Overview

The Kinetic Counterweight (also listed as Kinetic Art - Counterweight) is a collectible item in Crimson Desert. It is described as an artwork where movement and balance exist in harmony. Structures crafted from various materials move within the piece, creating scenes where light and shadow merge together, allowing the viewer to feel vitality within the space itself.

Players receive the Kinetic Counterweight as a reward for completing the Close Threat subquest, which is the final stage of the Extinguishing the Last Flames faction questline for the Goldleaf Merchant Guild. This questline takes place in the Hernand region and involves investigating a traitor who has been leaking trade route information to bandits.

Uses

Like all collectibles in Crimson Desert, the Kinetic Counterweight serves two primary purposes:

Home Decoration

The Kinetic Counterweight can be placed inside Kliff's personal quarters at Greymane Camp. Once placed, the item appears as a 3D model on shelves, tables, or walls. Decorating the camp is purely cosmetic and does not affect gameplay stats, but it provides a visual record of exploration and quest progress.

NPC Gifting

The Kinetic Counterweight can be gifted to NPCs to increase their trust level. To gift a collectible, interact with the NPC and select the gift option from the dialogue menu. Higher trust with NPCs may lower item costs when buying from vendors, or grant access to new quests and requests. Note that gifting a collectible consumes the item permanently, so choose carefully whether to display it at camp or use it for trust building.

Selling

The Kinetic Counterweight can be sold for 26.6 Silver Coins. Because it is an early-game reward that provides a meaningful amount of currency, some players choose to sell it to help fund other purchases. However, it is generally recommended to keep collectibles for decoration or gifting rather than selling them, since trust bonuses and home customization offer better long-term value.

How to Obtain

The Kinetic Counterweight is awarded upon completing the Close Threat subquest, the final part of the Extinguishing the Last Flames faction questline. This questline is given by Shakatu, the leader of the Goldleaf Merchant Guild, and involves uncovering a traitor within the guild who has been leaking trade routes to bandits.

Questline Structure

The Extinguishing the Last Flames questline consists of multiple subquests. First, you must speak with Shakatu at the Goldleaf Guildhouse and follow him to trigger a cutscene (the "Troubled Shakatu" subquest). After that, you investigate five guild members across several locations in the Hernand region. Finally, in the Close Threat subquest, you present your evidence to Shakatu, identify the traitor, and apprehend them.

Investigation: Gathering Evidence

After the initial meeting with Shakatu, you are tasked with investigating five guild members. Each suspect has three pieces of evidence at their workstation that you must examine. You can visit the suspects in any order.

After collecting evidence from all five suspects, return to Shakatu at the Goldleaf Guildhouse. He will ask you to match each witness testimony with the correct piece of evidence. The following table lists the correct answers:

If you select the wrong evidence for a testimony, you can retry the submission. There is no penalty for incorrect guesses during this phase.

Capturing the Traitor

After presenting all five correct answers, the evidence points to Grimzle as the traitor of the Goldleaf Merchant Guild. Shakatu will send you to apprehend him.

Travel to Grimzle's residence near the Coalvale Workshop. You will find him at the back of his property in the middle of a transaction. A cutscene plays, after which you must tackle and restrain Grimzle. Hit him once to trigger his confession, then tie him up and carry him to your horse. Ride back to the Goldleaf Guildhouse and deliver Grimzle to Shakatu to complete the quest.

Quest Rewards

Upon delivering Grimzle to Shakatu and completing the Close Threat quest, you receive the following rewards:

The Hernandian Banquet Cloak is an equipment piece, while the Kinetic Counterweight is a collectible that can be decorated, gifted, or sold as described above. The Hernand Contribution EXP increases your standing in the Hernand region, which can unlock additional faction rewards and vendor discounts.

Tips

• Consider keeping the Kinetic Counterweight rather than selling it. While 26.6 Silver Coins is helpful early on, the trust bonuses from gifting or the visual customization from decorating your camp offer more lasting value.

• You can complete the investigation subquests for each NPC (Nogle, Skrav, Kathan, Blique, Grimzle) in any order. There is no required sequence.

• When searching for evidence at each suspect's location, look carefully around furniture, crates, shelves, and nearby objects. Evidence items glow when you are close enough to interact with them.

• The Extinguishing the Last Flames questline becomes available after progressing through the main story far enough to access the Goldleaf Guildhouse in the Hernand region.

• If you plan to sell collectibles, the Kinetic Counterweight is one of the more valuable ones at 26.6 Silver Coins, but it is not repeatable. Weigh your options before committing.
