the best passive resource accumulation method in the game.
Bring an Engineering-skilled Freesword for the wagon. The Timberturner Wainwright missions that unlock the wagon require a Freesword with the Engineering skill. Assign one early.
Check rumors after main story milestones. New recruitment rumors tend to surface after major chapter transitions. Return to camp and speak with Marius regularly.
Do not skip Reuniting with Comrades. This quest awards an Abyss Artifact plus useful crafting materials. It is one of the most efficient quests in the chain for rewards per time invested.
Scattered Embers quests unlock as you recruit. If you want more camp life content from Scattered Embers, focus on recruitment quests here first to populate the camp with new quest givers.
