Overview
The Sanctum of Penitence is one of four Sanctums scattered across the continent of Pywel in Crimson Desert. Like all Sanctums, it is described as a place imbued with spiritual power, reportedly created in the ancient past to restore the world and its providence. The Antumbra revere Sanctums as sacred ground because of the immense power they hold.
The Sanctum of Penitence is associated with the Seventh Edict, which declares: "Should the thought of abandoning your faith arise, repent at once and purify your heart."
The Sanctum of Penitence is one of three Sanctums recommended for early completion before accepting the Witch of Wisdom quest, as it can be cleansed as soon as the Sanctum system is unlocked.
Location
The Sanctum of Penitence is located in the Hernand region. The ruins are set among rocky terrain with several connected rooms and a central main structure. An Abyss Nexus nearby provides a fast travel point for reaching the area.
Access
Sanctums become accessible after Elowen, the Witch of Wisdom, is encountered during Chapter 5 of the main story. Once unlocked, she asks Kliff to cleanse four sanctums in the Hernand region. Players can track any Sanctum by setting a waypoint through their quest journal.
Enemies
Antumbra worshippers guard the Sanctum of Penitence. Upon arrival, players must defeat all enemies occupying the ruins until the green liberation bar is emptied. The enemies are standard Antumbra foot soldiers and do not include a dedicated boss fight.
Some enemies at this sanctum are airborne, making standard melee attacks awkward. Using the Crowcaller sword is recommended for these encounters, as its projectiles home in on flying targets.
Puzzle Walkthrough
The Sanctum of Penitence puzzle involves recovering a missing cube from a broken room and restoring a damaged pillar using the standard Sanctum restoration mechanics.
Step 1: Defeat All Enemies
Clear the area of all Antumbra worshippers. Use your attack skills or summon companions to speed up the process. The puzzle components only become interactive after the liberation bar is emptied.
Step 2: Find the Missing Cube
Head to the south side of the Sanctum. Head into the ruins until you come across a staircase with broken flooring. The missing power cube (Fusion Reactor Core) is embedded in a pile of rubble below. Use Axiom Force to grab the cube and seal it inside the Kuku Pot for transport.
Step 3: Restore the Broken Pillar
Carry the cube to the broken pillar at the main Sanctum structure. Unseal it from the Kuku Pot and place it at the base of the damaged pillar. Use a jumping Force Palm to push it into position. Once the cube is secured and the pillar is restored, the Sanctum of Penitence is cleansed.
Hidden Treasure
The Sanctum of Penitence contains a hidden treasure chest tucked beneath a collapsible section of flooring. Unlike the other Sanctums where you need to interact with a specific object or burn through vines, this treasure requires you to stand on the correct spot and let the floor give way.
How to Find It
Look for the section of the ruins that has four small columns and overlooks the main puzzle area. Walk toward the wall at the very front of this section. The floor near the wall is structurally weak and will collapse when you stand on it, dropping you into a hidden chamber below.
If you are unsure which area has the four columns, face the main puzzle structure from the elevated walkways and look for the viewing platform with the small columnar supports on either side. The breakable floor is at the forward edge of this platform, closest to the wall.
Reward: Blackwing Leather Gloves
The treasure chest in the secret chamber contains the Blackwing Leather Gloves, part of the Crowcaller's Blackwing armor set. These gloves offer a strong mix of offensive stats and passive bonuses:

The level 2 critical rate bonus is unusually high for a single equipment piece at this stage of the game. Combined with the passive health regeneration, these gloves provide both sustained survivability and increased burst damage potential during combat encounters.
Rewards
Cleansing the Sanctum of Penitence rewards Kuku Pack blueprint. A separate hidden treasure chest in the ruins contains the Blackwing Leather Gloves (see the Hidden Treasure section above for location and full stats). Completing all four of Elowen's sanctums (along with the sanctums assigned by the other three witches) fulfills the full cleansing quest and provides access to powerful Abyss-related equipment and lore rewards.
After cleansing, Elowen visits the player at the Sanctum and discusses the Seventh Edict's warning about abandoning faith, providing additional context for the Antumbra's belief system.
Completion
The Sanctum of Penitence was cleansed.

The Sanctum of Penitence is only the first of two sanctum prerequisites for the Insect Gatherer variant. After this cleanse, unlock the Witch of Eliza Leah and clear the Sanctum of Oblation to receive the variant blueprint.
