Overview
Placing blocks directly underneath your character in Pokemon Pokopia is a useful building technique that lets you stack upward, elevate yourself to higher ground, and escape holes or ditches. The game does not have a dedicated "build underneath" button, but you can accomplish this by angling the camera correctly. This guide explains the exact technique.
How to Do It
Step 1: Equip Building Blocks
Make sure you have building blocks in your hand. You can select them from your inventory or switch to them using the Handy Bag toolbar if you have blocks assigned there.
Step 2: Aim the Camera Upward
Tilt the camera upward (raise the view above Ditto) until the block placement target outline appears on the same tile space your character is standing on. The key is to raise the camera angle enough that the targeting system snaps to the ground directly beneath your feet rather than to a tile in front of you.
Step 3: Press A to Place
Once the target outline is positioned on your character's current space, press A to place the block. The block will appear underneath you, lifting your character up by one level. Repeat the process to continue stacking upward.

Practical Uses
Escaping Holes and Ditches
The most common use for this technique is getting out of holes you have dug or fallen into. If you excavated too deep and cannot jump out, stacking blocks beneath yourself one at a time will raise you back up to ground level. This pairs with the How to Get Unstuck guide as one of the primary escape methods.
Reaching Elevated Areas
You can use this technique to reach elevated terrain, cliffs, or platforms that you cannot reach by jumping alone. Stack blocks until you are at the same height as the target area, then walk off onto it.
Building Tall Structures
When constructing tall buildings or structures, stacking blocks beneath yourself is the simplest way to gain elevation for placing upper-level walls and roofing without building a separate staircase or ramp.
Tips
Keep a stack of common building blocks in your Handy Bag at all times. You never know when you might need to stack out of a bad situation.
The camera angle takes a little practice to get right. If the target outline keeps appearing in front of you rather than beneath you, tilt the camera higher.
You can remove the blocks afterward by switching to a destruction tool and breaking them, so do not worry about leaving a pillar of blocks behind.
This technique works with any type of building block, including Lumber Blocks, Stone Blocks, and decorative blocks.
Combine this with the Jump move to cover vertical distances more quickly. Stack a few blocks, jump, then stack more from the new height.
