Booboo
Booboo is a giant panda who lives at the Panda House east of Cloudrest Lake in Starsand Island. This guide covers the full 5-stage Fresh Bamboo Shoots feeding quest chain with exact quantities (130 total), reward chests with bamboo furniture blueprints, Fresh Bamboo Shoot locations, and why Booboo cannot be adopted.
Booboo
Booboo is a giant panda who lives at the Panda House, located east of Cloudrest Lake in Starsand Island. She lives alongside two other pandas named Grumpy and Bao. Unlike the adoptable pets found around the island, Booboo cannot be taken home. Instead, she has a unique 5-stage feeding quest chain that rewards bamboo-themed crafting blueprints and eventually unlocks petting and playing interactions at max friendship.
Location
The Panda House is situated east of Cloudrest Lake in the bamboo forest area. Cloudrest Lake becomes accessible after reaching the Home Builder rank in the Island Life progression system (requires 6 farm expansions). The Panda House is a short walk from the Cloudrest Lake homestead area, surrounded by bamboo groves and rolling hills.
Fresh Bamboo Shoots Quest Chain
Booboo's primary interaction is a 5-stage feeding quest that uses Fresh Bamboo Shoots as the delivery item. To trigger the feeding interaction, approach Booboo while carrying Fresh Bamboo Shoots in your inventory. She reacts to the scent and initiates a feeding dialogue. Each completed stage rewards a treasure chest containing bamboo-themed crafting blueprints.
Feeding Stages
The quest escalates with each stage, requiring more bamboo shoots as Booboo's appetite grows:
Stage | Bamboo Shoots Required | Running Total |
|---|---|---|
1st Feeding | 15 | 15 |
2nd Feeding | 25 | 40 |
3rd Feeding | 25 | 65 |
4th Feeding | 30 | 95 |
5th Feeding | 35 | 130 |
You need 130 Fresh Bamboo Shoots total to complete the entire quest chain. Since Fresh Bamboo Shoots respawn daily and the spawn area around the Panda House is relatively dense, you can gather 10 to 20 per visit depending on how thoroughly you search. Plan on about a week of daily collecting to finish all five stages if you are efficient.
Rewards
Each completed feeding stage awards a treasure chest containing bamboo furniture blueprints. The confirmed rewards from the first chest include:
Bamboo Chair blueprint
Vertical Hanging Scroll blueprint
Later stages reward additional bamboo-themed furniture and crafting recipes. These are decorative items for your homestead that fit the Cloudrest Lake aesthetic. The full reward list for stages 2 through 5 is still being documented by the community, as the game is in Early Access.
Max Friendship
After completing all 5 feeding stages, Booboo reaches max friendship. At this point, the adoption dialogue does not appear. Booboo stays permanently at the Panda House with Grumpy and Bao. However, new interactions become available: you can pet Booboo and play with her whenever you visit. These interactions do not cost any items.
Where to Find Fresh Bamboo Shoots
Fresh Bamboo Shoots spawn in the grass around the Panda House and the eastern side of Cloudrest Lake. They appear as sparkles on the ground and blend in with the surrounding grass because they are a similar shade of green. Look for the glinting sparkle effect rather than the item model itself.
Specific spawn locations:
The grassy areas on the eastern shore of Cloudrest Lake
Around and directly adjacent to the Panda House building
On the surrounding hills near the Panda House, especially the slopes leading up from the lake
Fresh Bamboo Shoots respawn every day, so visit the area on a regular loop. Each shoot can also be sold for 5 coins, but selling them is not recommended when you still have feeding stages to complete. Stockpile them until you finish the quest chain.
Why Booboo Cannot Be Adopted
Starsand Island has 10 adoptable pets (cats, dogs, a capybara, a fox, and a squirrel among others) that can be brought to your homestead. Booboo is not one of them. The game treats Booboo as a fixed NPC tied to the Panda House location rather than a standard pet. This is likely a deliberate design choice: Booboo's quest chain, her companions Grumpy and Bao, and the Panda House itself form a mini-destination that gives players a reason to visit Cloudrest Lake regularly. If Booboo could be adopted, the Panda House would lose its main draw.
Grumpy and Bao
Grumpy and Bao are the two other pandas who live at the Panda House alongside Booboo. They do not have their own quest chains or feeding mechanics, but they can be observed performing various panda activities around the enclosure, including eating bamboo, rolling around, and sleeping in different poses. Together with Booboo, they make the Panda House one of the most scenic spots on the island for Photo Mode screenshots.
Tips
Collect Fresh Bamboo Shoots every time you visit Cloudrest Lake. Even if you are not ready for the next feeding stage, stockpiling shoots saves trips later.
Look for sparkles, not the item model. The shoots blend into the grass and are easy to walk past without noticing.
Do not sell Fresh Bamboo Shoots until you have completed all 5 feeding stages. The 5-coin sell price is not worth delaying the quest chain.
The Panda House area also has unique bugs. Bring your Bug Net when visiting to catch insects you might not find elsewhere.
After reaching max friendship, revisit Booboo for the petting and playing interactions. There is no daily limit on these.
The bamboo furniture blueprints from the treasure chests are exclusive to this quest chain. You cannot obtain them from any shop or other NPC.
If you are trying to finish the quest quickly, focus your daily loop on the eastern shore of Cloudrest Lake and the hills around the Panda House. A thorough sweep of both areas should yield 10 to 20 shoots per day.
