Overview
DJ Rotom is one of the seven Special Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia. It is a Rotom that has possessed a mini stereo, taking on the unique Stereo Rotom form. This is the first and only appearance of the Stereo Rotom form in the Pokemon franchise. DJ Rotom holds the exclusive DJ specialty, which lets players change the background music by building a playlist from CDs found during exploration.
Stereo Rotom Form
Rotom is well known for possessing household appliances to change its form and typing. Previous forms include Heat Rotom (microwave oven), Wash Rotom (washing machine), Frost Rotom (refrigerator), Fan Rotom (electric fan), and Mow Rotom (lawn mower). In Pokopia, Rotom inhabits a mini stereo, creating the brand-new Stereo Rotom form. This form is Electric/Normal type and is exclusive to Pokemon Pokopia.

Location
DJ Rotom is found in Rocky Ridges, the mountainous area. Players discover it in a mine shaft during their exploration of the underground sections, where it has set up its stereo and is already spinning music in the darkness. After befriending DJ Rotom, it can be placed in a settlement like other Special Pokemon.
Habitat
DJ Rotom's habitat recipe is the Music and Magazines habitat. Building this habitat in your settlement gives DJ Rotom a proper home and makes it available for its DJ specialty. Like all Special Pokemon habitats, it appears in the Habitat Dex and requires specific furniture items to complete.
DJ Specialty
DJ Rotom possesses the exclusive DJ specialty. When players collect CDs scattered throughout the world, they can give these CDs to DJ Rotom to build a custom playlist.
Specialty | Effect | Exclusive To |
|---|---|---|
DJ | Plays music from collected CDs, changing the area's background music | DJ Rotom |
Playlist System
DJ Rotom lets you set up a playlist of up to 5 CDs at a time. The selected tracks play on rotation in your settlement, replacing the default background music. You can swap CDs in and out of the playlist at any time by interacting with DJ Rotom. If you remove all CDs from the playlist, the area reverts to its default soundtrack.
CD Collection
CDs are collectible items found throughout Pokemon Pokopia. There are roughly 40 CDs in the game, spanning tracks from across the Pokemon franchise's history. CDs can be discovered in treasure blocks, earned from completing requests, found on Dream Islands, and purchased from the PC Shop.

The CD collection draws from iconic music across the Pokemon series. Some of the tracks players have found include:

This is not a complete list. Additional CDs can be found on Dream Islands and through special events. Collecting all CDs and delivering them to DJ Rotom lets players fully customize the music in their settlements.
Tangrowth Warning
Important: Do not give CDs to Tangrowth. If you hand a CD to Tangrowth (which has the Vine Grab specialty), it will pocket the CD and will not return it. This is a known interaction that catches many players off guard. Always make sure you are interacting with DJ Rotom specifically when managing your music collection.
Hype Specialty Interaction
When DJ Rotom plays music, all Pokemon with the Hype specialty in the area will begin dancing. There are 23 Pokemon with the Hype specialty in Pokopia, and each one has its own dance animation. This creates a lively atmosphere in settlements and is a popular feature for players who enjoy watching their Pokemon react to the music.
The mood of nearby Pokemon can also be affected by the music playing. Some CDs have an upbeat tone that boosts the general mood in the settlement, which ties into the "Time to Party!" quest where players need to get the settlement's mood to a certain level.
Name Origin
The English name "DJ Rotom" straightforwardly combines "DJ" (disc jockey) with "Rotom." The Japanese and international names reflect the energetic, music-loving personality of this character.
Language | Name | Origin |

Japanese | Age Rotom | From "age" (slang for hyped/excited) + Rotom |
