Overview
Horses in Crimson Desert come in multiple breeds, each with different appearances and stat distributions. While all horses share the same core mechanics for taming, leveling, and equipment, the breed determines the horse's visual appearance, base stat tendencies, and where it can be found in the wild. There are five known regular horse breeds, plus three legendary horses that exist as unique, named individuals.
Beyond the regular breeds, the game features three legendary horses with fixed stat profiles: Royler (the legendary white horse), Rokade (the legendary black horse), and Camora (the legendary red horse). These legendary horses have significantly higher stats than any regular wild horse and are each found in specific locations.
Regular Horse Breeds
The five regular horse breeds are encountered throughout the world of Pywel. Each horse within a breed has randomized stats, so two horses of the same breed may have different speed, stamina, and strength values. The breeds are:
Breed | Description |
|---|---|
Hespia | The most common breed, given as the player's starter mount after the prologue. Found across multiple regions. |
Priden | A sturdy breed found in various regions of Pywel. One of the four breeds required for the Harmonious Hooves challenge. |
Brianto | A horse breed associated with the Damiane character as a default mount, unlocked during Chapter 3. Also found in the wild. |
Numont | A horse breed found roaming the wilderness of Pywel. Required for the Harmonious Hooves challenge. |
Elantrima | A horse breed encountered in various locations. Required for the Harmonious Hooves challenge. |
Each wild horse has randomized stats within its breed, so taming multiple horses and comparing their stats at a stable is recommended. You can check any captured horse's stats after taming to decide whether to keep it or release it back into the wild.
Legendary Horses
The three legendary horses are unique named mounts with fixed stat profiles far exceeding regular horses. Each is found in a specific location:
Horse | Title | Location | Specialty |
|---|---|---|---|
Legendary White Horse | Silver Wolf Mountain, Pailune | Best stamina and speed of all legendary horses | |
Legendary Black Horse | Spire of Insight, Steel Mountains | Highest health; war horse built for combat durability | |
Legendary Red Horse | Redtree Forest, Tashkalp | Highest attack and defense of any horse |
Legendary horses are significantly harder to tame than regular wild horses. You need at least 6 Stamina attribute points to have a realistic chance of completing the taming minigame before getting thrown off. Save before each attempt.
Harmonious Hooves Challenges
The Harmonious Hooves challenge chain tests your mastery of horse-related activities. The challenges include:
Challenge | Requirement |
|---|---|
Harmonious Hooves 1 | Tame 2 wild horses |
Harmonious Hooves 2 | Hunt 5 animals within 5 minutes while riding a horse |
Harmonious Hooves 3 | Defeat 20 enemies within 5 minutes without stopping while mounted |
Harmonious Hooves 7 | Ride each of the four breeds (Priden, Brianto, Numont, Elantrima) for over 100 meters |
The Harmonious Hooves 7 challenge specifically requires riding all four named breeds, so you will need to find and tame at least one horse of each breed. You can identify a horse's breed after taming it by checking its details in the stable management menu.
Horse Stats
All horses, regardless of breed, have the following core stats:
Stat | Effect |
|---|---|
Speed | Affects gallop pace and maximum sprint speed |
Stamina | Determines how long the horse can sprint before fatigue |
Strength | Affects combat capability while mounted |
Health | How much damage the horse can take before being injured |
Defense | Reduces incoming damage to the horse |
Acceleration | How quickly the horse reaches top speed |
Handling | Responsiveness during turns and maneuvers |
Jump Power | Height and distance of horse jumps |
Regular horses have randomized stats within breed-specific ranges. Horses level up the more you ride them, improving all stats over time. You can also enhance performance through horse equipment (Champron, Barding, Saddle, Stirrups) and by feeding them to maintain health.
Tips
Tame multiple horses and compare their stats at a stable. Even within the same breed, individual horses can vary significantly.
A well-leveled starter horse can compete with freshly tamed wild horses with higher base stats, so do not neglect leveling.
For the Harmonious Hooves 7 challenge, you need Priden, Brianto, Numont, and Elantrima specifically. Hespia is not required for this challenge.
Legendary horses are always worth taming. Their stats far exceed regular breeds, and each one excels in a different area.
You can buy horses directly from stable keepers if you prefer not to tame wild ones. The stable northwest of Hernand is one of the first you can access.
