Overview
The Fat Cat is a tameable feline companion in Crimson Desert, recognizable by its round, plump body. Fat Cats are a variant of the Pororin Cat breed, the most common cat species found across Pywel. Players can tame a Fat Cat through the game's pet taming system by building trust to 100, after which the cat can be permanently registered as a pet. Once registered, the Fat Cat follows the player when summoned and automatically collects resources during harvesting, looting, and exploration.
Fat Cats come in multiple coat color variations, so players can encounter different-looking cats each time they visit the spawn location. Despite their hefty appearance, Fat Cats share the same core abilities as all other pets in Crimson Desert: auto-looting enemy drops, picking up crafting materials, and collecting refining resources from ores and trees.

Location
Fat Cats spawn near the Naz River, in the area surrounding the city of Hernand. The most reliable spawn point is slightly west of the Naz River Fishing Dock. Additional sightings have been reported along Hernand's main road, near the fountain entrance with guards, and around the constable cages near a light post.
If a Fat Cat is not present at the spawn location, walk far enough away to leave the area's render distance, then return. The game will re-roll the animal spawns in that zone, and a Fat Cat may appear on your next visit. Repeat this process until one shows up. Because each spawn can produce a different coat color variation, players who want a specific look may need to reset the area multiple times.
Fat Cats can also be found in Pororin Village, which is home to a large number of roaming cats. However, the Naz River location near Hernand is the most accessible spot early in the game.
How to Tame
Taming a Fat Cat requires raising its trust from 0 to 100 using the pet trust system. Because of daily caps on trust-building actions, the process takes a minimum of two in-game days. Below is a detailed, step-by-step walkthrough.
Day One
Find and pick up the cat. Approach the Fat Cat near the Naz River and hold the interaction button to pick it up. Unlike dogs, cats must be carried before you can pet them.
Pet it five times. While holding the cat, press the pet button five times. Each pet grants +5 trust, bringing your total to 25. This is the daily petting cap.
Bring it inside a building. Carry the cat toward a nearby building in Hernand. Cats cannot pass through doors while you are holding them, so put the cat down first, open the door, then pick it up again and carry it inside. Keeping the cat indoors prevents it from wandering away or despawning while you prepare food.
Obtain Dried Fish. If you do not already have Dried Fish in your inventory, look for buckets inside the building where you can purchase them. Dried Fish is inexpensive and readily available in Hernand.
Feed the cat three Dried Fish. Open your inventory and discard one Dried Fish at a time by selecting it and choosing "Discard." This places the fish on the ground next to the cat, which will walk over and eat it. Each fish grants +10 trust. Feed three fish total to gain +30 trust, bringing your total from 25 to 55.
Wait for the daily reset. At 55 trust, you have reached the daily cap (25 from petting + 30 from feeding). You must wait until midnight (the start of a new in-game day) to continue building trust. Pick up the cat and hold it so it does not wander away or despawn while you wait.
Day Two
Pet it five more times. After midnight, the daily petting counter resets. Pet the cat five times for +25 trust, bringing your total from 55 to 80.
Feed two more Dried Fish. Discard two Dried Fish from your inventory, one at a time. Each grants +10 trust, bringing your total from 80 to 100.
Register the cat. At 100 trust, a new interaction prompt appears. Hold the button and select "Take In" to permanently register the Fat Cat as your pet. It will be added to your pet roster under the Pets tab in your inventory.
Trust Progression Summary
Action | Trust Gained | Running Total | Day |
|---|---|---|---|
Pet x5 | +25 | 25 | Day 1 |
Feed Dried Fish x3 | +30 | 55 | Day 1 |
(Daily cap reached) | — | 55 | Day 1 |
Pet x5 (after midnight) | +25 | 80 | Day 2 |
Feed Dried Fish x2 | +20 | 100 | Day 2 |
Take In | — | 100 (Registered) | Day 2 |
Variations
Fat Cats come in several different coat color variations. Each time the spawn location resets, the game can produce a cat with a different appearance. All variations share the same stats and abilities; the only difference is cosmetic. If you want a specific color, leave the Naz River area and return until the desired variation spawns.
Players have reported seeing variations including solid gray, black, tabby (striped), orange, and calico (multi-colored) Fat Cats. Exact availability may vary, as coat colors are randomly assigned at spawn.
Abilities
Once registered as a pet, the Fat Cat provides several passive benefits while summoned. All pet breeds in Crimson Desert share the same core abilities, so the Fat Cat functions identically to other cats and dogs in terms of gameplay utility.
Ability | Description |
|---|---|
Auto-Loot (Combat) | The Fat Cat automatically runs across the battlefield and picks up loot dropped by defeated enemies, including equipment, materials, and consumables. |
Resource Pickup (Harvesting) | When the player harvests ores, chops trees, or gathers herbs, the Fat Cat collects the dropped resources automatically. This saves time during gathering runs. |
Destructible Object Pickup | The Fat Cat also gathers items from destructible objects and environmental containers the player breaks during exploration. |
Exploration Companion | The Fat Cat follows the player across all regions of Pywel while summoned, staying close during travel. |
Keep in mind that pets pick up everything without any loot filter. This means your inventory can fill up quickly with low-value junk items. Managing inventory regularly is recommended when exploring with a summoned pet.
Pets are invulnerable during combat. Enemies cannot target or damage your summoned Fat Cat, so there is no risk of losing it in a fight. You can register up to 30 pets total, but only one pet can be actively summoned at any time.
Known Issues
There are a few known bugs related to the Fat Cat taming process that players should be aware of.
Disappearing on registration: Sometimes the cat vanishes when you attempt to "Take In" at 100 trust. If this happens, walk outside and jump into the water near the Naz River. The cat will fall out of your hand and swim back to shore on its own. Once it reaches dry land, you can interact with it again and complete the registration.
Despawning while idle: If left unattended for too long, the Fat Cat may despawn entirely. To prevent this, always pick the cat up and hold it whenever you need to wait (for example, while waiting for the midnight reset). Keeping the cat indoors also helps.
Food stolen by NPCs: When you discard food on the ground, nearby NPCs or other stray animals may grab it before your target cat reaches it. Drop food in an enclosed area away from other characters, or position yourself so the cat is the closest entity to the dropped item.
Tips
Always bring at least five Dried Fish before starting the taming process. You need three on Day 1 and two on Day 2, with extras in case an NPC or another animal eats one.
Carry the cat into a building early. This prevents it from wandering into water, running away, or despawning. Buildings near the Naz River in Hernand are ideal because they also contain merchants that sell Dried Fish.
Drop food one piece at a time. If you discard multiple fish at once, the cat may only eat one, wasting the rest. Always wait for the cat to finish eating before dropping the next piece.
If the registration prompt does not appear after reaching 100 trust, try equipping your lantern first. Some players have reported that switching items or pulling out the lantern triggers the "Take In" prompt.
You can skip the midnight wait by resting at a camp or using other time-skip mechanics if available. This speeds up the two-day taming process significantly.
To get a specific color variation, simply leave the area and return until the cat with your preferred coat spawns. All variations have identical stats.
