Overview
Appraise is a Pokemon Pokopia specialty unique to Professor Tangrowth. Pokemon with the Appraise specialty can examine Lost Relics that you dig up across the five regions and identify exactly what item is hidden inside. Until a relic is appraised, it remains unknown and unusable.
Professor Tangrowth is the only Pokemon with this specialty in the entire Pokedex. The ability is tied directly to his story role as the mentor figure who teaches Ditto how to rebuild the world.

Exclusive. Encountered in the starting area of Withered Wasteland. |
How Appraise Works
Find a buried item using a Pokemon with the Search specialty and the Dowsing Machine. Rock Smash the spot to dig up a Lost Relic.
Lost Relics come in three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. All three require appraisal before use.
Bring the unappraised relic to Professor Tangrowth in Withered Wasteland.
Talk to him and select Appraise. He inspects the relic and reveals what lies inside.
The item becomes available in your inventory. Common finds include crafting materials, furniture pieces, musical CDs, and occasionally rare tools like the Fishing Rod.
Relic Appraisal Outcomes
Relic Size | Typical Yields |
|---|---|
Small Lost Relic | Common materials like Stone, Lumber, Leaf, and low-tier furniture |
Medium Lost Relic | Intermediate furniture, music CDs, and mid-tier crafting materials |
Large Lost Relic | Rare furniture, exclusive decorations, and occasional tools like Fishing Rods or high-value trade items |
Some relics are trapped and will detonate when dug up. Use Water Gun on a trapped relic before picking it up to safely defuse it.
Collect Specialty Interaction
After a relic has been appraised by Professor Tangrowth, Gimmighoul (Collect specialty) can trade the appraised relic for unique pieces of furniture. This means appraisal is the middle step in a three-specialty pipeline:
Search finds buried Lost Relics in the ground
Appraise identifies what is inside the relic
Collect (Gimmighoul) accepts appraised relics and exchanges them for exclusive furniture
Tips
Save all Large Lost Relics for appraisal. The rare-tool drop chance (such as Fishing Rods) is highest on Large relics.
Appraisal is free and has no daily limit. Bring stacks of relics to Professor Tangrowth at once to save travel time.
Store appraised relics you plan to trade to Gimmighoul rather than crafting or using their contents immediately. Some recipes only work with the raw appraised relic, not the item inside.
Sunday has a higher drop rate for Lost Relic glow spots across all regions. Use Sundays to stockpile relics for mass appraisal on other days.
