Overview
The Handy Bag is a quality-of-life upgrade in Pokemon Pokopia that provides a quick-access toolbar for frequently used items along with 10 additional inventory slots. It eliminates the need to open your full inventory every time you want to use an item, making gathering, crafting, and building significantly smoother.
How to Obtain the Handy Bag
The Handy Bag is purchased from the PC Shop for 500 Coins. It becomes available for purchase after reaching Environment Level 3 in the Withered Wasteland. Once purchased, the Handy Bag is automatically equipped and ready to use. You do not need to manually equip it from your inventory.
How to Use the Handy Bag
After purchasing the Handy Bag, follow these steps to set it up and use it effectively:
Step 1: Add Items to the Toolbar
Press the X button to place items from your main inventory into the Handy Bag toolbar. This toolbar provides 10 slots for quick access to items you use frequently, such as building blocks, seeds, food, or crafting materials.
Step 2: Pin the Toolbar
Press Right Analog Click (R3) to keep the Handy Bag toolbar pinned on screen while exploring the overworld. When pinned, the toolbar remains visible at all times so you can see which items are currently selected.
Step 3: Switch Between Items
Use D-Pad Left and Right to cycle through the items in your Handy Bag toolbar. The currently selected item will be highlighted, and pressing the use button will deploy that item.
Step 4: Return Items to Main Inventory
To remove an item from the Handy Bag toolbar and return it to your main inventory, hold ZL + Y.
Controls Summary
Action | Button |
|---|---|
Add items to toolbar | X |
Pin toolbar on screen | Right Analog Click (R3) |
Switch between items | D-Pad Left / Right |
Return item to inventory | ZL + Y |
Important: Move Switching Changes
While the Handy Bag toolbar is active, the D-Pad Left and Right buttons are reassigned to item switching. This means you cannot use D-Pad Left/Right to switch between Pokemon Moves as you normally would. Instead, to switch moves while the Handy Bag is active, hold L and use the Left Joystick to cycle through your available moves. This is an important control change to get used to, especially during time-sensitive tasks that require both items and moves.

Tips
Fill the toolbar with your most-used building materials or food items to save time during long building or exploration sessions.
The extra 10 inventory slots from the Handy Bag stack with any additional storage you get from Pokemon with the Storage specialty (like Gulpin or Swalot) following you.
Pin the toolbar early and leave it on. Having items always visible helps you remember what you are carrying and reduces menu navigation.
Practice the new move-switching controls (hold L + Joystick) before heading into areas where you need to use moves quickly, so the muscle memory is there when you need it.
