Overview
Roofs is the pieces that close the top of a structure and satisfy the Roof requirement for every craft station that needs shelter. Windrose offers 58 roof pieces across two pitches (26 degrees flat and 45 degrees peaked) in leaf, straw, plank, timber, weathered, log, ceramic tile, and stone variants.
Roof Sub-Groups
Group | Count | Role |
|---|---|---|
Roofs 26°: Flats | 29 | Low-pitch roof tiles used for flat-roofed cabins, verandas, and estate porch extensions. |
Roofs 45°: All pieces | 6+ | High-pitch peaked roof pieces: roof, roof cap, fronton, and corners in matching material sets. |
Roof Caps | 9 | Ridge pieces that cap the peak line of a pitched roof. |
Roof Corners (Up / Down) | 19 | Corner pieces that join two roof slopes at an outside or inside 90-degree intersection. |
Roof Frontons | 4 | Gable-end triangular wall pieces that fill the triangular hole under a 45-degree roof. |
Roof Cap Frontons | 5+6 | Specialty corner caps where fronton meets ridge on peaked roofs. |
Roof Tri-Corners (Up / Down) | 8 | Three-way corner pieces for complex roof junctions and L-shaped buildings. |
Roof Pitches
Every roof piece is keyed to either a 26-degree pitch (flat roofs) or a 45-degree pitch (peaked roofs). Matching angle pieces (roof caps, frontons, corners) cannot be mixed between pitches. Decide the pitch at the start of a build; a mixed-pitch roof will leave unavoidable gaps.
Material Variants
Roofs unlock in four broad material groups matched to the rest of the base-building set:
Material | Group | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Leaves | Tier 1 | Cheapest roofing made from Plant Fiber; 750 HP; automatically unlocked. |
Straw | Tier 2 | Slightly more durable; Plant Fiber and Wood mix; 1,000 HP. |
Sticks / Planks / Weathered | Tier 3 | Wooden roofing in multiple visual styles; 1,000-1,500 HP. |
Mahogany / Tile / Stone | Tier 4-5 | Estate-tier roofing; 1,500-2,500 HP; requires plan drops from Points of Interest. |
The Roof Requirement
Several craft stations and all three NPC merchants require a Roof overhead to function. A single roof cap placed above the station's hologram satisfies this check. The roof does not need to be a full building: a single 1x1 roof piece over an open-sided station is enough.
Stations that specifically require a roof include every Merchant, the Workbench, the Armor and Clothing Workshop, and the Shoemaker's Bench. Some outdoor-only stations (Bonfire, Cooking Fire, Seedbed) reject a roof and will fail to place underneath one.
Tips
Leaf and Straw roofs are cheap but flag the building as temporary-looking. Upgrade to Planks or Tile before inviting guests for the Building Contest.
Roof Caps and Frontons are sold as separate pieces for a reason: placing a flat roof without a cap leaves a visible seam along the ridge. Budget two extra cap pieces per peaked roof.
45-degree peaked roofs look better over narrow buildings (2-3 tiles wide). Wider rooms look cleaner with 26-degree flat roofs.
Roof pieces snap to both floors below and walls below. The easier path is to build the walls first, then place roofs on top, rather than mid-air roof placement.
Large roof pieces cost more but provide larger shelter coverage with a single HP pool, which makes them more durable under attack.
