"A plate cloak once worn by Samara, the Sandwatcher. The fabric is heavily permeated with the stench of gunpowder. It was dyed with a pitch black color, making it impossible to tell if it is actually stained with gunpowder."
The lore ties this cloak to Samara, a figure known as the Sandwatcher. The mention of gunpowder suggests Samara was involved in ranged combat or explosive ordnance, fitting the "Marksman" title. The pitch-black dye was likely a deliberate choice to conceal gunpowder stains during operations.
How to Obtain
The Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak is found inside Warrior's Soul Cave (also called Warrior's Soul Cavern), a hidden waterfall cave located along the Denn River in Drywind Valley, Delesyia. The cave sits in the far eastern portion of the map. To reach it, travel east past Demeniss, continue past the Breezel Blown Null, and head north of Drywind Valley toward the river. The waterfall entrance is along the riverbank at the bottom of the river, northeast of Demeniss, near a rail track. Look for a large waterfall wedged between two cliffs.
To reach the cloak, follow these steps:
Travel to the Denn River: Head far east through Demeniss and into the Drywind Valley region. Continue north toward the river. The waterfall entrance is along the Denn River, northeast of Demeniss.
Find the waterfall: Look for a large waterfall along the riverbank at the bottom of the river, wedged between two cliffs. The cave entrance is hidden directly behind the falling water.
Use a thrusting attack to breach the waterfall: Stand in front of the waterfall on the rocky path at its base and use the Stab ability (R1 + Triangle on PlayStation, or RB + Y on Xbox) to thrust through the waterfall and enter the cave. You cannot simply walk through the waterfall without performing this attack.
Loot the cave: Inside Warrior's Soul Cave, you will find multiple chests and other goodies scattered around the chamber. The main, larger treasure chest contains the Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak.
No enemies guard the chests, so obtaining this cloak is a straightforward free pickup once you reach the cave. The process is considered relatively easy compared to other mythical-tier equipment that requires boss fights or lengthy quest chains.
Additional Loot
The Warrior's Soul Cave contains more than just the cloak. Along with several smaller chests holding miscellaneous supplies, the cave also rewards players with a Refined Palmar Pill. Unlike a standard Palmar Pill that revives you with 30% of your total health, the Refined Palmar Pill revives you at full health (100%). This makes the trip to the cave doubly worthwhile, as the Refined Palmar Pill is one of the most valuable consumables in the game.
Built-In Helmet Appearance
The Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak has a unique cosmetic property: when equipped, it applies its own built-in helmet visual that replaces the appearance of your currently equipped headgear. The helmet design has a hooded plate mask that covers the face, giving your character a menacing, armored look. Your headgear stats remain unchanged, but the visual is overridden entirely.

Toggle-Able Hood
The Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak has a hidden cosmetic feature: the hood can be toggled on and off. To toggle the hood, open the equipment menu and select the cloak again while it is already equipped. The toggle is purely cosmetic and does not affect stats.

While the Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak is often praised for its appearance, its Fire Resistance Lv.3 does serve a practical purpose. The fire resistance is particularly useful during encounters with Bleed Bandits who wield flamethrowers, as well as any other fire-based enemies or environmental hazards. Players exploring volcanic or fire-themed areas may find this cloak provides a noticeable damage reduction.
Because the cloak comes at refinement level 3 straight out of the chest, it is immediately combat-ready without requiring additional resources to upgrade. This makes it an excellent early pickup for players exploring the eastern regions of the map. For later-game content where fire resistance becomes critical, players may want to upgrade to the Plate Cloak of the Shadows which offers Fire Resistance Lv.7.
Dark Marksman Set
The Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak is part of a four-piece Dark Marksman armor set. The set consists of four equipment pieces but notably does not include a helmet since the cloak itself provides its own built-in helmet visual. This means the Dark Marksman set is one of the few armor sets in the game where the headgear slot remains open for another piece of equipment while the set's visual identity stays intact through the cloak's override.
The connection between this set and Samara, the Sandwatcher, is further reinforced by the boss encounter. Players who have faced Samara in combat will recognize the visual design of the Dark Marksman armor on the boss itself. Defeating Samara is not required to obtain the cloak (which simply sits in Warrior's Soul Cave), but the encounter provides additional context for the lore behind the equipment.
Known Issues
A visual bug has been reported where chained spears appear on the character's back when gliding with this cloak equipped. Re-equipping the cloak temporarily resolves the issue.

Hood Toggle
Pressing interact on the Dark Marksman's Plate Cloak a second time after equipping it lifts the hood up or down. The first press equips, the second toggles.
