Overview
Damiane is one of three playable characters in Crimson Desert, alongside Kliff and Oongka. She is a member of the fallen House Spencer who fled to Hernand seeking refuge and eventually joined the Greymanes mercenary group. Damiane specializes in speed, precision, and tactical versatility. She is classified as a glass cannon: the fastest and most mobile of the three playable characters, capable of devastating damage output, but significantly more fragile than Kliff or Oongka. Her combat style rewards skilled players who favor agile, evasion-based tactics over brute force.
She is voiced by Rebecca Hanssen, known for her roles as Alfira in Baldur's Gate 3 and Eve in Stellar Blade.
Starting Stats
When Damiane becomes playable she arrives with the following base stats. Compared to Kliff's starting Health of 300 and Oongka's 1,125, her pool of 750 sits in the middle on paper but is effectively the lowest because she lacks heavy armor and sustained blocking. Her Spirit of 220 is the highest of any character at unlock, reflecting her reliance on magical and focus-based abilities.

Backstory
Damiane belongs to House Spencer, one of the noble families that once held significant power within the political hierarchy of Pywel. The house was destroyed in circumstances that remain partially unclear, and all of the Spencer family records were deliberately erased. Left with nothing at a young age, Damiane was taken in by a swordmaster who trained her in both combat and a personal code of honor. This mentor shaped her fighting style, her sense of justice, and her refusal to compromise on her principles.
The Search for the Swordmaster
When the swordmaster mysteriously vanished, Damiane launched her own investigation into what happened. That search drew the attention of dangerous figures connected to the forces responsible for her family's downfall, and she was forced to flee. She traveled to Hernand to seek sanctuary, arriving as a guest of the Marquis. Her exact relationship with the Marquis remains unclear, though it appears she was seeking protection through whatever connections House Spencer still held among the Demenissian nobility.
Despite being on the run, Damiane displays a mental fortitude and down-to-earth nature that earns the respect of those around her. The details of who pursues her and what truly happened to her mentor are central mysteries of her personal questline. These threads connect to the broader political conflicts between the noble houses of Pywel, making her story arc a window into the power struggles happening beyond the Greymanes' immediate concerns.
How to Unlock
Damiane becomes playable early in Chapter III: Howling Hill. Specifically, the quest First Step to Rebuilding triggers her introduction. This occurs during the Homestead portion of the story, when Kliff is establishing the Greymane Camp. A soldier escorts the player to Howling Hill, a property held by House Serkis. After arriving at the camp and speaking with Barden Middler, a cutscene introduces Damiane and her origins. Barden insists she remain at the Greymane camp for safety, and from this point forward she is available as a playable character.
There is an important gameplay restriction: main story quests cannot be advanced while controlling Damiane. Only Kliff can progress the main storyline. Damiane has her own unique questline that progresses exclusively while playing as her. When switching characters, Damiane remains at the last location where the swap occurred, and her position resets independently of Kliff's progress through the world.
Personality
Rebecca Hanssen described Damiane as "very down to earth, a fierce fighter, and headstrong." She is someone who "will stand up for what she believes in regardless of who is telling her otherwise." Hanssen further characterized her as both a brave warrior and someone with a stubborn, uncompromising streak who refuses to back down from her principles even when it puts her at odds with others.
Despite her combative exterior, Damiane is deeply loyal to the Greymanes and their cause. Hanssen noted that portraying Damiane was "incredibly cathartic" because it allowed her to channel a sense of justice that contrasts with the actress's naturally conflict-avoidant personality. That tension between righteous determination and personal vulnerability makes Damiane one of the more layered characters in the party.
Appearance and Customization
Damiane has been shown in multiple outfit sets across promotional materials. One features a regal look with a white cape, gold gauntlets, gold pauldrons, and a gold headpiece. An alternative set uses similar pauldrons and gauntlets on a pure black outfit. Like all playable characters, her base appearance is fixed with no character creation, but cosmetic customization options including hair color, hair style, and clothing variations are available through in-game Barber Shops. Each character is individually motion-captured, lending a different feel and personality to their gameplay.
Equipment dyes are available through the Dye System, allowing players to customize the color of each armor piece's main surface, cloth details, and accent trim. Dyes are found through exploration or crafted via alchemy. All cosmetic changes are purely visual with no gameplay effect.
Starting Weapons
Damiane begins with a diverse loadout that covers melee, ranged, and defensive options. Players equip two weapons at a time, and different pairings create distinct playstyle builds. Her starting arsenal includes:
Weapon | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Her signature one-handed thrusting sword. Delivers a fast 5-hit thrust combo, the fastest melee string among all playable characters. Critical hits on enemy weak points deal 30-40% bonus damage. | ||
Greatsword | A claymore with wide sweeping arcs for crowd control. Features an overhead sweep attack that launches surrounding enemies. Can transition into rapier strikes mid-combo for fluid weapon swapping. | |
Short-range firearm | A mid-combo ranged tool that fires between melee attacks without breaking stride. Used for punishing enemies who create distance or finishing wounded targets at close range. | |
Dagger | A quick sidearm for close-quarters combat, emphasizing dexterity and speed in tight engagements. | |
Buckler / Shield | A small defensive shield from Demeniss. Enables quick-step parries with a faster parry window than any other character. Can be thrown at enemies via the Shield Toss skill, bouncing between targets before returning to Damiane. |
Combat Style
Damiane's combat identity revolves around speed, evasion, and overwhelming offense. She is the fastest playable character in the game, built around precision rather than endurance. Where Kliff balances offense and defense and Oongka overpowers enemies through brute force, Damiane dances around her opponents, punishing openings with rapid strikes and disengaging before counterattacks land. She has the lowest health pool and weakest blocking of the three characters, making her the riskiest but highest-reward option.
Rapier Combat
The rapier is Damiane's most technical melee weapon. Its basic combo is a 5-hit rapid thrust chain, the fastest melee string in the game. Landing these thrusts on enemy weak points triggers critical hits that deal 30-40% bonus damage over normal strikes. The rapier pairs with her buckler, which enables a quick-step parry that activates faster than any other character's parry window. Skilled players can parry an incoming attack and immediately counter with a full thrust combo for massive damage.
The rapier really shines against bosses and single tough enemies. Its per-hit damage is lower than the greatsword, but the attack speed and critical hit modifier more than compensate when hitting weak points consistently. The Sword Flurry skill (R1 + X) adds a dodge-and-slash mechanic that lets Damiane evade and attack simultaneously, making it her bread-and-butter damage extender during prolonged fights.
Greatsword Combat
The Absolute Justice Greatsword provides Damiane with crowd control she otherwise lacks. Its wide sweeping arcs hit multiple enemies at once, and an overhead sweep attack launches surrounding targets into the air. Despite being a two-handed weapon, Damiane's greatsword animations are surprisingly fast for its class, chaining horizontal slashes into thrust attacks with minimal recovery frames.
A key strength of Damiane's greatsword play is that she can transition from claymore swings directly into rapier thrusts mid-combo, letting players clear a crowd with wide arcs and then focus a single target with precise stabs.
Firearms
Damiane's pistol functions as a mid-combo tool rather than a standalone weapon. She can fire the Spencer Pistol between melee attacks without breaking her attack stride, weaving shots into rapier and greatsword combos. Her musket fills a different role: it delivers a single powerful shot that pierces light armor, but has a long reload time. The musket is best used as an opener before closing to melee range.
Ranged combat expands significantly through the skill tree. Charged Shot (R2 while aiming) lets her charge a powerful bullet before firing. Evasive Shot (Circle twice while aiming) performs a sidestep dodge and fires simultaneously. Quick Reload (learned through observation) speeds up reload time. Focused Shot (L3 + R3 while aiming) slows time and allows up to 4 rapid shots. Marksmanship increases base ranged damage through further investment.
Aerial Combat and Parasol Machine
Damiane is the only playable character capable of aerial magic attacks. She has access to a Parasol Machine that allows gliding and sustained aerial combat. Double Jump (press Square twice) gives her a second jump off the ground or off an enemy. Flight (Square while airborne) deploys the glider for sustained travel. Swift Flight (X during Flight) reduces air resistance for faster movement. Skystep (L3 in mid-air) deploys an Abyss Fan powered by Scholastone technology, giving her a burst of vertical lift.
From the air, she can perform aerial grapples, Meteor Kicks (Triangle while high in the air), and her signature Izuna Drop. The Parasol Machine covers more horizontal distance than Kliff's Crow's Wing, making her the best character for reaching distant platforms and crossing large gaps during exploration.
Izuna Drop
The Izuna Drop is a Ninja Gaiden-style aerial grab finisher. Damiane launches an enemy into the air, grapples them mid-flight, and pile-drives them headfirst into the ground. The impact deals approximately 250% of a rapier heavy attack's damage and produces an area-of-effect shockwave that damages nearby enemies. It requires aerial positioning through Double Jump, Flight, or Aerial Grapple to set up.
Setting up the Izuna Drop requires some work. The enemy needs to be airborne (launched by an Uppercut, for example), and Damiane herself needs to be in the air to initiate the grab. The payoff is worth the effort: it is one of the highest single-hit damage abilities in her entire kit and can turn a losing fight around if timed correctly against a boss's stagger window.
Unarmed Combat
Damiane can fight hand-to-hand using what the game describes as "dexterity and martial arts techniques." Her unarmed moveset includes spinning kicks, scissor kicks, flying kicks, tornado kicks, and a lariat. These strikes chain naturally into weapon attacks, allowing her to push back a crowd with kicks before following up with claymore or rapier strikes.
The full unarmed tree is deep. Pressing Triangle performs a basic punch. Leg Sweep (Triangle after rolling) trips enemies. Scissor Takedown (hold Triangle while crouching) wraps her legs around an enemy and brings them down. Scissor Kick (hold Triangle) delivers a cross-legged strike. At higher investment levels, Flying Kick (hold Triangle in the air, requires Unarmed Combat Lv 4) launches her at an enemy, and Meteor Kick (Triangle while high in the air, requires Unarmed Combat Lv 5) drives a precise diving kick downward.
Signature Moves
Hands-on previews and official trailers have revealed several signature combat moves unique to Damiane.

Press L1 + R1 to reflect light and temporarily blind enemies in range. Auto-unlocked, costs no Abyss Artifacts. |
Weapon Transitions
Damiane can swap between her equipped weapons on the fly mid-combo, creating fluid attack chains that alternate between melee and ranged. A typical Damiane combo might start with rapier thrusts, transition into a spinning kick to create distance, fire a pistol shot, and then close back in with a claymore sweep. The Quick Swap skill (L1 + L2) makes these transitions instantaneous with an accompanying power strike.
This weapon-swapping fluidity makes her the most technically demanding character but also the most creative in terms of combo construction. Players who invest time into learning her weapon swap timings can create pressure loops that never give enemies a chance to recover.
Spell Casting and Elemental Abilities
Unlike Kliff and Oongka, Damiane can cast spells directly from her hands without relying solely on the Axiom Bracelet for elemental effects. Her magic manifests as both direct offensive abilities and weapon infusions. The Imbue Elements skill lets her add elemental damage to her existing weapon attacks, while standalone spells give her ranged magical options that no other character possesses.
Her elemental skills sit on the Health (red) branch of her skill tree. Each base element must be unlocked before Imbue Elements becomes available. Once at least one element is learned (Flame Rush, Frost Mantle, Lightning Strike, or Storm Pillar), the Imbue Elements skill can be purchased for 1 Abyss Artifact, which then opens up elemental variants of her core combat skills.
Skill | Input | Element | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
R2 + Triangle | Fire | Lunge forward with a flame-charged punch, closing distance while dealing burn damage. | |
R2 + Square | Ice | Create a barrier of frost around Damiane, providing protection and slowing nearby enemies. | |
R2 + Circle | Lightning | Release an electric burst that shocks nearby enemies. | |
R2 + X | Wind | Pull nearby enemies into a raging whirlwind with explosive force. | |
Passive | Variable | Infuses Damiane's current weapon with elemental damage for a duration. Requires at least one base element. | |

L2 + R2 during Meteor Kick | Variable | An aerial kick infused with elemental energy for enhanced aerial combat. Requires Imbue Lv 4. |
Skill Trees
Damiane's skills are organized into three color-coded trees. Skills are unlocked and upgraded using Abyss Artifacts. Stat upgrades (Health, Stamina, Spirit) made on Kliff's skill tree carry over to Damiane, but individual skill levels must be upgraded separately for each character. Several skills share names with Kliff's abilities but maintain separate progression paths and sometimes different input commands.
Stamina Skills (Blue Tree)
The Stamina tree focuses on active combat abilities, weapon techniques, and physical attacks. This is the largest of Damiane's three trees and covers the majority of her melee, ranged, and unarmed skills. Most skills cost 1 or more Abyss Artifacts to unlock, with inner skills branching off parent abilities at specific levels.

Health Skills (Red Tree)
The Health tree contains Damiane's elemental abilities, flight skills, and supernatural combat options. This tree is what sets her apart from Kliff and Oongka most dramatically, giving her access to magic and aerial movement. The base elements (Flame, Frost, Lightning, Wind) must be unlocked individually before the Imbue Elements skill and its branching elemental variants become available.

Recommended Skills for New Players
For players picking up Damiane for the first time, the community and the Build Guide: Damiane page recommend prioritizing five skills:
Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
: Slows time and unlocks Shield Sentinel and Blade Sentinel. The slow-motion window lets you set up parries and combos more consistently. | |
: Deploys an autonomous combat companion that attacks enemies near Damiane. Requires Focus Lv 2 and Shield Toss Lv 2. | |
: Strong ranged area damage that bounces between enemies. Easy to use and scales well with the Proficiency and Expertise upgrades. | |
: Reliable ranged burst damage from a spear of light. Sure Hit at Lv 3 removes any accuracy concerns. | |
: Her bread-and-butter rapier combo extender. The dodge-and-slash mechanic lets her stay aggressive while remaining safe. |
Glass Cannon Identity
Damiane's "glass cannon" label reflects a deliberate design trade-off. She deals more damage per combo and has faster attack speed than both Kliff and Oongka, but she takes significantly more damage when hit and has the lowest effective health pool of the three. Players choosing Damiane must commit to an aggressive, evasion-heavy playstyle where avoiding damage is more important than blocking or absorbing it.
Her buckler provides some defensive capability when using the rapier loadout, but it is a small shield designed for quick parries rather than sustained blocking. The quick-step parry it enables is faster than any other character's parry window, rewarding precise timing. Players who try to play Damiane like a tank will find themselves overwhelmed quickly; she is designed to reward those who master the dodge and parry systems.
For players who want Crimson Desert to feel harder, Damiane is the pick. Speed comes at a cost, and that cost is zero room for sloppy play.
Voice Performance
Rebecca Hanssen provides both the voice and full performance capture for Damiane. Hanssen's prior roles as Eve in Stellar Blade and Alfira in Baldur's Gate 3 established her as a voice actress comfortable with action-heavy fantasy characters. Her motion capture work ensures Damiane's in-game movements, gestures, and facial expressions carry the same personality as her spoken lines.
Hanssen has described the recording process as allowing her to channel a sense of righteous determination that she finds personally cathartic. She noted that Damiane's refusal to back down from injustice, regardless of the odds, resonated strongly with her own values.
Gameplay Tips
Damiane cannot advance main story quests. Switch back to Kliff when you need to progress the main storyline, then return to Damiane for her personal questline.
When you swap characters, Damiane stays at the last location where the switch occurred. Plan your swap points so she is positioned near quest objectives.
Master the quick-step parry with her buckler. The window is faster than Kliff's or Oongka's, and a successful parry into a full rapier thrust combo is one of the highest-damage punishes in the game.
Use the pistol mid-combo rather than as a standalone weapon. Fire between rapier thrusts or after greatsword swings to extend your damage without creating recovery gaps.
Invest in Shield Toss early. It provides strong ranged area damage and its upgrades (Proficiency at Lv 2, Expertise at Lv 3, then Elemental at Imbue Lv 3) make it versatile throughout the entire game.
Take advantage of aerial combat. Double Jump into Flight or Skystep, then use Meteor Kick or Izuna Drop for devastating aerial finishers that most enemies cannot counter.
Do not try to block heavy attacks with the buckler. It is designed for quick parries only. Against powerful strikes, use the quick-step dodge instead.
Observation matters. Several of Damiane's best skills (Sword Flurry Proficiency, Skewer, Quick Reload, Tornado Kick, Spinning Scissors Throw) require watching NPCs or enemies perform them before you can learn them. Pay attention during combat and visit observation points.
The Focused Shot combo (L3 + R3 while aiming) is extremely strong against bosses. Slowing time and firing 4 rapid shots gives you a burst window that is hard to match with melee alone.
Flame Rush closes distance quickly and deals burn damage. Use it as a gap-closer when enemies try to kite you after a dodge.
