Where To Find It
Budsquire is listed in 2 habitats. Which creatures actually appear also depends on weather, time of day, and local phenomena, so a listed habitat is where to look rather than a guarantee.
Habitat |

Trait
Every Aniimo carries a passive Trait that is always active while it fights alongside a Pathfinder.
Trait | Effect |
|---|---|
Sword Dance | Each skill used grants 1 stack of [Sword Dance], up to 4 stacks, lasting 15s. Each basic attack costs 1 stack of [Sword Dance] to deal 180% extra damage. |
Skills
Budsquire brings 2 combat skills and 1 innate skill into a fight. Power is the skill's published damage figure and Cost is what it draws from the resource bar.
Skill | Type | Power | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Thorny Defense | Combat | 75 | 20 | Enters a defensive stance, reducing damage taken by 20% While in this state, it counters when attacked. If attacked just as the skill is used, its critical rate increases by 30% for 15s. |
Thorny Impact | Combat | 57 | 20 | Thrusts toward the target. On hit, increases this Aniimo's critical rate by 15% for 15s. |
ATK | Innate | 6 | 0 | Wields the power of grass to attack targets at close range. |
Choosing an evolution branch
Budsquire has two different level 27 outcomes. Prepare the correct battle or quest unlock before spending the materials. The Towerwood battle route keeps its own regional condition.
Starting form | Result | Level | Materials | Additional requirements |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Basic Budsquire | Basic Thornblade | 27 | 3 Sprout Stones | Defeat a Thornblade using a solo party containing only one Budsquire and no other members. Capturing the opponent does not satisfy this condition. |
Towerwood Budsquire | Towerwood Thornblade | 27 | 3 Sprout Stones | Defeat Basic Thornblade using a solo party containing only one Towerwood Budsquire and no other members, then evolve in Rosetower Woods. Defeat the opponent rather than capturing it. |
Basic Budsquire | 27 | 3 Sprout Stones; 1 Stamen of Cubbo's Rose | Complete Journey: Flowers and Thorns and use a Budsquire whose personality includes Faithful. |
The Melloblum branch needs a Faithful personality and the Stamen of Cubbo's Rose. The Rosetower Wood - Sightseeing quest provides a route to that material; check the material reference before committing a Budsquire.
Search landmarks
Area or form | Where to search |
|---|---|
Sea of Flowers | Search the open flower fields, including the groups east of a Bloom. |
Rosetower Woods | Search the grassy fields north of Rosetower Woods Bloom; some groups stand near Pomegg. |
Rosetower Woods | Check the flower patch southwest of the Bloom and the grassy field southeast of it. |
Rosetower Woods | Search north of the RV Park and along the mountain-approach slopes. |
Rosetower Woods | Follow the path near the Branch and inspect the nearby pillars. |
Rosetower Woods: Towerwood | Check the northern tower vicinity, eastern cliff and southeastern ruin complex. This form can appear at any time and in any weather. |
Using its counter and basic attacks
Use Thorny Impact to gain its critical-rate bonus on a hit. For Thorny Defense, time the stance with an incoming attack to obtain the stronger critical-rate opening. Skill use builds Sword Dance; basic attacks spend those stacks rather than preserving them indefinitely.
