Overview
The Golden Carp is a rare legendary fish found in the Pailune region of Crimson Desert. It is a golden variant of the common Carp, distinguished by its shimmering scales and much higher value. Like all legendary fish, the Golden Carp sells for approximately 10 silver, placing it among the most lucrative catches in the game.
Where to Catch
The Golden Carp is found on a small lake located to the east of the Argent Peaks in the Pailune region. Pailune is the cold, mountainous northwestern region of Pywel, so players should prepare for challenging terrain when traveling to this fishing spot. The lake is relatively secluded, and reaching it may require navigating mountain paths. Once the species is registered in the Knowledge Codex, its location appears on the map for future reference.
Uses
Selling: Sells for approximately 10 silver at any vendor. One of the best fish to catch purely for profit.
Cooking: Can be cleaned into Fish Fillet for cooking recipes that restore health and stamina.
Knowledge: Registers a Knowledge Codex entry in the Bestiary under Aquatic Animals.
Tips
Pailune's mountains are cold and potentially dangerous. Bring adequate supplies and watch for hostile wildlife like moose and bears.
The Argent Peaks are a notable landmark in Pailune, making the lake relatively easy to locate once you are in the region.
Legendary fish put up a strong fight when hooked. Use the upgraded Fine Fishing Rod for an easier time reeling them in.
Pick Up Without Fishing
The Golden Carp can be collected directly from the Pailune lake without using a fishing rod at all. Fast travel to the nearby marker, run down to the shoreline, and jump into the water. The Golden Carp is large and brightly golden against the dark lake bed, so it is visible from a long way off while swimming. Swim over to it and use the interact prompt to pick it up as a world item. No rod, no bait, no reel minigame.
This bypass matters because the Golden Carp is both a high-silver sell item and an instant-tame food for cats, and the lake respawns the fish on a short cycle. A single swim loop to the spot and back is much faster than setting up an actual fishing session.
Use as Pet Taming Food
Golden Carp is one of the four legendary fish that grant +100 trust when fed to a stray cat. Because cats start every interaction session at 0 trust, a single Golden Carp is enough to take any cat from zero to the 100-trust registration threshold in one feed, skipping the normal two-day cat grind. Drop the fish on the ground near the target cat (raw fish do not have a Take Out option, so discard from the inventory instead), wait for the cat to eat, then pick it up and select Take In.
The other legendary cat foods in this tier are Golden Tench, Coelacanth, and Clockwork Fish, but Golden Carp is the easiest to stockpile because of the pickup-from-water trick above. See Pet Taming Guide for the full feeding mechanics and White Cat for the unique Pororin Village cat that benefits most obviously from one-feed taming.
Patch 1.04: Cat Pet Taming Use
Patch 1.04 added new cat pets to the game, most notably the Abyss Heuklang, a dark-furred feline found inside the Axion Archive on the first Abyss island above Hernand. These abyss cats use the same trust-based taming system as other stray cats, and the Golden Carp remains the fastest item in the game for locking in a successful capture. A single Golden Carp fed to an abyss cat grants +100 trust in one bite, which is enough to fully tame it immediately.
This matters most when the default interaction prompt does not auto-appear on a new abyss cat. Some players can simply walk up to the Abyss Heuklang and take it in right away, but others report the prompt failing to show up on the first try. When that happens, dropping a Golden Carp on the ground near the cat forces its trust value straight to the maximum in a single feed, after which the Take In option becomes reliable. The one-bite trust bonus also applies to any of the other new cat pets added in 1.04, not just the Abyss Heuklang, so a small Golden Carp stockpile covers every cat species the update introduced.
Pailune Golden Carp Spawn
A reliable Golden Carp spawn sits on the lake just south of the Pea Ladder in Pailune. The lake is close enough to the ladder that a single fast-travel and short walk puts you in fishing range, and the Golden Carp respawns on a short cycle so repeat visits are worthwhile. Because the same fish is usable both for high-silver sale and for one-bite cat taming, keeping this spawn on rotation pays off whether the next goal is funding camp upgrades or picking up a new pet.
Instant Cat Tame Use
The Golden Carp is a legendary fish that, when placed on the ground near a cat, fully tames it in a single interaction. This bypasses the normal trust-feeding loop entirely. Rather than hitting the daily five-interaction cap across two in-game days, a single Golden Carp drops the target's trust score from zero to the 100 registration threshold in one bite, after which the Take In prompt becomes immediately available.
That makes the Golden Carp the fastest practical method for collecting any specific cat or kitten variant in the game. If the goal is a particular Kitten spawn near the pots in the back of Pororin Village, a rare roaming Pororin Cat, or any of the newer cat variants added with the pet update, a small stockpile of Golden Carp turns every fresh spawn into a one-feed capture. This is especially useful when a desired cat is in a hostile area or on a long respawn timer, since it removes the need to return the next in-game day.
The workflow is the same as any other cat food. Approach the cat, discard the Golden Carp from the inventory so it lands on the ground beside the target (legendary fish do not have a Take Out option from the hotbar), wait for the cat to walk over and eat, then pick up the cat directly with the Take In prompt. No petting, no preferred-food rotation, and no daily-limit wait: one fish, one cat.
For the full trust mechanic and the standard preferred-food options, see Companion Trust and the Pet Taming Guide. The broader Companions and Pets articles cover how tamed cats behave once they are on the roster, and the Companion Affection Guide covers post-taming bonuses. Players who have not yet unlocked the location of this fish should also check Sighting of the Golden Carp for the related sighting entry in the Knowledge Codex.
