Pokemon Types
Pokemon types exist in Pokopia, but they function very differently from the mainline Pokemon games. Since Pokopia has no combat system, types do not determine attack effectiveness, weaknesses, or resistances. Instead, a Pokemon's type in Pokopia determines three things: its climate and habitat preferences, the specialty tasks it can perform, and which moves Ditto can learn by transforming into it.
Types and Climate Preferences
The most important role of types in Pokopia is determining where Pokemon are comfortable living. Each Pokemon has specific climate preferences tied to its type, particularly around humidity and temperature. Placing Pokemon in environments that match their type preferences raises their comfort level, while mismatched environments lower it.

This creates a genuine urban planning challenge. Players need to zone their settlement so that compatible types live near each other while incompatible types (like Fire and Water) are separated. Getting this right raises comfort across the board, which directly feeds into the area's Environment Level.
Types and Specialties
A Pokemon's type strongly influences what specialty tasks it can perform. There are 31 specialties in Pokopia, and many of them align with type identity. Types determine what practical roles Pokemon fill in your settlement's economy and infrastructure.

Types and Ditto's Moves
When Ditto transforms into a Pokemon, it gains access to that species' signature move. The type of move Ditto learns corresponds to the Pokemon's type:
Water Gun (from Squirtle): Revitalizes dried ground, waters crops, cleans sludge.
Leafage (from Bulbasaur): Creates grass patches and vegetation for habitats.
Cut (from Scyther): Chops trees for Small Logs.
Rock Smash (from Hitmonchan): Breaks rocks for ore and reveals hidden items.
Surf (from Lapras): Cross bodies of water.
Glide (from Dragonite): Glide through the air from elevated positions.
Each of Ditto's moves can be powered up by eating cooked meals made from specific recipes. Salad powers up Leafage, bread powers up Cut, soup powers up Water Gun, and hamburger steaks power up Rock Smash.
No Type Chart
Unlike every mainline Pokemon game, Pokopia has no type effectiveness chart, no super-effective or not-very-effective damage, and no STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus). Since there are no battles at all, these traditional type mechanics simply do not apply. A Fire-type Pokemon is not "weak" to Water in any gameplay sense; it just prefers a different climate zone.
Pokemon do not evolve in Pokopia either. Evolved forms like Charizard exist as separate species with their own Pokedex entries and habitats. A Charmander does not grow into Charmeleon; instead, Charmeleon and Charizard are encountered independently in the wild through more advanced habitats.
Tips for Type Management
Plan your settlement layout with type zoning in mind. Keep Fire-type housing on one side and Water/Grass-type housing on the other to prevent comfort conflicts.
Use Slowpoke's Yawn specialty to check an area's humidity level before placing type-sensitive Pokemon there.
Set up Rain Dance Sites and Sunny Day Sites (using Castform Weather Charms) to control weather and humidity in specific zones.
Recruit at least one Pokemon of each major type early on to ensure you have access to all essential specialties for crafting, building, and resource processing.
Electric-type Pokemon are the most flexible for placement since they adapt well to most environments. Prioritize them for areas where zoning is tight.
