Chainsaw
The Chainsaw is the endgame woodcutting tool in Starsand Island and the final upgrade in the axe tool chain. It chops trees and gathers wood dramatically faster than any axe or machete, making it one of the two most impactful Senior Crafter upgrades alongside the Electric Drill. The Chainsaw Blueprint is purchased from Zerine's General Store after reaching Senior Crafter certification in the Crafter profession.
How to Unlock
The Chainsaw is a Senior Crafter tool, the fourth of five Crafter profession tiers. Complete Zerine's Senior Crafter trial quests to unlock the blueprint at the General Store. The Chainsaw Blueprint becomes available alongside the Electric Drill Blueprint, and most players purchase both at the same time.
Crafting Materials
The Chainsaw is built at the Worktable and uses the exact same materials as the Electric Drill. All four components require late-game resources gathered from the deeper zones of the Moonlit Forest.
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
Meteor Plank | 6 | Craft at Cutter III using Lunar Crystals and Premium Wood |
Chip | 5 | Found in late-game treasure chests or crafted from rare components |
Eternal Alloy | 6 | Craft using Flamecore Ingots, Alloys, and Coal at the Furnace |
High Performance Wire Set | 8 | Crafted from processed metals at advanced stations |
Since the Chainsaw and Electric Drill share the same recipe, gathering materials for both simultaneously saves time. You will need 12 Meteor Plank, 10 Chips, 12 Eternal Alloy, and 16 High Performance Wire Sets total for the pair.
How It Works
The Chainsaw operates like an axe but at dramatically higher speed. Use it on trees across the island surface and in the Moonlit Forest to gather Softwood, Hardwood, and Premium Wood. It clears trees in fewer swings than any previous tool, making it ideal for both resource gathering and land clearing.
Like all tools, the Chainsaw consumes stamina per use. Its high speed means faster stamina depletion per time period compared to slower axes. This tradeoff is addressed by the stamina recovery integration added in patch v0.3.2537.
Stamina Recovery Integration
The March 6, 2026 patch (v0.3.2537) added stamina recovery skill effects to the Chainsaw, matching the same improvement given to the Electric Drill. Profession skills from the Explorer skill tree now partially recover stamina during Chainsaw use. This makes extended logging sessions much more sustainable, especially when clearing large areas for land expansion or gathering Hardwood in bulk.
Wood Types
The Chainsaw can harvest all three wood types in the game. Higher-tier woods are found in deeper or later-accessed areas.
Wood | Source | Uses |
|---|---|---|
Softwood | Common trees on the island surface and early Moonlit Forest zones | Basic crafting, Softwood Planks, early-game tools, furniture, building materials |
Hardwood | Hardwood trees in deeper areas and Moonlit Forest mid-zones | Advanced crafting, Hardwood Planks, mid-game equipment, upgraded furniture |
Premium Wood | Rare trees in late-game areas and deep Moonlit Forest | High-tier furniture, specialty crafting, Meteor Planks, endgame blueprints |
Premium Wood is the most valuable and the hardest to find. The Chainsaw makes farming Premium Wood nodes practical, turning what would be a long grind with lower-tier tools into a quick gathering run.
Complete Woodcutting Tool Progression
The Chainsaw sits at the top of a five-tier woodcutting tool chain. Each tier unlocks through the Crafter profession.
Tool | Crafter Tier | Materials | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Axe | Apprentice | 2 Stone, 2 Softwood | Starting tool; chops Softwood trees |
Impact Axe | Junior | 10 Copper, 10 Fluorite, 5 Softwood | Faster chopping; blueprint from Exploration Club |
Machete | Junior | 4 Hardwood Plank, 4 Iron Sheet, 2 Radiant Crystal, 3 Bronze, 1 Impact Axe | Can harvest Hardwood; requires Impact Axe as component |
Sharp Machete | Intermediate | 5 Starflare Crystal, 5 Rubber, 1 Machete | Faster Hardwood chopping; can harvest Premium Wood |
Chainsaw | Senior | 6 Meteor Plank, 5 Chip, 6 Eternal Alloy, 8 High Perf. Wire Set | Endgame tool; fastest speed with stamina recovery |
Unlike the mining chain where each tool is consumed as a component for the next, the Chainsaw recipe does not require a Sharp Machete as input. You still need to reach Senior Crafter tier through the progression, but the Chainsaw is crafted from raw materials rather than upgrading a previous tool.
Chainsaw vs. Electric Drill
The Chainsaw and Electric Drill are the two Senior Crafter tools. They share the same blueprint cost, recipe, and unlock tier. The only difference is their function.
Feature | Chainsaw | Electric Drill |
|---|---|---|
Function | Chops trees (wood) | Mines ore nodes |
Resources Gathered | Softwood, Hardwood, Premium Wood | All ore types |
Recipe | 6 Meteor Plank, 5 Chip, 6 Eternal Alloy, 8 Wire Set | Identical |
Unlock | Senior Crafter | Senior Crafter |
Stamina Recovery | Yes (v0.3.2537) | Yes (v0.3.2537) |
Robot Pairing | Logging Robots | Mining Robots |
Tips
Buy both the Chainsaw and Electric Drill blueprints when you reach Senior Crafter. They are the two most impactful tool upgrades at that tier and share the same material requirements.
Invest in Explorer profession skills for the stamina recovery synergy. It makes extended logging sessions sustainable without constant food breaks.
The Chainsaw is excellent for clearing land quickly. If you are expanding your farm through land expansion, the Chainsaw saves significant time cutting down trees in new areas.
Pair manual Chainsaw use with Logging Robots for a hybrid approach. Robots handle background logging in the Moonlit Forest while you chainsaw priority trees on the surface.
Hardwood and Premium Wood are in high demand for late-game blueprints. Use the Chainsaw to build up reserves early so you are not scrambling for materials when you need them.
Bring stamina food on logging trips even with the stamina recovery skills. The recovery offsets but does not fully eliminate drain during intensive tree clearing.
