Overview
Hespia is the first mount obtained in Crimson Desert. This horse is automatically granted to Kliff shortly after completing the prologue, during the Unknown Space main quest. Hespia serves as the player's trusty companion for the early portions of the game and remains a viable mount throughout the entire adventure thanks to the horse leveling system.
While Hespia does not have the raw stats of the legendary horses like Royler, Rokade, or Camora, it can be leveled up through regular riding. The more you ride Hespia, the more its defense, speed, stamina, and other attributes improve, making it a solid long-term mount for players who invest time in their starter horse.
How to Obtain
Hespia is obtained during the Unknown Space quest, which takes place shortly after the prologue. Sebastian offers Kliff a wild horse capture during this sequence, and the horse you receive becomes Hespia. This is a scripted event and cannot be missed. After obtaining Hespia, you can summon it at any time by holding Down on the D-Pad and selecting the horse from the mount wheel.
Stats and Leveling
Hespia's initial stats are randomized like all wild horses in Crimson Desert. Each horse has three core stats:
Stat | Effect |
|---|---|
Speed | Affects gallop pace and maximum sprint speed |
Stamina | Determines how long the horse can sprint before becoming fatigued |
Strength | Affects combat capability while mounted, including back kick damage |
Horses level up the more you ride them. As Hespia gains levels, its defense, speed, stamina, and other attributes all improve. This means that a well-leveled Hespia can outperform many wild horses you encounter later in the game.
Trust Level
Every horse in Crimson Desert has a trust level that ranges from 1 to 5. As trust increases, the horse unlocks new movement and combat abilities. You build trust by riding the horse regularly, feeding it, and healing it when injured. Higher trust levels provide access to better maneuvers and more responsive controls during mounted combat.
Equipment
Like all horses, Hespia supports four equipment slots:
Slot | Effect |
|---|---|
Champron | Protects the horse's head and face, increasing defense |
Barding | Covers the body, reducing incoming damage to the horse |
Saddle | Improves handling and stamina efficiency |
Stirrups | Increases rider stability and mounted attack power |
Equipping better gear on Hespia is one of the fastest ways to improve its performance. Even basic horse equipment purchased from stables significantly improves the riding experience.
Feeding and Healing
Hespia can be fed and healed using several methods:
Item | Effect |
|---|---|
Hay | Restores moderate health |
Sugar Beet | Small health recovery |
Sugar Cubes | Health recovery |
Horse Tonic | Extreme health boost |
Horse Stimulant | Amplifies stamina |
You can feed your horse while mounted by opening your inventory and selecting the item. You can also drop food from your inventory while the horse is summoned, and Hespia will eat it on its own. If Hespia is injured (visible from coat damage or the horse sitting on grass after being summoned), visit a stable and speak to the stable keeper to select Retrieve and Heal Horse, which costs copper or silver coins depending on the severity of the injury.
You can also heal Hespia using the Force Palm (Healing Palm) ability by striking the horse's torso, which restores it to full condition.
Tips
Do not underestimate Hespia. With proper leveling and equipment, your starter horse can carry you through most of the game.
Feed Hespia regularly to keep its health topped off and build trust faster.
Invest in a good Saddle early. The stamina efficiency improvement makes a noticeable difference in how far you can ride before needing to rest.
Once you unlock the ability to tame additional wild horses, compare their stats with Hespia's current stats. A wild horse with better base stats may be worth switching to, but a well-leveled Hespia is often competitive.
If Hespia becomes fatigued and refuses to run, stop sprinting and let its stamina recover naturally, or feed it a Horse Stimulant for an immediate stamina boost.
