The Jindo is a dog breed that can be registered as a pet companion in Crimson Desert. Renowned for fierce loyalty and high intelligence, the Jindo is a popular guard dog across the continent of Pywel. It is one of five dog breeds available in the pet system and shares the same core abilities as every other pet: following the player during exploration and automatically looting items from defeated enemies. What sets the Jindo apart is its distinct appearance and its wide availability, as it can be found roaming settlements in every region of the map.
Originally from Kweiden, the Jindo is well adapted to the varied terrain across the continent. Its favorite food is Sweet Potato, which provides the highest trust gain of any single item when taming this breed.
Like all pets, the Jindo is obtained through the trust system. You must build 100 trust with a stray Jindo through a combination of petting and feeding before you can register it as your companion. Dogs are significantly faster to tame than cats, especially when using high-quality meat. With three servings of Fine Meat and a few pettings, a Jindo can be registered in a single in-game day.

The Jindo is a well-proportioned, medium-sized dog with a wedge-shaped head, pointed triangular ears, and a curled tail that arches over its back. It has a lean, athletic build suited for agility and speed, with a short to medium-length double coat. Its alert posture and confident bearing give it an unmistakable silhouette among the other dog breeds in Pywel. The Jindo's coat is typically cream or tan, though slight color variations can occur between individual strays found in different settlements.
The Jindo comes in several coat variants. While all variants share the same stats and abilities, their appearance differs slightly in coloring and markings. Each variant can be found roaming settlements throughout Kweiden and the rest of Pywel.
The Jindo is one of the most widely available dog breeds in the game. Unlike the Brown Dog (which is tied to a specific quest) or the Saluki (which is absent from Pailune), the Jindo can be found in settlements across every region of Pywel. This makes it one of the easiest breeds to encounter naturally during the course of the main story.
Stray Jindos roam towns and cities where humans live, including larger settlements like Greymane Camp, the City of Hernand, Demeniss, and smaller villages scattered throughout the continent. Animals appear in different locations depending on the time of day, so if you do not see a Jindo on your first visit, try returning at a different in-game hour. You can also leave the area and fast travel back to trigger a respawn.
The Jindo stays in the same general area of whichever settlement it calls home, but it does wander short distances and will not remain stationary. Look for it near market areas, town squares, and residential streets. Using a lantern can help highlight nearby animals if the interaction prompt does not appear immediately.
The table below lists all items that can be fed to a Jindo to build trust. The Jindo's favorite food is Sweet Potato, which grants the highest trust per feeding. Items are grouped by trust value. Cooked dishes prepared with a Field Iron Griddle or Field Cooking Pot grant +20 trust, while raw ingredients grant +10.
Item | Trust | Notes |
|---|---|---|
+35 | Favorite food. Highest trust per feed. | |
+25 | Dropped by small creatures | |
+25 | Dropped by large creatures | |
Field Iron Griddle dishes | +20 | Grilled Meat, Grilled Fish, Grilled Bird Meat, Grilled Vegetables, Grilled Fruit, Toasted Grains, Smoked Eggs, and their Hearty/Satisfying/Filling variants |
+20 | Meat Skewers, Braised Meat, Battered Meat, Fish Skewers, Braised Fish, Battered Fish, Pickled Vegetables, Battered Vegetables, Pickled Fruit, Battered Grains, and their Hearty/Satisfying/Filling variants | |

+10 | Raw bird meat | |
Fruit | +10 | Any raw fruit |
Vegetable | +10 | Any raw vegetable |
Dairy Product | +10 | Tier 1 dairy items (e.g. Milk) |
Tip: Craft Companionship enchants on Abyss gear to increase trust gain speed with pets. The Solidarity enchant increases trust gain with all NPCs and animals.
To register a Jindo as your companion, you must build its trust to 100. Trust is accumulated through two daily actions: petting and feeding. Both actions have per-day caps tied to the in-game clock, which resets at midnight. The trust meter appears in the top-left corner of the screen whenever you interact with the stray.
Petting grants +5 trust per interaction. You can pet a dog up to 5 times per in-game day, for a maximum of +25 trust from petting alone each day. Petting is free and requires no items. To pet the Jindo, simply approach it and hold the interaction button (Square on PlayStation, E on PC).
Feeding is the fastest way to build trust. You can feed a stray up to 3 times per in-game day. To feed the Jindo, open your inventory, select a meat item, and discard it on the ground near the dog. The Jindo will walk over and eat the food if it is hungry. Dogs accept any type of meat, but the trust gained per feeding depends on the quality of meat offered.
Food Item | Trust per Feed | Max Daily Trust (3 Feeds) |
|---|---|---|
+35 | +105 | |
+10 | +30 |
Meat can be purchased at the Grocer's Shop or Butchery in Hernand, located south of the inn. Fine Meat can also be obtained by skinning medium-sized animals such as deer in the wild.
Once the trust meter reaches 100, set the animal down (if you are carrying it) and hold Square (PlayStation) or E (PC) to select the "Take In" prompt. The Jindo is then permanently registered as your pet and appears in your inventory under the Pets tab. For a full breakdown of trust values, feeding costs, and advanced taming strategies, see the main Pet Taming Guide.
The number of in-game days needed to register a Jindo depends on which food you use. The table below shows the maximum trust you can earn per day with different approaches.
Strategy | Petting | Feeding | Total per Day | Days to 100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Fine Meat + Petting | 5 x 5 = +25 | 3 x 35 = +105 | +130 | 1 day |
Tough Meat + Petting | 5 x 5 = +25 | 3 x 10 = +30 | +55 | 2 days |
Petting Only | 5 x 5 = +25 | None | +25 | 4 days |
Using Fine Meat is by far the most efficient approach. Three Fine Meat feeds alone provide +105 trust, which already exceeds the 100 threshold without any petting required. If you want to tame a Jindo on your very first encounter, bring at least three Fine Meat with you. You can also rest at campfires and cooking pots to skip forward in 12-hour increments, resetting your daily interaction counters. This lets you accumulate trust across multiple "days" in a single real-world sitting.
While the Jindo can be tamed at any point after the pet system becomes available, most players obtain their first dog through a guided quest rather than finding one in the wild. The Greymanes' New Fangs faction quest (available after completing the "Greymanes Reunited" main quest at the end of Chapter 3) introduces players to the trust system by having Naira bring Kliff to a stray Brown Dog near the City of Hernand. The quest walks you through buying meat, feeding the dog, and registering it as a companion.
The Fang Without a Master faction quest also serves as an introduction to pet taming for players who have not yet adopted an animal through the open-world trust system. Once you have completed either of these introductory quests and understand the mechanics, taming a Jindo in the wild follows the exact same process.
The Jindo's primary function is automatic looting. Once registered, your Jindo follows you during exploration and combat. After enemies are defeated, the dog sprints around the battlefield collecting all dropped items, including materials, equipment, and resources. This saves a significant amount of time during extended fights and dungeon runs. The auto-loot function triggers once the area is clear of hostile enemies, so your pet will not collect items while you are still actively fighting.
In addition to enemy drops, the Jindo picks up resources found in the environment while you explore. When you harvest materials such as herbs, ores, or wood, the dog automatically collects nearby loose items, further reducing manual gathering time.
Pets have no loot filter. The Jindo will pick up everything it finds, including low-value junk items such as rusted swords and cheap gear. Keep an eye on your inventory and sell off unwanted items regularly at merchants to avoid running out of space.
Your Jindo follows you at all times during on-foot exploration. It keeps pace with your character and stays nearby even at a jog. When you mount a horse, your active pet temporarily disappears and returns once you dismount. Unsummoned pets wait at Greymane Camp while not active. If your Jindo does not appear after dismounting, open the Pets tab in your inventory, unsummon it, and resummon it to force it to respawn at your location.
Pets can sustain injuries during combat encounters. An injured Jindo is unable to run and will move slowly until healed, which significantly slows down both exploration and looting. To heal your pet, you must first clear all enemies from the immediate area, then use Healing Force Palm on the dog to restore it to full mobility. Healing Force Palm is a variant of Force Palm from Kliff's skill tree and unlocks automatically once Force Palm reaches Level 1.
On PlayStation, hold R3 to charge Force Palm, then press L3 to switch to Healing Force Palm. On PC, hold the mouse wheel button, then press Tab. Aim at your injured Jindo and release to heal it. Always heal your pet as soon as possible after a fight to maintain efficient auto-looting.
The Jindo can be dressed in a variety of cosmetic equipment including hats, helmets, body armor, and full outfits. Pet equipment is purely cosmetic and does not affect gameplay stats or defensive capabilities. The items let you customize your Jindo's appearance without altering its abilities. To equip cosmetics, open the inventory menu, switch to the Pets tab, select the item, and choose "Equip."
Pet cosmetics can be purchased from two tailor shops that specialize in pet clothing.
Shop | Location | Access Requirement | Inventory |
|---|---|---|---|
Milou's Tailor Shop | Complete The Unreachable Village and Authorised Access quests | Full selection of hats, outfits, armor costumes, and musketeer attire | |
Pets-Tailor's Shop | Reach Demeniss region | Limited selection: Puppy Plate Helmet, Rescue Puppy Outfit, Puppy Plate Armor |
Milou's Tailor Shop in Pororin Forest Village carries the larger inventory. To unlock access to the village, you must attempt to enter the settlement three times, which triggers The Unreachable Village quest chain. The Demeniss tailor is accessible once you reach that region and carries a smaller selection of items.

There are five dog breeds in Crimson Desert. All breeds share the same core abilities (following and auto-looting) and use the same trust mechanics, so the differences between breeds are primarily cosmetic and geographical. The table below compares each breed.
Breed | Size | Availability | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Jindo | Medium | All regions | Loyal, intelligent guard dog. Widest availability of any breed. |
Large | Across the continent | Largest dog breed in Pywel. Gentle giant. | |
Medium | Near City of Hernand (quest) | Quest reward from The Greymanes' New Fangs. Typically the first pet obtained. | |
Medium | Southern settlements | Muscular build with drooping ears and broad muzzle. | |
Medium | Southern regions | Similar to Floppy-Eared variety but with erect, pointed ears. | |
Medium-Large | Everywhere except Pailune | Elegant, slender build with strong hunting instincts and remarkable speed. |
Since all breeds share the same gameplay functionality, choosing a pet comes down to personal preference in appearance and which breed you happen to encounter first. The Jindo's wide availability across all regions makes it a convenient choice for players who want a dog companion without needing to travel to a specific location.
While the Jindo shares its core abilities with every pet in the game, there are notable differences between dogs and cats during the taming process. Dogs are generally faster and easier to register.
Difference | Details |
|---|---|
Petting method | Dogs like the Jindo can be petted directly by holding the interaction button. Cats must be picked up first, then petted while being held. |
Food preferences | Dogs accept any type of meat. Fine Meat grants +35 trust per feeding. Cats only accept bird meat, fish, or milk, each granting just +10 trust per feeding. |
Taming speed | A Jindo can be registered in a single in-game day using Fine Meat. Cats take at least two in-game days even with optimal feeding. |
Regional availability | Cat breeds (Longleaf Forest Cat and Pororin Cat) are found everywhere except The Crimson Desert region. The Jindo appears across all regions with no restrictions. |
You can register up to 30 pets total, though only one can be actively summoned at a time. All registered companions are managed through the Pets tab in the inventory menu. From this screen you can summon, swap, equip cosmetics, or release a pet. Releasing a pet ("Untie") is permanent and cannot be undone.
Collecting all 30 unique pets across Pywel completes a Life Challenge and earns the Natural Collector trophy. This challenge encourages visiting every settlement and checking back at different times of day, since animals roam to different spots throughout the daily cycle. The Jindo, with its broad availability, is one of the easier breeds to find when working toward this goal.
Bring Fine Meat on every outing. Stock up from the Butchery in Hernand before visiting settlements. Three Fine Meat feeds (+105 trust) are enough to register a Jindo on the spot without any petting needed.
Isolate the stray before feeding. Guards and other nearby animals will try to eat the food you drop. Lure the Jindo to an isolated spot, or unsummon your current pet first, before discarding meat on the ground.
Check different times of day. If a Jindo is not visible in a settlement, leave and return at a different in-game hour. Animals cycle between spawn points throughout the day and night.
Fast travel to reset spawns. If a stray does not appear, fast travel to another location and back. This often forces animals to respawn in their usual area.
Use a lantern to find strays. Hovering a lantern over creatures highlights them and triggers the interaction prompt, which is helpful when searching for animals at night.
Heal injuries immediately. An injured Jindo that cannot run will slow down your entire exploration loop. Use Healing Force Palm as soon as combat ends.
Sell junk regularly. Your Jindo picks up everything during auto-loot, including low-value items. Visit merchants frequently to clear out your inventory.
Rest at campfires to speed up taming. If you are using Tough Meat or petting only, rest at a campfire or cooking pot to skip 12 hours. This resets daily interaction caps and lets you accumulate trust faster in real time.
