Overview
Timber and Fine Timber are crafting materials in Crimson Desert used at the Blacksmith for refinement. They are the primary resources for upgrading wooden shields. Both materials drop from the same trees, so any tree you fell will yield a mix of Timber and Fine Timber.
How to Obtain
Timber and Fine Timber are gathered by felling trees using a Logging Axe. The process works as follows:
Buy a Logging Axe from the Provisioner's Shop in Hernand.
Approach any tree in the open world and equip the Logging Axe.
Chop the tree by pressing L1+R1 (PlayStation) or LB+RB (Xbox). Kliff will swing the axe into the trunk until the tree falls.
Break the trunk: after the tree falls, continue hitting the downed trunk to split it into collectible pieces.
Collect the drops: each tree yields both Timber and Fine Timber.
Alternatively, the Turning Slash ability can fell trees without requiring a Logging Axe, which is useful if you spot harvestable trees while exploring and do not have the axe equipped.
Where to Find Trees
Trees suitable for logging appear throughout Pywel. Unlike ore and crystal deposits, which cluster in specific geological formations, trees grow in forests, along roads, near rivers, and around settlements. There is no particular region that produces better wood. Any tree you encounter can be chopped for Timber and Fine Timber.

Flawless Timber is a rarer drop that appears less frequently. It is used for higher-tier wooden shield refinements at the Blacksmith.
Tips
Trees respawn after a period of time, so you can revisit the same forest to farm Timber repeatedly.
Felling trees near Hernand is the most convenient option early in the game since the Provisioner's Shop is right there.
The Logging Axe has durability and will degrade with use. Keep a spare or repair it before long gathering sessions.
Both Timber and Fine Timber drop from every tree. You do not need to seek out special trees for Fine Timber.
If you are primarily a melee player using a wooden shield, stock up on wood materials early. Shield refinements consume a fair amount of Timber.
