Overview
Pistols are one-handed ranged weapons in Crimson Desert that occupy the dedicated ranged weapon slot in the six-slot loadout system. They offer the fastest firing option among all ranged weapons, designed for players who want to weave gunfire into their melee combat without committing to a stationary firing stance.

The pistol's defining characteristic is its fluidity. Players can fire off quick shots while dodging, rolling between reloads, and maintaining full combat mobility. This makes pistols the preferred ranged option for aggressive players who treat gunfire as an extension of their melee combo chains rather than a separate combat mode.
Combat Style
Pistol combat revolves around quick, opportunistic shots fired during gaps in melee engagement. After finishing a sword combo, the player can seamlessly switch to the pistol, fire one or two shots at a retreating enemy, then switch back to melee as the next threat closes in. This weapon-switching flow is near-instantaneous, with no significant transition animation.
Earlier firing advice described quick standard shots with moderate accuracy at medium range and a brief stationary charge for a stronger precise shot. Patch 1.16.00 explicitly allows Charged Shot while running with a ranged weapon equipped. The earlier advice was to weigh mobility against damage during combat; keep that recommendation separate from assuming every old reload, damage or timing comparison has been remeasured.
Reloading is the pistol's main vulnerability. After emptying the chamber, the player must reload before firing again. However, the reload animation is shorter than those of rifles or hand cannons, and players can dodge-cancel during the reload to avoid incoming attacks.

Comparison With Other Ranged Weapons
Weapon | Speed | Damage | Mobility | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Pistol | Fast | Moderate | High | Mid-combat quick shots |
Rifle | Slow | Very High | Low | Long-range precision |
Slow | Highest | Low | AoE explosive damage | |
Bow | Medium | Moderate | High | Versatile ranged combat |
Acquisition and Upgrading
Pistols are available from weapon vendors in major towns and can be found as loot throughout Pywel. Refinement at a Blacksmith increases base attack values, while Abyss Gear augments can enhance reload speed, increase charged shot damage, or add elemental effects to each bullet.

Recommended Playstyle
Pistols shine when used as a supplement to melee combat rather than the primary damage source. The best approach is to keep a sword or other melee weapon as the main damage dealer and switch to the pistol during natural combat pauses: after a dodge roll, when an enemy retreats out of melee range, or to finish off a low-health target without chasing them down.
Players who prefer a ranged-heavy approach should consider bows or rifles instead, as those weapons deal higher damage per shot and have better effective range.
All Pistols
The earlier roster below records seven named pistols, arranged by its grade and attack fields. It is not a newly verified count of every current pistol.

Pistol Grades
Grade | Description |
|---|---|
Mythic | The rarest and most powerful pistols. Often tied to major story events or legendary figures. Extremely difficult to obtain. |
Epic | Strong mid-to-high tier pistols. Available through quests, merchants, and exploration throughout Pywel. |
Rare+ | Above-average weapons sitting between Rare and Epic tiers. Obtained from mid-level quests, specialized merchants, and challenging enemy encounters. |
Rare | Solid mid-game weapons. Easily obtained from merchants, crafting, or basic quest rewards. |
Uncommon | Basic starter weapons. Often the first pistols players encounter. Useful for the opening hours but quickly outclassed. |
Enhancement
The earlier roster says all seven listed pistols refine from +0 to +10 through the refining system. The named Jemel Pistol record independently lists an Attack increase from 12 at +0 to 36 at +10. Earlier notes list rarer enhancement materials including Bloodstone, Scolecite Ore, and Abyss Artifacts; the single Jemel example is not a complete current audit of every listed weapon or its recipe.
Firing While Sliding (Patch 1.13.00)
The Patch 1.13.00 notes, dated July 3, 2026 UTC, explicitly allow pistols to fire while sliding, matching the change for muskets. The older page used July 4; the note header alone does not establish one rollout date for every platform or region.
