Overview
Traitor is the climactic boss quest of Chapter 6 in Crimson Desert. The truth comes out: Cassius Morten was never acting alone. His loyalty belongs to Basteri, the Grand General of Demeniss. The conspiracy between the Black Bears and Demeniss runs deeper than anyone suspected. Kliff confronts Morten inside Calphade Castle.
Walkthrough
Enter the Castle
Head through the castle's final door to enter the boss arena. The fight begins immediately after a brief cutscene.
Boss Fight: Cassius Morten
Cassius Morten is a sword-wielding boss who fights defensively. He blocks frequently and counters aggressively when you overcommit to combos. Here is the recommended approach:
Recommended Equipment
Slot | Recommendation |
|---|---|
Weapon | |
Key Skill | Nature's Echo (green skill tree) |
Healing | 50+ Grilled Meat |
Strategy
Use heavy attacks (R2 / RT) repeatedly. The Tauria Curved Sword's heavy strikes penetrate Morten's guard even when he is blocking. After three consecutive hits, he becomes staggered and vulnerable to follow-up light attacks. The Nature's Echo skill (from the green skill tree) duplicates your heavy attacks, effectively doubling your damage during this window.
The pattern is simple: R2 heavy attack three times to break his guard, then follow up with a light attack combo while he is staggered. Back off when he recovers and repeat. Heal with directional pad right between exchanges if needed.
Story Implications
Morten's betrayal confirms what was hinted at since Exposed Plot: the Black Bears' aggression was not random violence but a coordinated campaign backed by Demeniss. Basteri's involvement raises the stakes beyond a regional conflict. This revelation directly sets up the events of Chapter 7, where the consequences of the conspiracy become personal for the Greymanes.
Tips
Heavy attacks are the answer. Do not try to parry Morten; his counter-attacks after blocked parries are punishing.
Nature's Echo turns this fight from difficult to manageable. If you have not purchased it yet, consider doing so before entering the arena.
If you run low on healing items, there is no way to resupply mid-fight. Come prepared with at least 50 Grilled Meat.
The Shield of Betrayal reward is a decent defensive item. Equip it if it outperforms your current gear.
