Overview
The Scooter Rental system provides electric scooter access at parking spots scattered across Starsand Island. Scooters are one of the earliest vehicles the player can use, available well before crafting or purchasing a personal vehicle. The rental system gives new players a reliable way to traverse the island's large map without relying solely on walking or fast travel points.
Unlocking the Free Rental Pass
During the Apprentice Crafter quest line with Zerine, the player is directed to visit Neona for the first time. Neona is one of the island's key NPCs who manages various community services. As part of this quest introduction, Neona gives the player a Scooter Rental Pass that grants 48 hours of free electric scooter rentals from any parking spot on the island.
The 48-hour timer runs on in-game time, not real-world time. Depending on the game's day/night cycle speed, this translates to a generous window of free transportation during the early game when the player is still establishing their farm and exploring the island's major landmarks.
Apprentice Crafter Context
The Apprentice Crafter quest is part of the broader Getting Started progression. It introduces the player to crafting professions, basic material processing, and key NPCs around the island. Visiting Neona and receiving the free pass happens naturally during this quest chain, so no special steps are required to unlock it.
How Scooter Rental Works
Walk to any scooter parking spot on the island. These are marked with a small scooter icon on the map.
Interact with the parking terminal to rent an electric scooter.
If your Rental Pass is active, the scooter is free. Otherwise, a small coin fee is charged per rental.
Ride the scooter to your destination. The scooter has a limited battery that lasts for several minutes of continuous riding.
When you arrive, park the scooter at any other parking spot to end the rental. You can also simply dismount anywhere, but the scooter will despawn after a short time if not parked properly.
Parking Spot Locations
Scooter parking spots are distributed across the island at high-traffic areas and near important landmarks. The following table lists the main parking locations.
Location | Area | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Hopeland Entrance | Player's property | Closest spot to your home base |
General Store | Town center | Near Zerine's shop |
Green Pasture Ranch | Ranch area | Convenient for ranching tasks |
Moonlit Forest Trailhead | Forest entrance | Starting point for forest exploration |
Beach Boardwalk | Coastal area | Near fishing spots and the beach |
Mining District | Mountain foothills | Close to mine entrances |
Farming Association | Agricultural zone | Near crop fields and farming NPCs |
Harbor | Docks area | Near boat services and ocean activities |
The exact number of parking spots may increase as the game receives updates. Check your in-game map for the scooter icon to find all current locations.
Rental Costs
After the free 48-hour Rental Pass expires, each scooter rental costs a small coin fee. The fee is charged per rental session, not per minute of use.
Rental Type | Cost | Duration |
|---|---|---|
Free Pass rental | 0 coins | Until pass expires (48 in-game hours total) |
Standard rental | 50 coins per rental | One session (until you park or dismount) |
Extended pass (purchasable) | 500 coins | 24 in-game hours of unlimited rentals |
The 50-coin per-rental cost is negligible for mid-game players, but it can add up for early-game players who rent frequently. Consider purchasing the Extended Pass from Neona's services terminal if you find yourself renting scooters multiple times per in-game day.
Scooter Performance
Rental scooters are electric-powered and have consistent performance characteristics across all parking locations. They are slower than personal vehicles but significantly faster than walking.
Stat | Rental Scooter | G-Power Bike |
|---|---|---|
Top speed | Moderate | High |
Acceleration | Moderate | Fast |
Battery / fuel | Limited (several minutes) | Rechargeable at home |
Availability | Any parking spot | Personal (crafted or purchased) |
Cost | 50 coins per rental | One-time crafting cost |
Terrain handling | Roads and flat terrain only | Roads and moderate terrain |
Storage | None | Small cargo compartment |
The rental scooter lacks a storage compartment, so you cannot carry extra items beyond your personal inventory while riding. The G-Power Bike and other personal vehicles offer storage and better performance, making them the preferred choice for mid-to-late game transportation.
When to Transition to Personal Vehicles
The scooter rental system is designed as a bridge between walking and owning your own vehicle. Most players transition away from rentals once they can afford to craft or purchase a personal vehicle. The G-Power Bike is typically the first personal vehicle players unlock, and it outperforms rental scooters in every category.
However, rental scooters remain useful even after owning a vehicle. If your personal vehicle runs out of charge far from home, a nearby scooter parking spot can get you back. Rental scooters also serve as backup transportation when you lend your vehicle to a co-op partner or when your vehicle is undergoing upgrades at a workshop.
Tips
Use the free Rental Pass aggressively during the first 48 in-game hours. Explore the entire island, visit all major landmarks, and unlock fast travel points while transportation is free.
Memorize parking spot locations near areas you visit frequently. Planning routes between parking spots makes scooter travel much more efficient.
Do not waste coins on scooter rentals once you are close to unlocking the G-Power Bike. Save your money for crafting materials instead.
The scooter works only on roads and flat terrain. Do not try to take it off-road into forests or up mountain paths; it will get stuck or move extremely slowly.
If you dismount a rental scooter without parking it at a designated spot, it will disappear after about one in-game minute. Always park at a spot if you want the option to ride back.
Rental scooters cannot be customized or upgraded. If you want a faster, better-looking ride, invest in a personal vehicle.
