Overview
House Wells is the ducal house that governs the southern reaches of the Demeniss region in Crimson Desert. As one of the most powerful noble families in the Kingdom of Demeniss, House Wells swears its loyalty to House Thorel, the ruling royal family. They openly oppose the forces of Caliburn and Lucian Bastier, who seized control of the kingdom by force after King Edward fell into a mysterious coma. House Wells possesses both the military strength and the political legitimacy to ignite a full-scale civil war, though Bastier has managed to suppress them through intimidation and underhanded tactics.
The House Wells quest line is part of the faction quest system in Crimson Desert. Faction quests are optional side quests tied to specific factions across Pywel. Completing them earns experience, advances the faction storyline, and contributes to the broader political narrative in the Demeniss region. Unlike main story quests, faction quests are non-missable and can be returned to even across chapters, so there is no risk of permanently locking yourself out of the House Wells content.
Faction Background
Demeniss serves as the military and political heart of Pywel. Before the king's coma, the noble houses operated under the centralized authority of House Thorel. With the power vacuum left by the absent king, the houses have fractured into competing factions. House Wells stands on the loyalist side of this divide, maintaining their allegiance to the crown while resisting the authoritarian rule imposed by Grand General Bastier and his Inquisitors.
Several noble houses shape the political landscape of Demeniss. House Byron operates the "Eyes of Demeniss" intelligence network and wields influence reaching as far as Pailune. House Azerian, the count's house of Demeniss, has positioned itself as a reformist force opposing corruption. House Marshell, known as Bastier's "Black Strongbox," supports the Grand General and wields deep influence in kingdom politics. House Elemore, a wealthy count's house, maintains a close friendship with House Azerian, strengthening the anti-Bastier coalition.
House Wells occupies a unique position in this web of rivalries. As a ducal house (outranking the various count's houses), they possess considerable territory and military resources in the south. Their open opposition to Bastier makes them a natural ally for the resistance, and during Chapter 8 of the main story, Countess Azerian actively seeks to recruit Duke Wells into the fight against Bastier's forces.

How to Unlock
The Demeniss region remains hostile territory until the end of Chapter 7. Once you begin Chapter 8: The Blood Coronation, the main story brings you into the Kingdom of Demeniss and the region becomes fully explorable. At that point, you can travel freely through southern Demeniss where House Wells holds their territory.
Faction quests in Crimson Desert are accessed through notice boards located at faction strongholds. To receive quests from House Wells, you need at least a neutral reputation with the faction. If your standing has dropped below neutral (for example, by attacking House Wells members or completing quests for rival factions), you will need to raise it back to neutral before the notice board will offer new quests.
The five-tier reputation scale in Crimson Desert works as follows: War, Hostile, Neutral, Friendly, and Alliance. Your starting reputation with most factions is Neutral, so unless you have taken hostile actions against House Wells, you should be able to pick up their quests as soon as you reach the Demeniss region in Chapter 8.
Reputation Tiers
Tier | Standing | Effect |
|---|---|---|
War | Actively hostile | Faction members attack on sight. No quests or services available. |
Hostile | Distrusted | Limited access to faction territory. No quests available. |
Neutral | Default standing | Faction quests available from notice boards. Basic services accessible. |
Friendly | Trusted ally | Additional services and vendor options unlocked. |
Alliance | Formal alliance | Full access to faction content, exclusive rewards, and equipment. |
Quest List
The House Wells faction quest line is one of the smaller faction pools in Crimson Desert compared to major quest chains like House Roberts Quests (ten quests across three arcs) or the Hernand Commissions (over a dozen individual tasks). The table below lists the currently documented quest associated with House Wells.
Quest | Location | Key Objective | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
Deathchime | Southern Demeniss (House Wells territory) | Investigate a matter that has drawn the attention of the Duke's household | No confirmed material rewards; advances House Wells faction storyline |
Additional House Wells quests may exist or become available through future updates. The Demeniss region contains a large number of faction quests spread across multiple houses and organizations, and guide coverage for the region continues to expand as players explore its content.
Deathchime
Deathchime is the known faction quest associated with House Wells. The quest falls under the Demeniss Politics subcategory, a group of quests focused on the power struggles within the Kingdom of Demeniss. With King Edward lying in a coma and no designated heir, the noble houses of Demeniss are vying for control, and the Deathchime quest places Kliff in the middle of these inter-faction disputes.
The quest involves investigating a matter connected to Duke Wells and his household. Given House Wells's open opposition to Bastier and their potential to trigger a civil war, the stakes of this quest tie directly into the broader Demeniss political narrative. The investigation may involve interactions with other factions in the region, as the political web connecting the Demeniss noble houses means that actions taken for one house often ripple outward to affect relationships with others.

Story Progression: The Deathchime quest advances the House Wells faction storyline and contributes to the political narrative of Demeniss. For players interested in the lore surrounding the kingdom's civil conflict, this quest line provides context for the rivalry between the loyalist houses and Bastier's forces.
Political Context
Understanding the Demeniss political landscape helps contextualize the House Wells quest line. The Kingdom of Demeniss is ruled (in name) by House Thorel, but King Edward's coma has created a power vacuum that the noble houses are scrambling to fill. The central conflict divides the houses into two broad camps.
On one side stands Grand General Lucian Bastier and his allies. Bastier has effectively seized control of the kingdom through military force, using his Inquisitors to maintain order and suppress dissent. House Marshell serves as his primary political backer, described as his "Black Strongbox" with deep influence in kingdom politics.
On the other side stands the loyalist coalition. House Wells, as a ducal house with significant military resources, forms the backbone of this opposition. House Azerian, the count's house of Demeniss, has openly opposed Bastier and positioned itself as a reformist force. During Chapter 8, Countess Azerian actively seeks to recruit Duke Wells into a united front against Bastier. House Elemore, a wealthy ally of House Azerian, adds economic weight to the anti-Bastier coalition.
The Greymanes, led by Kliff, enter this political arena as outsiders. As mercenaries with no pre-existing allegiance to any Demeniss faction, the Greymanes can serve as kingmakers or disruptors depending on the player's choices. The House Wells quest line provides one avenue for engaging with this factional conflict.

The following table summarizes the major noble houses operating in Demeniss and their political positions. This context is useful for understanding how House Wells fits into the broader power structure.

House Azerian | Count's house | Reformist faction opposing Bastier. Countess Azerian recruits allies (including Duke Wells) during Chapter 8. |
Count's house | Operates the "Eyes of Demeniss" intelligence network. Influence extends to Pailune. | |
House Marshell | Count's house | Bastier's primary political supporter. Known as his "Black Strongbox" with deep influence in kingdom politics. |
Count's house | Wealthy house allied with House Azerian. Adds economic strength to the anti-Bastier coalition. |
Comparison with Other Faction Quest Lines
Crimson Desert features over a dozen distinct faction quest pools. The House Wells quest line is currently one of the smaller pools, but the political weight of the faction makes it notable within the Demeniss region. For comparison, here is how other major faction quest lines stack up.

Tips
Complete the main story through Chapter 7 before attempting to access House Wells content. The Demeniss region is hostile until Chapter 8 begins.
Avoid attacking House Wells members or their allies in southern Demeniss. Hostile actions lower your faction reputation, and dropping below Neutral locks you out of their notice board quests.
Pay attention to how your actions with other Demeniss factions affect your standing with House Wells. Favoring one house may reduce your reputation with rival factions.
Faction quests in Crimson Desert are non-missable. If you pass one up or want to come back later, the quest will still be available regardless of which chapter you are on.
Build your Demeniss Contribution through quests, bounties, and daily donations to beggars. Higher Contribution unlocks items from the Demeniss Contribution Shop, including ceremonial armor and prestige accessories.
Listen to NPC dialogue in the Demeniss court for additional context about House Wells, their rivalry with Bastier, and the political situation in southern Demeniss.
Consider completing House Wells quests alongside the Chapter 8 main story quests. The political themes overlap, and doing both at the same time provides a richer understanding of the Demeniss conflict.
The faction reputation system does not affect the main story ending, but it does influence which areas are accessible, which NPCs are hostile or friendly, what services are available, and which side quests you can undertake.
