Overview
The Clawed Bear (also referred to as the Black Bear mount) is a temporary mount in Crimson Desert. These bears are ridden by soldiers of The Black Bears faction. Players can obtain a Clawed Bear by defeating the faction soldier riding it and then mounting the animal. Like the wild Brown Bear mount, the Clawed Bear is a temporary ride that becomes hostile once the player dismounts.
Clawed Bears share the same general behavior and combat capabilities as wild Brown Bears. They feature powerful melee attacks and high health, making them effective offensive platforms for mounted combat. The primary difference is where they are found: Clawed Bears are always associated with Black Bears faction patrols and encampments rather than appearing as wild animals.

How to Obtain
Clawed Bears are obtained from Black Bears faction soldiers who ride them during patrols and at encampments:

Locate a Black Bears faction soldier riding a Clawed Bear. These patrols appear in territories controlled or contested by the faction.
Engage the soldier in combat. You must defeat the rider while avoiding the bear's attacks.
Once the soldier is defeated, the bear will be temporarily stunned or disoriented.
Approach quickly and press the ride button to mount the Clawed Bear before it recovers.

Combat Abilities
Clawed Bears share the same combat capabilities as wild Brown Bears:
Claw swipe attacks that deal heavy frontal damage to nearby enemies.
Body slam ability that staggers enemies in a small area around the bear.
High health pool allows the bear to absorb significant damage during prolonged fights.
Kliff can use his own weapons while riding, combining his attacks with the bear's for maximum damage output.
Relationship to the Black Bears Faction
The Black Bears are a bandit faction operating across Pywel. Their soldiers use trained Clawed Bears as war mounts during raids and territorial patrols. Encountering a Clawed Bear mount is often an indicator that the player has entered Black Bears territory. The faction's use of bear mounts reflects their emphasis on brute force and intimidation tactics.
Tips
Focus on eliminating the rider first. Ranged attacks are effective for picking off the soldier without engaging the bear directly.
Once the rider is down, mount the bear quickly before it regains its bearings and becomes aggressive.
Clawed Bears function identically to wild Brown Bear mounts in terms of combat controls and abilities.
Use the Clawed Bear to clear out the remaining faction soldiers at encampments for an efficient approach to faction encounters.
1.06.00 Permanent Taming Method
Before Patch 1.06.00, the Clawed Bear could only be borrowed for a single ride by knocking its rider off and mounting it before it turned hostile. The patch added every bear variant to the Special Mounts system, which means a Clawed Bear can now be registered permanently and summoned from the mount wheel like a horse. The process below is the in-build taming flow as of Patch 1.06.00 and the related additions in Patch 1.07.00.
Where to Find a Rideable Clawed Bear
The only consistent spawn for a Clawed Bear that is already saddled and ridden by a Black Bears faction soldier is the Beast Hunters Camp on the slopes of Silver Wolf Mountain. A single NPC rider patrols the camp; the bear may be inside the camp walls or on the immediate approach. There is no other confirmed open-world Clawed Bear rider spawn yet.
Two conditions can hide the spawn:
If you have already cleared the camp through the Liberation System, the rider does not return on a normal world reset.
If the regional area state has rolled to peaceful, the bear may not be present even on a fresh visit.
Both cases are recoverable by setting Re-Blockade Frequency to War (see Re-Blockading) in Settings, then leaving and returning to the area. The repopulation is random and may take more than one reload.
Step-by-Step Taming
Create a manual save at the closest fast travel point before engaging. If the bear dies during the fight, the only recovery is reloading or waiting for the next respawn cycle.
Buy at least three pieces of meat from any butchery. Bird meat does not work on bears, so use Lean Meat, Fine Meat, Tough Meat, or Marbled Meat. Each piece grants 40 trust on a bear.
Travel to the Beast Hunters Camp and locate the patrolling Black Bears rider on the saddled Clawed Bear.
Dismount the rider with a light attack that does not splash damage onto the bear. Try not to use heavy two-handed swings or AoE skills; a stray hit can kill the bear if its rider has already softened it up.
Kite the riderless bear away from the camp interior. The other Black Bears guards will join the fight if you stay inside, which raises the chance of an accidental kill.
Lock on and use Force Palm repeatedly from the ground. The community-recommended count is around ten force palms, sometimes more. The bear staggers between palms; the goal is to reach the on-screen Ride prompt.
When the Ride prompt appears, mount the bear, then open the inventory and feed the meat one piece at a time. Trust climbs by 40 per feed.
At 100 trust press Take In (Y on Xbox, Triangle on PlayStation). The Clawed Bear is added to the Special Mounts tab and can be summoned from the mount wheel.
Why Not Mount First
It is possible to leap onto the bear's back early and use Force Palm from there, which avoids the heaviest swing-grabs. The drawback is that the head-bow animation that signals the open feed window is much harder to read from the saddle than from the ground. The on-foot Force Palm loop is slower but gives a clearly visible Ride prompt. Either method works; the on-foot loop is the more reliable first attempt.
Combat Hazards
The Clawed Bear can swing-grab the player and ragdoll them several meters. Carry healing food or a stack of consumables.
Other camp enemies remain active during the taming attempt. Pulling the bear out to open ground removes most of that pressure.
Honey is sometimes raised as a faster taming food. Honey has not been confirmed to work on bears in 1.06.00 testing; Honey Tea is the cooked drink and is consumed by the player, not the mount.
Riding the Clawed Bear
Once registered, the Clawed Bear is summoned from the mount wheel and saddled for combat. Among the three currently rideable bears it is widely cited as the most distinctive in animation, with a wide swing attack used during mounted combat against ground targets. See Bear Mounts for the cross-bear comparison and Mounted Combat for the broader feed-while-riding and combat-input rules.
Related Bear Mounts
The Clawed Bear is one of three registerable bear mounts after Patch 1.06.00. The wild Brown Bear uses the same meat-and-Force-Palm flow. The legendary White Bear is unlocked through a kill-and-craft path with a witch vendor rather than through taming. See Bear Mounts and Legendary Mounts Guide for the full lineup.
