Overview
Platinum is a rare crafting material in Crimson Desert that gleams with a silvery light and does not oxidize. It has outstanding durability and magical conductivity, making it highly valued for advanced alchemical catalysts and endurance enhancers. Platinum is primarily used in crafting endgame weapons and armor rather than as a direct source of income, since it cannot be invested at the bank the way Gold Bars can. It can only be produced through alchemy at a Witch NPC.

How to Get the Platinum Recipe
The Alchemy Formula: Platinum is found inside the Scholastone Institute library. Enter the main central entrance and proceed to the large courtyard corridor at the back. A magical door pulses and opens as you approach. Inside the library, take either the left or right staircase to the second floor. Walk along the left balcony to the back corner, where the recipe scroll sits on a bookshelf. Make sure to equip the scroll from your inventory and use your Lantern on it to permanently learn the formula.
The recipe is found inside the Scholar Stone Institute. Head to the second level of the institute's library and search the bookshelves there. The recipe scroll will be interactable once you are close enough. This is the only known source for the platinum crafting recipe.
Crafting Recipe
Platinum is crafted at a Witch NPC, not at a Cauldron. At least one Witch is located near the Cauldron inside Shadow's Whisper Cave.
Ingredient | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
1 | Crafted via alchemy (see Gold Bar article) | |
4 | Sulfur pools at Hexe Sanctuary | |
3 | Frozen pools at Hexe Sanctuary and Silver Wolf Mountain | |
2 | Purchased from town church vendors |
One of the key ingredients for crafting platinum is holy water. Unlike many rare materials that require farming or exploration, holy water can be purchased directly from any church through the buy menu. Combined with a gold bar and other gathered materials, the crafting process itself is straightforward once you have the recipe.
Uses
Platinum is used in several advanced crafting recipes for endgame weapons and armor. Its high durability and magical conductivity make it essential for the strongest equipment tiers in the game. While Platinum can also be sold for profit, its primary value lies in unlocking top-tier gear recipes.
Aserian Weapon Performance
Aserian weapons crafted with platinum share the same base stats as weapons made from more common materials. This is a noted disappointment among players given the high material cost involved in obtaining platinum. The long sword variant is a partial exception, as it comes with critical rate as a default stat. At maximum level with two level 3 crit abyss gears socketed, the Aserian long sword reaches +9 critical rate.
Currently, Aserian weapons are primarily an aesthetic and prestige choice rather than a competitive upgrade. There is community hope that Pearl Abyss will eventually adjust the stats on Aserian weapons to better justify the platinum investment required to craft them.
Aeserion Weapon Requirement
Platinum is the gate metal on every Aeserion recipe. The blueprint pages you read at the Serpent Shrine unlock the smithy entries, but no Aeserion weapon, single-handed, two-handed, polearm, bow, or otherwise, will craft without Platinum in the ingredient list. If you are stockpiling toward the Aeserion Longsword, Aeserion Halberd, Aeserion Sword, Aeserion Bow, or Aeserion Dagger, the bottleneck is almost always how much Platinum you can keep on hand, not the scales.
Recipe Pickup Walkthrough
The Alchemy Formula: Platinum recipe lives in the Scholastone Institute library and must be picked up before the witch will craft for you. The recipe is hidden in a small reading nook off the main hall; missing the turn sends you past it into the wrong room.
Travel to the Scholastone Institute. Use the nearest fast-travel anchor and approach the main gate.
Enter the main gate. Open the first gate and step into the entry hall.
Go straight, then look left. From the entry, head straight forward; a flight of stairs leads off the left wall.
Take the left stairs through the narrow passage. The passage is easy to miss because it is tucked behind a row of shelves. Follow it to its end.
Pick the recipe off the left wall. The Alchemy Formula: Platinum page sits on the left wall at the back of the passage; interact to learn it. The recipe must be learned (not just collected) before the witch will offer the craft.
Crafting Reagent Breakdown
Platinum is crafted at any witch under the Craft Abyss Gear tab in the Special Items section, once the recipe is learned. The four reagents are listed below in order of farming difficulty.
Reagent | Per Platinum | Source |
|---|---|---|
1 | Crafted at the witch from Gold Ore and Golden Apple; pickup chain involves the cave below Baloun for the recipe and three cave loops for ore. | |
Per witch formula | Farmed at Deadfire Mountain above Demeniss from living rocks and three-vent rocks. | |
Per witch formula | Farmed at the Deadfire Mountain pond just right of the Brimstone area; freeze the pond with ice-element arrows, then collect. | |
Per witch formula | Sold at any major church, including Hernand, Demeniss, and Delesyia; the simplest reagent to source. |
Crafted At
Platinum is crafted at a witch, not at a cauldron. The witch near the cauldron camp is the most convenient option once you have all four reagents stocked. Visit the witch, open Craft Abyss Gear, select Special Items, and queue the Platinum craft.
Aeserion Crafting Loop
With the recipe learned and the four reagents stocked, the standard loop is: craft Gold Bars at the witch, run the Deadfire Mountain Brimstone and Mercury circuits, top up Holy Water at the nearest church, craft Platinum at the witch, then take the Platinum (plus your Aeserion's Scales and the per-weapon extras) to the smithy to roll the Aeserion piece. Stockpiling four to six Platinum at a time lets you craft a full Aeserion weapon without an extra trip back through the witch.
Tips
Craft Gold Bars first using 3 Brimstone + 3 Mercury + 10 Silver Ore, then use those Gold Bars as an ingredient for Platinum.
Stock up on Holy Water from town churches whenever you visit a settlement. It is easy to overlook since it is sold by a specialized vendor rather than general merchants.
The total material cost for one Platinum (including the Gold Bar ingredient) is: 7 Brimstone, 6 Mercury, 10 Silver Ore, and 2 Holy Water.
If you are focused on making money, sell Gold Bars directly and invest them at the bank. Reserve Platinum crafting for when you need endgame equipment.
