Overview
In Pokemon Pokopia, you can have befriended Pokemon follow Ditto around as companions. Followers walk behind you as you explore, and certain followers can use their specialties while tagging along. Up to five Pokemon can follow you at the same time, making your exploration party a useful tool for gathering resources, traveling quickly, and carrying extra items.
How to Ask a Pokemon to Follow You
Method 1: Talk to Them
Walk up to any befriended Pokemon and interact with them. In the conversation menu, select the "Follow me!" option. The Pokemon will react, and Ditto will do a little animation to confirm. The Pokemon then begins following you.
Method 2: D-Pad Shortcut
Stand in front of a Pokemon and press the Up button on the D-Pad. Ditto will react along with the target Pokemon, and the Pokemon will start following you. This is faster than opening the conversation menu.
How to Dismiss a Follower
To tell a Pokemon to stop following you, hold the Up button on the D-Pad. You will part ways, and the Pokemon returns to its normal routine in the area.
Follower Limit
You can have a maximum of five Pokemon following you at any given time. If you already have five followers and want to add a different Pokemon, you will need to dismiss one of your current followers first by holding the Up button near them.
Hungry Pokemon Will Not Follow
If a Pokemon is hungry, it will refuse to follow you. You need to feed them first before they will agree to come along. If a Pokemon that was following you becomes hungry, it may also stop and refuse to continue until fed.
Recommended Followers by Specialty
Certain specialties are especially useful to have on a follower, since the Pokemon can use their abilities while walking with you:
Specialty | Benefit While Following | Recommended Pokemon |
|---|---|---|
Storage | Provides extra inventory space while traveling | |
Fly | Enables fast travel to other Pokemon via the Pokedex | |
Search | Finds valuable hidden items while exploring | Pokemon with Search specialty |
DJ | Plays background music from collected CDs | Pokemon with DJ specialty |
What Followers Can Do
Use their specialized abilities on tasks and objects in the environment.
Assist with construction projects that require a specific Pokemon's help.
Be moved to new homes you have built by walking them to the habitat and speaking to them.
Transfer between different areas by following you as you travel.
Complete Pokemon-specific requests that require their presence.
Tips
Always keep at least one Storage-specialty Pokemon in your party for extra carrying capacity during long gathering trips.
Having a Fly-specialty follower in each area lets you fast travel to any Pokemon on the map through the Pokedex, which is the fastest way to get around.
Before heading out on an exploration session, feed your preferred followers to make sure none of them are hungry and refuse to join.
You can mix and match follower specialties depending on your current goal. For a building session, bring Storage Pokemon. For exploration, bring Search and Fly Pokemon.
