Overview
Muskets are ranged firearms in Crimson Desert that deliver powerful single shots at long range. They are slow-firing weapons with lengthy reload times, but each round hits hard enough to justify the wait. Muskets reward patience and careful positioning; a well-placed shot can drop weaker enemies outright or chunk a significant portion of a tougher opponent's health bar.
Muskets are closely related to rifles and the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably in Pywel. Both fall under the broader category of ranged weapons. The key distinction in practice is that the muskets available in the game tend to emphasize critical hit bonuses, while the rifle category focuses on raw per-shot damage and charged-shot mechanics. Several muskets exist as one-handed firearms that can be paired with a shield or a secondary weapon, while rifles are strictly two-handed.
Damiane is the most natural musket user among the playable characters. Her ranged combat style pairs well with the musket's high critical potential, and several muskets are exclusive to her. Kliff can also equip one-handed muskets, pairing them with shields or melee weapons for a hybrid loadout.
Combat Style
Musket combat follows a deliberate rhythm: aim, fire, reposition during the reload, then aim again. Players cannot sprint or dodge while firing, so choosing the right moment to pull the trigger is essential. Missing a shot means wasting both the bullet and the lengthy reload window.
Most muskets support two firing modes. A standard shot fires relatively quickly with moderate accuracy. A charged shot requires the player to hold the aim for a few seconds, restricting movement further, but the resulting hit deals significantly more damage. The charged shot is the musket's signature move and the reason many players pick up the weapon in the first place.
Muskets pair naturally with melee weapons in a switch-heavy playstyle. Open an engagement with a charged shot to soften or eliminate the strongest target, then swap to a sword, rapier, or spear for the close-quarters fight that follows. This approach takes full advantage of the musket's burst damage without exposing the player to its slow reload during chaotic melee.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
Damage per Shot | Very high; charged shots can eliminate weaker enemies in a single hit |
Critical Hit Potential | Most muskets carry innate Critical Rate bonuses at Level 1 or Level 2 |
Range | Long effective range; accurate at distances where pistols lose precision |
Reload Time | Slow; the longest reload of any one-handed ranged option |
Mobility | Restricted movement while aiming; stationary during charged shots |
Close Combat | Poor; nearly useless if enemies close to melee range |
All Muskets
The following table lists every musket currently available in Crimson Desert, along with base stats and notable bonuses. Attack Power values shown are base (unrefined). All muskets can be further improved through the Refining System at a Blacksmith and customized with Abyss Cores.
Damiane Muskets
These muskets are two-handed firearms primarily wielded by Damiane. They offer higher base Attack Power and are designed for dedicated ranged combat at long distances.
Musket | Attack Power | How to Obtain | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
14 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | 5 | Equipment Shops; originates from the Pailune region | |
14 | Lv. 1 | Lv. 1 | 5 | ||
14 | Lv. 0 | Lv. 2 | 5 | Crafted at Blacksmith (Iron Ore x7, Copper Ore x2); requires Ranged Weapons of the World: Guns, Vol. II | |
12 | Lv. 0 | Lv. 2 | 5 | Equipment Shops or enemy drops | |
Unique | N/A | N/A | N/A | Dropped by Samara, the Sandwatcher (boss) in the northern Golden Plains |
One-Handed Muskets
One-handed muskets leave the off-hand slot free, allowing the wielder to pair them with a shield for added defense or a secondary weapon. These are available to Kliff and provide a ranged option without giving up melee flexibility.

Comparison with Other Ranged Weapons

Slow | High | Low | Opening shots, critical-focused burst damage | |
Slow | Very High | Low | Long-range precision, charged single-target damage | |
Fast | Moderate | High | Mid-combat quick shots, combo extension | |
Medium | Moderate | High | Versatile ranged combat, multiple arrow types | |
Slow | Highest | Low | Area-of-effect explosive damage |
Acquisition and Upgrading
Muskets can be obtained through several methods. Equipment Shops in larger towns stock common muskets for direct purchase. Gunner-type enemies throughout Pywel occasionally drop muskets as loot. Military supply crates found in forts and outposts may also contain them.
Certain muskets require crafting at a Blacksmith. To unlock musket crafting recipes, the player must first find and read the corresponding crafting manual. For example, the Wells Musket requires the Ranged Weapons of the World: Guns, Vol. II manual. Once learned, the recipe stays unlocked permanently.
The Gustav Musket is unique among muskets. It drops from Samara, the Sandwatcher, an optional boss found at a fortress in the northern Golden Plains of the Demeniss region. This is the only musket obtained through a boss encounter.
All muskets (except the Gustav Musket) can be refined at a Blacksmith up to +10, increasing their base Attack Power with each level. Refinement requires materials and silver, with costs scaling at higher levels. Abyss Cores can be socketed into available slots to add bonus effects such as increased critical damage, elemental properties, or attack speed.
Recommended Playstyle
For Damiane, the musket works best in a Gunslinger or Heavy Vanguard build. The Gunslinger setup pairs a pistol with a musket, keeping Damiane at range full-time: use the pistol for mobile mid-range shots and switch to the musket for high-damage openings or finishing blows against distant targets. The Heavy Vanguard approach combines a greatsword with a musket, using the firearm to soften groups before wading into melee.
For Kliff, one-handed muskets serve as a ranged supplement to his primary melee loadout. Pairing a musket with a shield gives Kliff a way to poke at distant enemies without fully committing to ranged combat. The one-handed musket is slower than the bow, but its higher per-shot damage and critical hit bonuses make it appealing for players who want fewer, harder-hitting ranged attacks.
Regardless of character, the core musket strategy stays the same: keep your distance, line up your shots, and switch to a faster weapon when enemies close the gap. The musket punishes greedy play but rewards discipline with some of the highest burst damage available at range.
Ammunition
Muskets consume Bullets as ammunition. Bullets are crafted from Iron Ore and Gunpowder. Players should keep a healthy stock before venturing into dangerous areas, since running out of ammunition forces the musket user to rely entirely on melee. Bullets are shared across all firearm types (muskets, pistols, and hand cannons), so managing your supply matters if you carry multiple firearms.
Musket Grades
Grade | Description |
|---|---|

Rare+ | Above-average weapons sitting between Rare and Epic tiers. Obtained from mid-level quests, specialized merchants, and challenging enemy encounters. |
Rare | Solid mid-game weapons. Easily obtained from merchants, crafting, or basic quest rewards. |
Uncommon | Basic starter weapons. Often the first muskets players encounter. Useful for the opening hours but quickly outclassed. |
