Overview
Pistols are one-handed ranged weapons in Crimson Desert that occupy the dedicated ranged weapon slot in the six-slot loadout system. They offer the fastest firing option among all ranged weapons, designed for players who want to weave gunfire into their melee combat without committing to a stationary firing stance.
The pistol's defining characteristic is its fluidity. Players can fire off quick shots while dodging, rolling between reloads, and maintaining full combat mobility. This makes pistols the preferred ranged option for aggressive players who treat gunfire as an extension of their melee combo chains rather than a separate combat mode.
Combat Style
Pistol combat revolves around quick, opportunistic shots fired during gaps in melee engagement. After finishing a sword combo, the player can seamlessly switch to the pistol, fire one or two shots at a retreating enemy, then switch back to melee as the next threat closes in. This weapon-switching flow is near-instantaneous, with no significant transition animation.
The pistol supports two firing modes. Standard shots are fired quickly with moderate accuracy and deal consistent damage at medium range. Charged shots require the player to stand still briefly for a more powerful, precise hit that deals increased damage. The choice between mobility and damage output creates moment-to-moment tactical decisions during combat.
Reloading is the pistol's main vulnerability. After emptying the chamber, the player must reload before firing again. However, the reload animation is shorter than those of rifles or hand cannons, and players can dodge-cancel during the reload to avoid incoming attacks.

Acquisition and Upgrading
Pistols are available from weapon vendors in major towns and can be found as loot throughout Pywel. Refinement at a Blacksmith increases base attack values, while Abyss Gear augments can enhance reload speed, increase charged shot damage, or add elemental effects to each bullet.
Recommended Playstyle
Pistols shine when used as a supplement to melee combat rather than the primary damage source. The best approach is to keep a sword or other melee weapon as the main damage dealer and switch to the pistol during natural combat pauses: after a dodge roll, when an enemy retreats out of melee range, or to finish off a low-health target without chasing them down.
Players who prefer a ranged-heavy approach should consider bows or rifles instead, as those weapons deal higher damage per shot and have better effective range.
