Horseshoes can be purchased from Saddlery Vendors found throughout Pywel. Each major region has at least one saddlery that stocks horseshoes alongside saddles and stirrups. Key saddlery locations include:
Hernand Main Saddlery (north of Hernand Castle and Lioncrest Manor): the earliest saddlery most players encounter.
Hernand Goldleaf Tradepost Saddlery (near the Goldleaf Tradepost): convenient during trading or resource runs.
Calphade Saddlery (south of the Calphade Training Field): frequently visited due to nearby combat training.
Delesyian Main Saddlery (near Finhold Netmakers, south of the Delesyian Institute): stocks higher-tier gear.
Tommaso Saddlery (center of Tommaso Town): easy access without deviating from main routes.
Varnia Saddlery (near Alabaster Bridge entrance): two closely placed facilities for quick stops.
Higher-rarity horseshoes may not appear at every vendor. Building merchant trust (up to 100 points through daily greetings, completing requests, and gifting items) can unlock additional stock at saddleries. Higher trust also provides price discounts on purchases.
Ironstone Horseshoes are a Tier 1 (Common) horseshoe option, sharing the same +1 Attack and +1 Stamina regeneration stats as the Shabby Horseshoes. The two are functionally identical in terms of base stats and refinement costs. Ironstone Horseshoes prioritize durability over craftsmanship, making them a reliable early-game option.
As you advance through the story and unlock saddleries in new regions, plan to upgrade to Tier 2 horseshoes like the Bronze Horseshoes or Silver Iron Horseshoes for improved Attack and Stamina regeneration. Both Ironstone and Shabby Horseshoes serve as stepping stones until stronger options become available.
To equip horseshoes, stand near your active horse and open your inventory. Switch to the horse inventory tab (press R2 on controller) to view your mount's five gear slots: Saddle, Horseshoes, Stirrups, Champron, and Barding. Select the horseshoe item and click Equip to apply it. You can also access the horse inventory through the Lantern button menu while riding.
Horseshoes can be refined at any Blacksmith to increase their stats. Refinement does not cost silver or gold. Instead, it requires gathering raw materials such as ores (Iron Ore, Copper Ore) and other resources through mining and logging. The first blacksmith most players encounter is Turnali in the City of Hernand.
Levels 1 through 4 use standard gathering materials. From level 5 onward, the blacksmith also requires Abyss Artifacts in addition to raw materials. To start gathering materials early, complete Rhett's Request (rewards a Pickaxe) and Turnali's Request (rewards a Logging Axe) after Chapter 1.
