Overview
Tangrowth is a Grass-type Pokemon in Pokemon Pokopia, classified as the Vine Pokemon (Dex #041). Tangrowth appears in the Professor's Treasure Trove habitat in Withered Wasteland. The most notable Tangrowth in the game is Professor Tangrowth, the primary guide and first Pokemon the player encounters. Professor Tangrowth carries the exclusive Appraise specialty, which is used to identify Lost Relics into furniture throughout the game.
Habitat
Tangrowth lives in the Professor's Treasure Trove habitat (#043). This habitat requires:
Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Professor's Treasure Trove | 1 | A unique furniture piece |
Lost Relic (Large) | 4 | Found by using Rock Smash on glowing blocks |
Bed (any) | 1 | Any bed type works |
Tangrowth appears as a Common visitor at this habitat. The habitat is themed around Professor Tangrowth's love for collecting and studying relics.
Location
Tangrowth is found in Withered Wasteland. Professor Tangrowth is present from the very beginning of the game, greeting Ditto when it first awakens from the starting cave. He remains a constant presence throughout the story, guiding the player across all regions.
Professor Tangrowth
For the full article on the game's main NPC, see Professor Tangrowth.
Professor Tangrowth is visually distinct from a standard Tangrowth. The vines on the top half of his body are white, giving him a gray-haired, elderly appearance. He wears broken Wise Glasses under his eyes (a memento from the human Professor he once lived with), carries a walking stick, and has a TM disc stuck to one of his vines. Nintendo of America's official description states: "Professor Tangrowth dons a pair of broken glasses and what appears to be a CD. They teach the basics of living in town!"
Specialty: Appraise
Professor Tangrowth has the Appraise specialty. This is an exclusive specialty that only Professor Tangrowth possesses. Appraise allows him to identify Lost Relics into furniture items. When players find Lost Relics through Rock Smash and exploration, they bring the relics to Professor Tangrowth for appraisal. The appraised items can then be traded to Gimmighoul for rare rewards, or kept and placed as decorative furniture.

"When this Pokemon was still a Tangela, it lived with a human professor. It now wears that professor's favorite pair of glasses on its chest."
Backstory
Before the humans disappeared from the Kanto region, Tangrowth was a Tangela living with a human Pokemon Professor. The young Tangela occasionally played with the Professor's grandchild and interacted with visiting Pokemon Trainers, developing a deep interest in human tools and technology. When the climate crisis struck and humanity evacuated the planet through the Pokemon Conservation Project, Tangela avoided being placed in digital storage. He kept the Professor's broken glasses and eventually evolved into Tangrowth, adopting the role of a professor himself and becoming the sole caretaker of the withered world.
