Technology is one of the Career categories in inZOI, offering software development positions at two game studios across Dowon and Bliss Bay. Like most careers in the game, Technology is a rabbit hole career: the Zoi leaves home and disappears during work hours rather than performing tasks on-screen. Technology careers provide competitive salaries and a connection to the Programming skill, making them appealing for Zois focused on technical pursuits.
Workplaces
Two software companies offer Technology positions, one in each city:
Workplace | City | Description |
|---|---|---|
DW Soft | Dowon | A software development studio located in Dowon. Zois work through a standard developer career ladder from junior to lead positions. |
Blue Moon Soft | Bliss Bay | A game development studio based in Bliss Bay. Follows the same developer career progression as DW Soft with identical pay and structure. |
Both workplaces are mechanically identical. The position titles, salaries, and promotion structure are the same at both companies. The only difference is the city location and work schedule.
Positions and Salaries
Each workplace has three positions arranged in a promotion hierarchy. Salaries are listed in Mung (M), the in-game currency. Position limits restrict how many Zois can hold each rank simultaneously.
DW Soft (Dowon)
Position | Salary | Position Limit |
|---|---|---|
Junior Developer | 414M | 6 |
Senior Developer | 999M | 3 |
Lead Developer | 1,845M | 1 |
Work schedule: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (3 days per week).
Blue Moon Soft (Bliss Bay)
Position | Salary | Position Limit |
|---|---|---|
Junior Developer | 414M | 6 |
Senior Developer | 999M | 3 |
Lead Developer | 1,845M | 1 |
Work schedule: 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (3 days per week).
Unlike some career paths where the two workplaces have different schedules, both Technology workplaces share the same Tuesday through Thursday schedule with identical hours.
How to Apply
To apply for a Technology career position:
Open the Smartphone by pressing P or clicking the phone icon
Navigate to the Career app
Select the Recruitment tab to browse open positions
Choose a Technology listing and submit the application
Wait for a confirmation text; if accepted, the Zoi starts on their next scheduled work day
There are no hard skill requirements to apply for the Junior Developer position. The Zoi must be at least a Young Adult (approximately age 20.5 in-game). While having a higher Programming skill does not gate the application, players have noted that Zois with higher Programming levels may see slightly faster career bar progression, though this has not been conclusively confirmed.
Programming Skill Connection
The Technology career has a thematic connection to the Programming skill. Zois can level up Programming independently by using computers at home or at public locations like libraries. Programming skill activities include writing code, debugging programs, and developing applications.
While Programming skill level is not a hard requirement for hiring or promotion in the Technology career, it complements the role thematically. Zois who pursue both the Programming skill and the Technology career create a consistent character identity. Some players have reported that higher Programming skill appears to provide a slight boost to career progress speed, but the career bar primarily fills through work attendance.
The Programming skill is also useful outside of work. At higher levels, Zois can engage in Hacking activities, develop apps, and perform other computer-based tasks that generate additional income or create social interactions.
Promotion Mechanics
Promotions in Technology careers follow the same system used by all rabbit hole careers. Each position has a career progress bar that fills through regular attendance.
Mechanic | Details |
|---|---|
Career Bar | A progress meter that fills each time the Zoi completes a work day. Reaching 100% makes the Zoi eligible for promotion. |
Attendance Required | Approximately 8 to 10 working days (roughly 3 to 4 in-game weeks) to fill the bar from empty. |
Vacancy Requirement | A position must be open at the next rank. With only 3 Senior Developer slots and 1 Lead Developer slot, bottlenecks can occur. |
Automatic Promotion | When the bar is full and a vacancy exists, the Zoi is promoted automatically. No additional task or interview is required. |
No Demotion | Zois cannot be demoted. They stay at their current position or advance to the next one. |
The Lead Developer position is particularly competitive with only one slot per company. If an NPC or another playable Zoi holds the slot, the player's Zoi must wait for that person to quit, retire, or get terminated before a promotion becomes available.
Career Opportunity Cards
The v0.4.0 update (October 30, 2025) introduced 144 career opportunity cards across all career paths. For Technology careers, these events may involve choices like staying late to fix a critical bug, deciding how to handle a disagreement about code architecture, or choosing between two competing project approaches. Each choice can affect the Zoi's mood, workplace relationships, or career progress bar speed.
Work Day Routine
As a rabbit hole career, the Zoi disappears from the game world during work hours. The daily routine follows this pattern:
A reminder notification appears shortly before the shift starts
The Zoi automatically heads to work (or you can manually queue "Go to Work")
The Zoi disappears from the world for the duration of the shift (9 AM to 6 PM)
At shift end, the Zoi reappears at or near the workplace
Salary is deposited into household funds after each completed work day
Players cannot control or observe the Zoi during work hours. This distinguishes rabbit hole careers from Active Careers, where the player accompanies the Zoi to the workplace and directs their tasks.
Attendance and Termination
Missing a scheduled work day counts as an unexcused absence. After 3 unexcused absences, the Zoi is automatically terminated. The absence counter resets when the Zoi attends a work day. Zois can also voluntarily quit at any time through the Career section of the Smartphone, but quitting resets career progress entirely.
Retirement
Zois face mandatory retirement upon reaching the Senior age stage. At this point, they are removed from their Technology career and cannot hold any job. No pension system exists in the game, so households should prepare financially by building savings, training a second earner, or establishing a Business before the primary earner reaches Senior age.
Salary Comparison
Technology salaries start slightly higher than Corporate and Finance at the entry level (414M vs 378M), but the top-tier salary is slightly lower (1,845M vs 1,881M). The table below compares top-tier salaries across career paths:
Career | Top Position | Top Salary |
|---|---|---|
Medical | Chief of Medicine | 2,250M |
Public Safety | Police Chief | 2,070M |
Education and Academic | Distinguished Professor | 1,920M |
Corporate and Finance | Director / Portfolio Manager | 1,881M |
Technology | Lead Developer | 1,845M |
Technology careers offer a solid middle-ground income. The 3-day work week leaves 4 free days for skill building, social activities, or managing a side Business.
Tips
Build Programming on free days: Use the 4 days off per week to level up the Programming skill at home. This creates a consistent tech-focused character and unlocks additional computer-based activities
Both companies are identical: Choose based on which city your Zoi lives in to minimize commute time. There is no gameplay advantage to picking one company over the other
Monitor the Lead Developer slot: If you are stuck at Senior Developer with a full career bar, check whether the Lead Developer slot is occupied. You may need to wait for the current Lead to retire or quit
Pair with Business ownership: The 3-day work week leaves plenty of time to run a Business for supplemental income
Watch for career opportunity cards: The choices you make on opportunity cards can speed up or slow down your career progress. Read the options carefully before deciding
Set work day alarms: Since Technology careers run Tuesday through Thursday, it is easy to lose track. Use the in-game calendar or set manual reminders to ensure your Zoi does not miss a shift
