Overview
Damiane is one of three playable characters in Crimson Desert, alongside Kliff and Oongka. She is a member of the Greymanes mercenary group and specializes in speed, precision, and tactical versatility. Her combat style rewards skilled players who favor agile, evasion-based tactics over brute force. Damiane is the fastest and most mobile of the three playable characters, built for players who prefer to dance around enemies rather than absorb hits. She is voiced by Rebecca Hanssen, known for her roles as Alfira in Baldur's Gate 3, Eve in Stellar Blade, and characters in Arknights: Endfield and Wuthering Waves.
Backstory
Damiane is on the run from something in her past, and she has never told Kliff the real reason why. This mystery, revealed in the official "Meet the Cast" trailer, is central to her character arc. The details of what she is running from remain intentionally unresolved and are presumably uncovered through gameplay. As a Greymane, she shares the group's history of being scattered after Myurdin's ambush, but her personal stakes appear to extend beyond the factional conflict.
Personality
Hanssen described Damiane as "very down to earth, a fierce fighter, and headstrong." She is someone who "will stand up for what she believes in regardless of who is telling her otherwise." Hanssen further characterized her as "both a brave warrior and someone with a stubborn, uncompromising streak" who refuses to back down from her principles even when it puts her at odds with others. Despite her combative exterior, Damiane is deeply loyal to the Greymanes and their cause. Hanssen noted that portraying Damiane was "incredibly cathartic" because it allowed her to channel a sense of justice that contrasts with the actress's naturally conflict-avoidant personality.
Appearance and Customization
Damiane has been shown in multiple outfit sets across promotional materials. One features a regal look with a white cape, gold gauntlets, gold pauldrons, and a gold headpiece. An alternative set uses similar pauldrons and gauntlets on a pure black outfit. Like all playable characters, her base appearance is fixed with no character creation, but cosmetic customization options including hair color, hair style, and clothing variations are available through in-game Barber shops. Each character is individually motion-captured, lending a different feel and personality to their gameplay.
Weapons
Damiane wields a wider range of weapon types than any other character, seamlessly transitioning between melee and ranged combat depending on the situation. Players equip two weapons at a time, and different pairings create distinct playstyle builds.
Weapon | Type | Playstyle |
|---|---|---|
Claymore | Two-handed greatsword | Heavy sweeping strikes with wide arcs and sheer force; her primary melee weapon for crowd control |
Rapier and Buckler | One-handed sword with shield | Faster, more precise attacks with quick-step dodges and shield parries |
Pistol | Short-range firearm | Quick shots at close-to-mid range; useful for finishing off staggered enemies |
Musket | Long-range firearm | Charges for a delayed but powerful shot; effective for opening engagements from a distance |
Parasol Machine | Aerial weapon and gadget | Functions as both a combat weapon and her flight/traversal tool; used in the Aerial Skirmisher build alongside the Claymore |
Weapon Builds
Damiane's weapon pairing system creates distinct loadout builds, each with a different combat identity.
Build | Weapons | Focus |
|---|---|---|
Steel Rose | Rapier + Pistol | Fast melee with quick ranged follow-ups |
Heavy Vanguard | Claymore + Musket | Heavy melee with long-range opening shots |
Aerial Skirmisher | Claymore + Parasol Machine | Melee power combined with aerial mobility |
Gunslinger | Pistol + Musket | Pure ranged combat with mixed firearm types |
Key Abilities
Beam of Light:
One of Damiane's most powerful abilities. She calls down a beam of light that strikes the ground, and any enemy caught in the impact area is disabled for a significant duration. This leaves them completely vulnerable to follow-up attacks, making it a devastating crowd-control tool that can turn the tide of difficult encounters.
Spinning Kick into Izuna Drop:
One of Damiane's signature combo moves. She performs a spinning kick that catches an airborne enemy mid-fall. Before the target can recover, she grabs them and performs an Izuna Drop, slamming them headfirst into the ground. This chains directly into a ground execution for massive damage.
Quick-Step Dodge Chains:
Damiane's evasion is built around precise quick-step dodges that maintain offensive momentum. Successful dodges flow directly into counterattacks, allowing her to punish enemy whiffs without losing position.
Aerial Magic:
From elevated positions or after launching into the air, Damiane can cast offensive spells that hit targets below. This adds a vertical dimension to her combat style that other characters lack.
Grappling and Kicking:
Beyond her weapons, Damiane can use close-combat grapples and kicks. She can grab enemies and launch them from above, knocking them down or killing them instantly with well-timed aerial grabs.
Traversal
While Kliff uses the Crow's Wing for gliding, Damiane has her own unique traversal gadget: a propeller device (the Parasol Machine) that allows her to glide through the air. By spinning the propeller faster, she can achieve true sustained flight rather than just a controlled descent. This makes Damiane's aerial traversal fundamentally different from Kliff's glide and gives her unmatched vertical and horizontal air mobility.
Playability
Damiane is not available from the start of the game. She is unlocked by progressing through the main story, which can only be advanced by Kliff. Once unlocked, players can freely switch to Damiane for open-world exploration of Pywel and side content, but she cannot be used to advance the main campaign. Damiane has unique missions tailored to her character that are separate from Kliff's main storyline.
Combat Role
Damiane's playstyle rewards tactical thinking and precise execution. She excels at outmaneuvering opponents through speed and positioning rather than absorbing damage. Her high-risk, high-reward design means she deals massive damage but is more fragile than Oongka, requiring skillful dodging to survive. Players who enjoy reading enemy patterns, timing dodges to create openings, and chaining combos through weapon swaps will find her especially satisfying. Her ranged options (pistol and musket) provide flexibility that Kliff and Oongka do not have, and her Beam of Light ability gives her a powerful crowd-control option for group encounters.
