Serenity's Rest
Complete guide to Serenity's Rest in Starsand Island's Moonlit Forest. Covers the late-game zone with Moonstone and Aurorite ore deposits, the torch-lighting puzzle that opens the bridge to Moonlight Meadow, the Runebird encounter north of camp, treasure chest locations, and preparation for the Ruin Guard final boss.
Serenity's Rest
Serenity's Rest is one of the final zones in the Moonlit Forest, located between Homeward Trail and Moonlight Meadow. It serves as the last campsite before the Ruin Guard final boss fight. The zone contains some of the rarest ore deposits in the game, including Moonstone and Aurorite, and features a torch-lighting puzzle that must be solved to open the bridge to Moonlight Meadow.
How to Reach Serenity's Rest
Serenity's Rest is reached by progressing through Homeward Trail, a large zone of wooden scaffolding and ancient ruins that follows Grain Haven. Homeward Trail contains multiple aggressive Runebird enemies that patrol the walkways, though they can be avoided by sprinting past them. After navigating through the scaffolding and descending the staircases in Homeward Trail, the path opens into the calmer Serenity's Rest zone.
Campsite
The Serenity's Rest campsite is the last campsite before the Ruin Guard boss. It includes the standard tent, campfire, worktable, and Moonweaver crystal (5 Fluorite to repair). Repairing this Moonweaver is strongly recommended: if you die during the Ruin Guard fight in Moonlight Meadow, you will respawn here rather than at an earlier campsite.
This camp is also the ideal place to prepare for the final boss. Use the worktable to craft any last-minute ammunition, and cook healing food at the campfire. Make sure you have everything you need before proceeding, since the Ruin Guard is the toughest fight in the Moonlit Forest.
Resources
Serenity's Rest and the surrounding wooden paths contain some of the rarest ores in the Moonlit Forest:
Resource | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Moonstone | Ore | Rare late-game ore; needed for the Luna Deer summoning altar after the Ruin Guard |
Aurorite | Ore | High-tier ore used in Expert-level crafting; Aurorite Ore is Aurelis's favorite gift |
Flamecore | Ore | Continues to appear in this deep zone |
Moonstone is particularly important to collect here. After defeating the Ruin Guard, players need 3 Moonstone (along with 3 Spirit Berries and 1 Prayer from Zephyria) to repair the altar and summon the Luna Deer mount. Gathering your Moonstone now saves a return trip after the boss.
Runebird Encounter
A Runebird is located north of the Serenity's Rest campsite, guarding a treasure chest. Unlike the Runebird at the Gate of Life (which was a significant challenge early in the game), this encounter is manageable for players who have advanced to this point in the Moonlit Forest. At this stage, you should have a Bow and stronger ammunition that makes the fight straightforward.
The Runebird can be avoided entirely by sprinting past it if you do not want the treasure chest it guards. However, the chest reward is worth the short fight.
Torch-Lighting Puzzle
The path from Serenity's Rest to Moonlight Meadow is blocked by a bridge or pathway that must be activated through a puzzle. The puzzle involves six unlit torches on pillars in the nearby ruins:
Locate the six unlit torches arranged around the ruins area
Equip your Bow with Fire Arrows
Shoot each of the six floating lights above the torch pillars to ignite them
Once all six torches are lit, the bridge raises and the path to Moonlight Meadow opens
Fire Arrows are required for this puzzle. Make sure you have at least 6 Fire Arrows in your inventory before attempting it. If you run short, you can craft more at the campsite worktable using the Ammo Maker (if you brought one) or by teleporting back to the surface.
Treasure Chests
Three treasure chests are documented in Serenity's Rest:
Chest | Location |
|---|---|
Chest #39 | On the wooden bridge west of the campsite |
Chest #40 | At the campsite itself |
Chest #48 | North of the campsite, near the Runebird encounter |
Chest #48 requires defeating or bypassing the Runebird to reach. The other two chests are accessible without combat.
Zone Progression
Serenity's Rest is the tenth zone in the Moonlit Forest's progression, near the end of the dungeon:
Homeward Trail
Serenity's Rest
Moonlight Meadow (Ruin Guard boss)
After solving the torch puzzle, the bridge to Moonlight Meadow opens. Moonlight Meadow is the final zone, containing the Ruin Guard boss arena and the altar where the Luna Deer mount is summoned.
Preparing for the Ruin Guard
Serenity's Rest is the last place to prepare before the final boss. Here is a checklist of what to bring:
Item | Recommended Amount | Why |
|---|---|---|
Bomb Arrows | 20-30 | Primary damage source against the Ruin Guard; aim for the head during vulnerability windows |
Standard Arrows | 50+ | Backup ammunition for sustained damage between Bomb Arrow shots |
Healing Food | 10-15 pieces | Grilled Chicken Wings, Lamb Skewers, or other HP-restoring combat food from the Exploration Club |
Moonstone | 3 | Needed to repair the altar after defeating the Ruin Guard; collect from this zone |
Spirit Berries | 3 | Also needed for the altar; found in the deeper Moonlit Forest zones |
Fire Arrows | 6+ | Required for the torch puzzle; bring extras in case you miss |
The Ruin Guard has four attack patterns: ore throwing (exposes its head weak point), spinning approach (retreat immediately), flame beam (strafe sideways while firing), and green charge vines (longest vulnerability window, fire continuously). Bomb Arrows to the head can stun it, creating a massive damage window. See the Ruin Guard article for the full combat strategy.
Tips
Repair the Moonweaver crystal before doing anything else. This is the last campsite, and dying in Moonlight Meadow without it means respawning at Homeward Trail or earlier.
Mine every Moonstone deposit you find. You need exactly 3 for the Luna Deer altar, and they are not common.
The torch puzzle requires Fire Arrows, not regular arrows. Double-check your ammo inventory before attempting it.
The Runebird north of camp is optional. If you are low on health or supplies, skip it and come back later via the Moonweaver teleport.
Consider making a surface trip after repairing the campsite to restock on ammo materials and healing food before the Ruin Guard fight. The teleporter makes this fast.
Collect Aurorite Ore if you see it. Beyond crafting uses, it is Aurelis's favorite gift, worth +15 Affection per gift.
