Overview
Plate Armor of the World, Vol. I is a crafting manual in Crimson Desert that teaches plate armor forging recipes for the Smithy. It is the first volume in the Plate Armor of the World series and covers a complete set of protective gear: body armor, headgear, footwear, gloves, and a cloak. Each piece has its own material requirements, giving Kliff a full defensive loadout from a single crafting book.
Plate armor provides the heaviest physical protection of any armor type in the game. While it reduces incoming damage significantly, heavier pieces may affect stamina usage and movement speed. Balancing protection with mobility is a key part of the combat system in Crimson Desert.
How to Obtain
This manual can be purchased from equipment vendors in Hernand, including Rhett at the Hernand Equipment Shop. It is available early in the game at a modest silver price. Like all crafting books, additional copies can also be discovered while exploring Pywel. A book icon appears on the mini-map whenever you are close to a crafting manual.
Certain side quests may also reward crafting manuals upon completion, so it is worth clearing early requests as soon as they become available.
Crafting Station
All plate armor recipes from this volume are forged at the Smithy. Visit a blacksmith such as Turnali in Hernand, select the crafting option, and choose the armor piece you want. Crafting does not require any currency; only the listed materials are consumed.
Materials Required
This volume contains recipes for five equipment slots, each with different material costs. The body armor requires the most resources, while headgear, footwear, and gloves need fewer ores. The cloak is unique in that it blends metal with cloth and fleece.
Body Armor
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
5 | Mining ore deposits throughout Pywel | |
2 | Mining copper veins, vendors |
Headgear, Footwear, and Gloves
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
3 | Mining ore deposits throughout Pywel | |
1 | Mining copper veins, vendors |
Each accessory piece (headgear, footwear, and gloves) costs the same amount of ore, making it straightforward to craft the entire set in one smithing session.
Cloak
Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
1 | Mining ore deposits | |
9 | Looted from enemies, purchased from vendors | |
2 | Skinning sheep and goats |
The cloak recipe is the only one in this volume that uses fabric-based materials. Cloth Pieces can be looted from defeated enemies or bought from merchants, while Fleece is obtained by skinning livestock such as sheep and goats found across the countryside.
Total Materials for Full Set
To craft every piece of armor unlocked by this manual in a single trip, you will need:
Material | Total Quantity |
|---|---|
15 | |
5 | |
9 | |
2 |
That total breaks down as: 5 Iron Ore and 2 Copper Ore for body armor, 3 Iron Ore and 1 Copper Ore each for headgear, footwear, and gloves (9 Iron Ore and 3 Copper Ore combined), plus 1 Iron Ore, 9 Cloth Pieces, and 2 Fleece for the cloak.
Recipes Unlocked
Reading this manual adds the following plate armor recipes to the Smithy crafting menu:
Equipment | Slot | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Body Armor | Heavy-duty chain mail worn by fighters in the northern reaches of Pywel | |
Northern Fighter's Helm | Protective headgear matching the chain mail set | |
Northern Fighter's Boots | Sturdy boots with reinforced metal plating | |
Northern Fighter's Gauntlets | Metal gauntlets providing protection for the hands and wrists | |
Northern Fighter's Cloak | A lined cloak reinforced with a thin iron frame |
Refinement
All armor pieces crafted from this volume can be upgraded through refinement at the Smithy. Armor refinement uses the same type of materials as the initial craft: ores for metal pieces and cloth materials for the cloak. Levels 1 through 4 use standard materials, while level 5 and above requires Abyss Artifacts. You can also sacrifice a duplicate armor piece to cover the refinement cost.
Tips
Crafting the full five-piece set from this single manual gives you a strong early-game defensive loadout. Prioritize the body armor first, as it provides the largest defense boost.
Iron Ore and Copper Ore are easy to stockpile early on through mining. Hit every ore deposit you pass while traveling between quest objectives.
The cloak recipe is the only piece in this volume that requires Cloth Pieces and Fleece. If you are short on those materials, craft the four metal pieces first and come back for the cloak later.
Later volumes in the Plate Armor of the World series unlock heavier armor with better stats but require rarer materials like Bloodstone.
