Regions of Idyll
September 17, 2026 at 12:20 AM
Initial version (2026-09-17)
Idyll is a single continent, not a cluster of separate landmasses, and the official world data divides it into six broad regions. Those six are the backbone of the map: they appear in every language the game publishes in, each carries its own short piece of setting text, and each has a distinct look and set of conditions that shape which Aniimo turn up there. This page covers those six, then the named places that are just as real but live somewhere other than that list.
Region is not the same thing as habitat. The six below are how the world is described. The creature index instead tags each entry with the named places it can be found in, and its list is longer and finer grained: it includes all six regions and several more locations besides. Habitats of Idyll covers that tagging in full. The rosters on this page are drawn from the launch creature index as read on 2026-09-17 UTC+8.
Region | Character | Index entries | Of which Basic Forms |
|---|---|---|---|
Forest of Falling Stars | A dense purple forest upstream, lit by drifting Celestises | 15 | 7 |
Mistwoods | A misted swamp of withered twigs, bubbles and miasma | 13 | 7 |
Echoback Landing | A coast with a stranded giant and a song that will not stop | 16 | 8 |
Sea of Flowers | An endless purple flower field with a perfume village in it | 17 | 7 |
Blitzwood | A thunder struck wood cut with scorched furrows | 16 | 8 |
Nimbus Fields | Cloud soft grassland where Nimbis bounce through green waves | 17 | 12 |
Entry counts run higher than species counts because a creature's Form moves it to a different habitat list. A species caught in one region in its Basic Form can appear in a completely different one as a Highland, Snowfield, Beach or Prismana Form, usually with a different elemental pairing attached. See Aniimo Forms.
Following the water upstream leads into a dense purple forest where Celestises glide between the starine trees like small shooting stars. It is the region the game most obviously names for its own inhabitants, and the index bears that out: Celestis and its evolution Stellarys are both here in their Basic Forms, with two further Stellarys Forms alongside them.

An off key song drifts among withered twigs while the swamp deep in the mist belches bubbles and poisonous miasma, and glimmer fruits shine like glass lamps to guide travellers who have lost the path. The off key singing is not just atmosphere: Hummin, whose Chinese name reads literally as off key grass, is one of the region's Basic Form residents.
As of the launch creature index this region's habitat tag reads The Mistwoods, with the definite article part of the tag, while the world map on the official site still labels the region Mistwoods without it. Both refer to the same place.

A coastal region defined by an unanswered question: why is an enormous Aniimo stranded here, kept from the sea it belongs to, and what is the enchanting Echoback singing that may hold the answer. Mechanically it is the game's water shelf, with eleven of its sixteen index entries carrying the Water element, and it is where the otter and shellfish families live.

An endless expanse of purple flowers, thick with fragrance, with a small village known for its perfumes nestled among them. The village has been a neighbour to the Aniimo for generations. The Sea of Flowers is also a Form tag in its own right, so several species appear here in a dedicated Sea of Flowers Form rather than their usual one.

Bloomville is the perfume village in the Sea of Flowers. The name comes from the studio's own creature features, which credit the village's finest perfumes to a single small creature, Dewy. The identification holds up against the index: both Dewy and its evolution Fragrancier carry Sea of Flowers as a habitat in their Basic Forms, and both are Dark element Support creatures, which is an unusual pairing for a flower field.
Bloomville is also a story location rather than only a piece of flavour text. A mission named Go to Bloomville appears by name in test build patch notes from early 2026, in a fix covering cases where no sleeping Aniimo appeared and the mission could not be completed. As of 2026-09-17 no launch window official material repeats the mission name, so treat the mission as confirmed for the test build and the village itself as confirmed by the creature feature.
Thunder drawn down by Bolties carves furrows into the earth of a grassy slope, turning up grey scorched soil while electric sparks crackle through the struck wood. Blitzwood is the Electric region, and it is also the only one of the six to have grown at launch: the two newly added Fire species Squarrel and Squashel were both placed here, taking the region from six Basic Form carriers to eight.

Soft clouds drift low over vast thick grassland, Nimbis bounce across the field, and the scent of fresh grass spreads as the green waves ripple. It is the most heavily populated of the six in Basic Forms, and the Wind element dominates it: the sheep and the seagull families are both here, and Nimbi and Turbo between them account for six of the region's seventeen index entries across their weather Forms.

Four further places are named in official material but do not appear in the six region world data. They are not lesser or unofficial; they simply sit at different levels of description. One is a city, one is a mode arena, and two are water places whose relationship to each other is deliberately left loose below.
Place | What it is | Where it is named |
|---|---|---|
The sky floating metropolis and social hub. A city rather than hunting ground, and it carries no habitat entries | Official site material and the launch patch notes | |
Lost Isles | The arena used by the Egg Heist mode. A mode zone rather than an open world region | Official storefront descriptions of the mode |
Whisperwake Isles | An island region named as the home of a block of water dwelling Aniimo | An official event FAQ published 2026-07-23 |
Crescent Bay | A water themed region added during the mid 2026 test window | Official mid 2026 material describing it as a new water themed region |
Beyond these, the creature index names eight further locations that behave as habitats without ever being called regions. Those are covered below and in full on Habitats of Idyll.
These two names are the most commonly muddled pair in the game's geography, and the honest position is that official usage does not resolve them into a neat hierarchy.
Both are official. Official mid 2026 material calls Crescent Bay a new water themed region in its own right. A separate official FAQ, published 2026-07-23, describes a group of ten water dwelling Aniimo as being from the Whisperwake Isles region, and the creature index of that period filed most of that same group under a Crescent Bay habitat tag. The ten named in the FAQ were Cheekie, Wavwal, Reefish, Coraliz, Popapus, Gachapus, Bubbeep, Glameep, Malangel and Malevsera.
It is tempting to conclude that Crescent Bay is a bay inside the Whisperwake Isles. Do not write that. One official surface calls Crescent Bay a region, another calls Whisperwake Isles a region, and no official surface has ever placed one inside the other. The safe framing is that Crescent Bay is the named water area carried as a habitat tag, and that the FAQ describes its creatures as coming from the Whisperwake Isles region, without asserting containment in either direction.
The official creature index was rebuilt for the launch on 2026-09-16, and two of its habitat tags moved. Both changes below are statements about the index, which is a data surface, and neither is evidence that a place was removed from the game.
Mistwoods is now tagged The Mistwoods, with the definite article part of the tag. The world map on the official site still writes Mistwoods without it.
Crescent Bay no longer appears as an English habitat tag anywhere in the index. In its place, Shelly carries an untranslated Simplified Chinese string that reads literally as Crescent Bay, plus a second untranslated string with no published English name at all.
Ten of the water dwelling species that previously carried the Crescent Bay tag are absent from the launch index, so the tag lost its carriers at the same time as it lost its English form.
The index now names fourteen habitats in English, down from fifteen.
Read those together and the most likely explanation is an incomplete localisation pass on a rebuilt data set rather than a change to the world. The place was named as a region in official material, and an untranslated string is a translation gap, not a deletion. As of 2026-09-17 no official material has announced the removal of any region. Anything written elsewhere in the form of Crescent Bay is the habitat of eight species should now be checked or hedged, because the index no longer supports the species list, but the region itself should not be renamed or dropped.
The creature index names eight further locations across the continent. They carry habitat entries exactly the way the six regions do, and several carry more than most of the regions, but the official world data does not describe them as regions. Full rosters for each are on Habitats of Idyll.
Named location | Index entries | Of which Basic Forms | Some of what lives there |
|---|---|---|---|
Russet Highlands | 22 | 5 | |
Beast Fang Ridge | 18 | 10 | |
Zephyrus Landbridge | 16 | 6 | |
Berylline Causeway | 16 | 7 | |
Driftwise Meadow | 15 | 4 | |
Rosetower Woods | 14 | 7 | |
The Argent Strait | 13 | 9 | |
Tideblossom Coast | 10 | 5 |
Rosetower Woods deserves a note: it appears in test build patch notes under the singular Rosetower Wood in a fix covering its weather forecast display, while the index tags it in the plural. The two are the same place.
Three named places carry no habitat entries in the index at all, for three different reasons. Astra is a city rather than a hunting ground. Lost Isles is a mode zone entered from the menu rather than walked into. Whisperwake Isles has never been a habitat tag in any version of the index, only a region name used in official prose.
Separately, eighteen of the eighty six Basic Forms in the launch index carry no habitat at all. Nearly all are final stage creatures, which fits how the game works: a creature at the end of an evolution line is raised rather than caught. See Evolution Lines.
