Lawless Market is the opening faction quest of the My Black Market storyline in Crimson Desert. Completing it, along with the prerequisite Raiders in Muiquun chain, unlocks the Back Alley Shop in Muiquun and is the only way to add the coveted Black Dye to a vendor's inventory.

How to Start Lawless Market
You cannot pick up Lawless Market directly from a quest board. The objective appears after the following conditions are met:
Travel to Tashkalp (sometimes pronounced "Tcalp") in the far northeast of Hernand, near the border of the Crimson Desert region.
Find the bounty poster mounted on a pillar at the location south of Tashkalp that gives the Raiders in Muiquun request. Interacting with it opens the raiders questline.
Follow the four-mission Raiders in Muiquun chain and liberate Muiquun by defeating the Mistcloaked Owls occupying the settlement.
Return to Muiquun after the town is freed. Civilian NPCs repopulate the streets, and Lawless Market is triggered by eavesdropping on them.
Walkthrough
Step 1: Eavesdrop in Muiquun
Move to the southeast corner of Muiquun and find the pair of suspicious individuals in conversation. The group includes local merchants and farmers who are complaining about a stolen wagon operation. The listen prompt is intentionally finicky, so angle your character in close and creep up until the "Listen" interaction appears. If it does not trigger right away, back off a pace and approach from a slightly different angle.
Step 2: Travel to the Wagon Fence
After the eavesdrop cutscene ends, head southwest of Muiquun to the hidden wagon fence. This is the actual Lawless Market the quest is named for. The operation is run by an NPC who handles stolen horse-drawn carriages. Speak to the head of operations to accept the delivery job.
Step 3: Deliver Three Wagons
The fence needs three wagons delivered back to the market. The objective text simply says "get on the wagon" with no map marker, so you have to search for wagons yourself. They spawn along the road network connecting Tashkalp, Muiquun, and the surrounding outlaw territory. Notes on wagon selection:
The first wagon should be an outlaw-driven wagon found near Tashkalp. Taking it does not incur a criminal bounty because the current "owners" are already criminals.
The second wagon is usually the abandoned wagon parked next to the fence itself, already taken by bandits. Grab it, drive it a short distance, and park it back at the fence for an easy second delivery.
The third wagon requires stealing from a legitimate owner on the open road, which can draw guards if you are spotted. Keep your mask ready and avoid riding through populated areas.
After each delivery, return to the fence before looking for the next wagon. The NPC resets the "get on a wagon" objective between hand-offs.
Pure Black Dye Quest Chain Notes
Lawless Market is also the wagon-theft chapter that unlocks the back-alley vendor selling the rare Pure Black Dye. The standard walkthrough above covers the full quest; the notes below add a few small refinements that make the run smoother on the dye-hunting path. Raiders in Muiquun must already be cleared before any of this triggers.
Eavesdrop Location
The triggering conversation sits at the small settlement directly below the Tashkalp town fast travel point. After clearing Muiquun, fast travel back to the Tashkalp node and walk a short distance down the slope to the settlement. The pair of NPCs talking about a stolen wagon stand near the central crossing of the settlement; approach until the Listen prompt fires, then follow the marked NPC for the wagon-theft brief.
First Wagon Is the One Outside the Fence
The first delivery target is the wagon parked just outside the wagon fence itself. The Steal prompt fires on this wagon the same way it does on any other. Contrary to advice that the first wagon must be an unstolen vehicle for the quest to register, that is not the case in the current build. The fence accepts the parked outside-the-gate wagon as the first hand-off without issue, so taking the closest available option saves a long ride.
Second and Third Wagons
After returning the first wagon, the fence asks for two more. The fastest scouting loop is to fast travel to the next abyss node along the road, glide out from the rooftop, and look for either parked wagons or wagons being driven by bandits. Either source is accepted for delivery.
Bandit-driven wagons: clear the bandits on the road, hop onto the empty wagon, and drive it straight to the fence.
Parked wagons: any wagon left along the road can be taken. If a guard is in line of sight, slip around the back before mounting to avoid drawing aggro.
Plan ahead: during the second-wagon trip, mark a third wagon spotted along the route so the third delivery can start without an extra scouting pass.
Dismount and Remount Between Deliveries
There is a known sticking issue where a delivered wagon refuses to move when the player attempts to drive away from the fence after a hand-off. Workaround: dismount the wagon entirely, take a few steps clear, and remount it. The wagon physics reinitialize and the wagon drives normally afterward. Apply this any time the wagon will not respond to the gallop input between deliveries.
Silent Completion and Vendor Spawn
After the third wagon is parked at the fence, the quest closes out silently. There is no return prompt and no NPC dialog to confirm the wrap-up; the quest tracker simply clears. From this point, fast travel to any Abyss Nexus and back to reset the area so the new question-mark icon spawns on the map. Following that marker leads to the Back Alley Vendor: Mock Root Windmill who stocks the Pure Black Dye.
Step | Action |
|---|---|
1 | Fast travel to Tashkalp town node and descend to the small settlement directly below it. |
2 | Eavesdrop on the wagon-theft conversation at the central crossing and follow the marked NPC for the brief. |
3 | Steal the wagon parked outside the fence and deliver it as the first hand-off. |
4 | Scout from the next abyss node for two more wagons. Parked or bandit-driven both work; dismount and remount the wagon if it sticks between deliveries. |
5 | After the third delivery the quest ends silently. Fast travel away and back to reset, then follow the new question-mark marker to the back-alley vendor for the Pure Black Dye. |
The dye works the same way other dyes do: select Use on the bottle from the inventory first, then visit a Barber Shop and Dyehouse (the Wyanut house is the most convenient on the return route) to apply the color to armor. After the first use, the dye is also available at any other dyehouse the player has unlocked.
Completion and Rewards
When the third wagon is delivered, Lawless Market closes out automatically. Wagon trading becomes available to you from this point on, and the My Black Market arc advances. Fast travel to a nearby Abyss Nexus and back to Muiquun: on your return a new Back Alley Shop merchant spawns on the east side of the village, stocking the Black Dye for 37.5 silver. Remember to Use the dye bottle from your inventory to unlock the color palette at every Dyehouse.
Tips
Stick to the main roads when hunting wagons. Wagons only spawn on established paths, not in open wilderness.
Carry a mask before driving stolen wagons so you can slip past guard patrols without triggering a bounty.
Stop at the Abyss Nexus between Tashkalp and Muiquun on your first visit. You will be fast travelling through it repeatedly during this questline.
If the eavesdrop prompt in Muiquun refuses to appear, leave the area for a minute and come back. The conversation loop occasionally resets off-screen.
Save a minimum of 37.5 silver before the final delivery so you can buy the Black Dye immediately when the shop appears.
