Overview
Tool Blueprints in Crimson Desert are diagrams that guide players in crafting tools, projectiles, and special utility items. Each blueprint requires specific materials and must be crafted at a Smithy in any town. Tools serve dual purposes in the game, supporting both daily activities like gathering and combat functions like ammunition resupply.
Tool blueprints can be obtained by purchasing them from vendors or by exploring Pywel. Like other Crafting Manuals, once a blueprint is read, the knowledge is permanently learned and the blueprint item can be sold.
Projectile Blueprints
Projectile blueprints are among the most commonly used tool recipes. Players who rely on ranged weapons need a steady supply of ammunition, and crafting projectiles at the Smithy is the most cost-effective method.
Projectile | Ingredients | Crafting Station | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Arrows | Smithy | Standard ammunition for bows; timber obtained by chopping trees | |
Bullets | Iron Ore x2, Gunpowder x4 | Smithy | Ammunition for firearms; gunpowder purchased from merchants or crafted |
Small Cannon Balls | Iron Ore x10, Gunpowder x10 | Smithy | Heavy ordnance; requires significant material investment |
Keep a reserve of arrows and bullets in your inventory at all times. Running out of ammunition during an encounter forces you to switch to melee combat, which may not suit every build.
Special Tools
Beyond basic projectiles, tool blueprints include recipes for unique utility items that provide gameplay advantages outside of direct combat.
Scarecrow Cloak
The Scarecrow Cloak is a stealth utility item crafted at the Smithy. When Kliff stands still while wearing the cloak, enemies have a harder time detecting him. This makes it useful for scouting enemy camps, avoiding unwanted fights, and setting up ambushes.
Item | Ingredients | Crafting Station | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
Scarecrow Cloak | Hay x5, Cloth Pieces x10 | Smithy | Reduces enemy detection when stationary |
The cloak only works while stationary. Moving breaks the concealment effect. It pairs well with ranged weapon builds that benefit from initiating combat from a hidden position.
Kuku Pot
The Kuku Pot (also called the Kuku Iron Pot) is a unique portable crafting tool obtained during the main story quest "The Mysterious Pot" (Mission 49, Chapter 4). It is crafted through an interaction with Grimnir, an NPC wearing a Visione helmet in the Hernand region.
Item | Ingredients | Obtained Via | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
Kuku Pot | Iron Ore x5, Timber x5 | Grimnir (main quest) | Portable crafting station with infinite internal space for reshaping materials |
The Kuku Pot is described as having "infinite space that defies the laws of nature." It functions as a portable crafting station that allows Kliff to reshape and combine materials in the field without needing to visit a town Smithy. You can also use your Axiom Force grapple ability to seal Abyss Cells inside the pot and craft new contraptions from captured mechanisms.
Crafting at the Smithy
The primary Smithy in the game is located in the heart of Hernand Town, operated by the blacksmith Smithy (the NPC shares the name of his profession). Before you can craft weapons and equipment, you must complete a short quest to help him repair his hammer. After completing this quest, the Smithy offers full crafting services for all learned blueprints.
Just outside the blacksmith's shop, the friendly NPC Rhett runs the Hernand Equipment Shop where you can purchase crafting books and ready-made equipment.
Materials for Tool Crafting
The core materials for tool blueprints are gathered through life skills:
Material | Gathering Method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Timber | Chop trees with an axe (Woodcutting) | Common material; used in arrows and the Kuku Pot |
Iron Ore | Mine ore deposits with a pickaxe (Mining) | Used in all projectile recipes and many equipment crafts |
Gunpowder | Purchased from merchants or crafted | Required for bullets and cannon balls |
Hay | Gathered from fields and farmland | Used in the Scarecrow Cloak |
Cloth Pieces | Vendors, loot drops, textile merchants | Used in the Scarecrow Cloak and armor crafting |
Tool quality affects gathering efficiency. A Masterwork Pickaxe mines nodes in about 2 seconds and yields 3 to 5 Iron Ore per node, with chances for a Critical Harvest bonus. Basic tools are slower and produce less material per node.
Tips
Craft arrows and bullets in bulk during town visits. Having a large reserve prevents ammunition shortages during long exploration sessions.
The Scarecrow Cloak is most effective when paired with a bow or firearm. Open combat from stealth for bonus damage before enemies detect you.
Complete Grimnir's quest as soon as it becomes available. The Kuku Pot's portable crafting ability saves frequent trips back to town.
Iron Ore is the most commonly required material for tool blueprints. Memorize a mining route near Hernand to keep your supply topped off.
Resource nodes in Crimson Desert have fixed positions on the map. Once you memorize a farming route, the nodes will always be in the same spot after they respawn.
Upgrade your gathering tools as you progress. Higher-tier pickaxes and axes dramatically improve yield and speed.
