Bench Upgrades via Attachments
The Alchemy Table is upgraded the same way every other crafting station in Windrose is upgraded: attachments placed inside its vicinity circle. There is no higher-tier alchemy table to craft. The base table stays the same physical structure from unlock to endgame; the four upgrade items (Stove and Pot, Distiller, Reagent Table, and Vial Table) sit around it and raise its tier one step at a time. When you pick up an attachment in build mode and hover it near the Alchemy Table, a white circle appears on the ground centred on the table. Drop the attachment anywhere inside that circle to bond it to the parent. Drop it outside and the attachment is purely decorative.
While placing an attachment, the Alchemy Table shows a small green plus icon that cycles through the new recipes the attachment will unlock. For the Alchemy Table, this usually means new Elixir variants, longer-duration potions, and specialty healing items. You can preview the icons before committing materials.
Upgrade Ordering
Stove and Pot: cheapest attachment and the first one most players build. Unlocks the basic elixirs once you have at least one source of rare alchemy ingredients.
Distiller: gates the buff-heavy elixirs used for boss fights (Concentration, Cruelty, Firm Hand, Precision).
Reagent Table: the end-game attachment. Unlocks the longest-duration and most expensive elixirs, plus late-game utility potions. Gated behind foothills-tier resources (Hardwood, Silver Ingot, Sulfur, Ironware).
Because attachments can be dismantled with a full 100% refund, you can test an expensive upgrade, confirm the recipe unlock you wanted, and dismantle it later if you decide to relocate. The Reagent Table in particular uses rare materials, so watch the green plus icons carefully before placing.
Elixirs as the Third Buff Slot
The Alchemy Table is not just a potion station. It is the game's source of elixirs, a third-slot buff that stacks on top of the two food buffs from the Cooking Fire. Food buffs are paired two at a time. Elixirs add a third buff window that sits independently, which means a well-prepared pre-combat stack can have two food buffs plus one elixir active at the same moment when a boss fight starts.
The practical consequence: always treat the Alchemy Table as the final stop before a boss or a difficult ruin run. Craft two compatible food buffs at the cooking fire, then drink the elixir matching your build (Firm Hand for melee damage, Precision for ranged, Cruelty for general output, Pain Relief for defensive survivability) immediately before engaging. The elixir's timer does not tick down while inside menus, so there is no rush once it is drunk.
Common Pre-Fight Elixir Choices
Elixir of Firm Hand: for melee builds using cutlass, rapier, or axe. Stacks with melee-damage food buffs for a very high opening burst.
Elixir of Precision: for ranged builds using muskets, blunderbuss, or bows. Pairs well with food buffs that raise ranged critical chance.
Elixir of Pain Relief: defensive choice. Use this if the fight has a gimmick that punishes damage taken (crocodile encounters, bomb waves, boss phase transitions).
Elixir of Concentration: critical damage booster. Best paired with a high-crit weapon and a food buff for crit chance.
Elixir of Cruelty: general damage boost. Works on any build, good default choice if you are undecided.
Placement in the Main Base
The Alchemy Table requires a roof. The community build tutorial recommends placing it inside the main covered room of your base, ideally close to the main door. The reason is pre-combat flow: every boss run starts with a trip to the Alchemy Table for elixirs, then a fast-travel pull out to the objective. Putting it right next to the door saves dozens of seconds per run and avoids the need to zigzag through the middle of the room while your cooking buffs tick down.
Pair the Alchemy Table with the Millstones immediately next to it. Many mid-to-late alchemy recipes require powdered inputs (ash, cornmeal, bone meal) that the Millstones produce. Running them side by side lets you grind and brew in a single stationary pass without walking back and forth.
Because the Alchemy Table does not require line-of-sight to attachments, only shared Bonfire radius and the vicinity circle, you can tuck the Stove and Pot, Distiller, and Reagent Table behind it against the back wall. The tutorial author specifically recommends keeping all the ugly mechanical attachments along a back foundation strip so they do not dominate the room's aesthetic.
