Overview
The Kuku Rocket Pack (commonly called the jetpack) is a craftable traversal device in Crimson Desert that grants Oongka powered flight. Unlike the passive gliding offered by the Crow's Wing, the Kuku Rocket Pack provides sustained horizontal and vertical movement, making it one of the fastest ways to travel across Pywel. The pack is essential for reaching floating islands, high-altitude areas, and shortcuts that no other traversal method can access.
The Kuku Rocket Pack is exclusively available to Oongka and equips in her Tools slot. It cannot be used by Kliff or other party members. Its flight functions similarly to Kliff's Axiom-based gliding abilities, providing both horizontal glide and air movement, but with significantly greater speed and altitude control.
How to Unlock the Kuku Rocket Pack
Unlocking the Kuku Rocket Pack is a multi-step process that spans several chapters. The questline begins with the Witch of Wisdom faction and continues through a crafting chain at Grimnir's workshop. You must have sufficient main story progression (at least Chapter 8) before all steps become available. Note that this item is missable: if you progress too far into the main story without completing the faction quest chain, you may lose the opportunity to acquire it during your playthrough.
Step 1: Complete the Sanctum of Penitence
The first blueprint (Blueprint I: Kuku Pack) is earned by completing the Sanctum of Penitence, a dungeon tied to the Witch of Wisdom faction quest line. This is a puzzle-focused dungeon that requires you to cleanse the sanctum by repairing kilns and solving a block-placement puzzle.
Enter the Sanctum of Penitence and clear out the enemies inside.
Repair the Kiln at the center of the sanctum.
Locate the floating block on the second floor. From the kiln, turn around and head up to the upper section. Enter the doorway and look for a block wedged in a crack in the wall.
Use Axiom Force to grab the block and bring it down to the kiln area.
Carry the block to the back left tower. Use the D-pad to rotate it into the correct orientation. When you are close to the correct position, leaves will appear as a visual cue.
Climb the tower and use Force Push to place the block into its socket.
After completing the puzzle, a cutscene triggers with the Witch of Wisdom, and you receive the Kuku Pack Blueprint as a reward.
Step 2: Receive the Letter from Grimnir
Once the Kuku Pack blueprint is in hand and you have reached Pailune as a hub city (unlocked around Chapter 8), Grimnir's assistant will approach you on the south side of the city with a document titled Letter from Grimnir. This letter explains that Grimnir has made a breakthrough discovery and wants you to return to his workshop.
Important: You must open your inventory, find the Letter from Grimnir in your Key Items, and select Examine. Simply receiving the letter is not enough. The crafting recipe for the Kuku Rocket Pack will not appear in your Knowledge tab until you read and examine the letter. This registers Blueprint II: Kuku Rocket Pack in your crafting menu.
Step 3: Craft the Kuku Pack (Base Version)
Travel to the Kilnden Workshop, located west of the Abyss Nexus. Speak to Grimnir at his Kuku Shop. The base Kuku Pack is the prerequisite component for the Rocket Pack upgrade.
Kuku Pack Materials
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
1 | Steal from a roaming merchant: equip a Mask, approach the merchant, and press the lantern button to scare them into dropping the pack. Masks can be purchased from the Back Alley Shop on the eastern road near Hernand. Alternatively, Peddler's Packs occasionally appear at Back Alley Shops and Street Vendors. | |
1 | The Kuku Iron Pot is obtained during Chapter 4 as part of the Mysterious Pot main quest at Kilnden Workshop. Additional pots can be acquired by sending Greymane recruits on dispatch missions to Kilnden. |
Step 4: Craft the Kuku Rocket Pack
With the base Kuku Pack in hand and Blueprint II unlocked, return to Grimnir at the Kilnden Workshop to craft the Kuku Rocket Pack. You will need the following additional materials.
Kuku Rocket Pack Materials
Material | Quantity | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|
1 | Crafted in Step 3 above | |
10 | Mined from ore deposits on cliffsides. Iron deposits appear as darker, blackish rock formations. Also available from Equipment Shops and Street Vendors. | |
10 | Mined from ore deposits on cliffsides. Copper deposits have a distinctive teal coloration that makes them easy to spot. Also purchasable from merchants. | |
5 | Dropped by mechanical enemies and Abyss enemies, especially in Demeniss. Also found in regional treasure chests and occasionally sold by traveling merchants. Can be looted by breaking environmental objects (pots, barrels, crates) in high-level areas. | |
3 | Obtained by defeating pirates in Demeniss or by breaking pots and environmental objects around settlements. Note that breaking objects in towns counts as a crime; run out of the red circle to avoid accumulating a bounty. |
Flight Mechanics
The Kuku Rocket Pack provides powered flight rather than passive gliding. Once equipped on Oongka and activated, it grants both horizontal and vertical movement through the air. You can hold the flight button to gain speed, though faster flight drains stamina more quickly.
Flight runs entirely on stamina. The pack remains active for as long as Oongka has stamina remaining. The moment stamina hits zero, Oongka drops immediately with no hover or glide cushion. There is no separate fuel gauge; the stamina bar is the only limiting factor.
To extend flight time, consume stamina-restoring food while airborne. This allows you to cover significantly greater distances in a single flight. The higher your starting elevation, the more ground you can cover before stamina runs out, since altitude provides free downward momentum.
Stamina Optimization
Abyss Artifacts: The most impactful upgrade for jetpack use. Collecting Abyss Artifacts permanently increases your total stamina pool, directly extending how long Oongka can fly.
Stamina Food: Cook and carry stamina-restoring meals. These can be consumed mid-flight to refill the stamina bar, effectively doubling or tripling your flight range.
Altitude Advantage: Launch from the highest point possible. The pack covers both horizontal and vertical distance simultaneously, so starting high gives you free distance before stamina begins draining heavily.
Sprint Sparingly: Holding the flight button increases speed but also increases stamina drain. Use bursts of speed rather than constant sprinting to balance speed with endurance.
Skill Upgrades
Oongka's movement while using the Kuku Rocket Pack can be improved through her skill tree. Upgrades enhance air mobility, turning speed, and overall flight efficiency. A vertical flight skill that grants better altitude gain can be learned through the Watch and Learn system, where observing certain enemies perform aerial maneuvers triggers a slow-motion prompt that teaches Oongka the ability without spending an Abyss Artifact.
Comparison with Other Traversal Methods

Availability | Granted early in the main story | Requires Chapter 8+ progression and Witch of Wisdom faction quest completion |
Drains stamina while airborne; wings disappear at zero stamina | Drains stamina continuously; Oongka drops immediately at zero stamina | |
Used with Crow's Wing equipment | Functions in all armor types, including heavy armor | |
Missable | No | Yes; must complete faction quest before progressing too far |
Context Within Traversal Options
Pearl Abyss designed Crimson Desert around layered mobility. Players accumulate traversal tools over the course of the game: climbing, grappling, gliding with the Crow's Wing, riding horses, taming exotic mounts, piloting the mech mount, and crafting the Kuku Rocket Pack. Each tool personalizes how players approach exploration and environmental puzzle-solving across Pywel's varied terrain.
The Kuku Rocket Pack fills a specific niche as Oongka's primary air traversal method. While Kliff relies on the Crow's Wing for gliding and Axiom Force for aerial combat maneuvers, Oongka's rocket pack gives her comparable (and often superior) aerial mobility. This makes character switching strategically valuable: players can swap to Oongka for rapid vertical travel and then switch back to Kliff for ground combat.
Exploration Uses
Floating Islands: The Kuku Rocket Pack is the most reliable method for reaching floating islands scattered across Pywel. These islands often contain rare resources, Abyss Cores, and hidden treasure chests.
Vertical Shortcuts: The cliffs around Pailune and the highland regions become trivial to navigate with the rocket pack, saving significant travel time compared to climbing.
Resource Gathering: Ore deposits on cliffsides that are difficult to reach on foot become easily accessible with powered flight.
Combat Evasion: In open-world encounters, launching into the air provides a quick escape route when overwhelmed by enemies.
Tips
Do not ignore the Witch of Wisdom faction quests. The Kuku Rocket Pack is missable if you advance the main story too far without completing the prerequisite chain.
Stock up on Cogwheels and Small Batteries before heading to Grimnir. The easiest farming spot for both is defeating pirates in Demeniss.
Always examine the Letter from Grimnir in your Key Items after receiving it. Without examining the letter, the Kuku Rocket Pack blueprint will not register.
Invest in Abyss Artifacts that increase your stamina pool. Every point of extra stamina directly translates to longer flight time.
Carry stamina food at all times when using the rocket pack. Being able to eat mid-flight turns short hops into cross-map journeys.
Breaking pots in settlements for Cogwheels and Small Batteries counts as a crime. Run out of the red detection circle quickly to avoid a bounty.
For mining Iron Ore and Copper Ore, look for deposits on cliffsides near camps. Copper has a teal color and Iron appears as darker, almost black rock.
