Overview
The Logging Axe is one of the two most important gathering tools in Crimson Desert, alongside the Pickaxe. It is a basic tool used for chopping wood, with its weight concentrated toward the blade to deliver powerful downward strikes. The Logging Axe is essential for obtaining thick timber, one of the primary materials needed for Refinement upgrades on weapons, armor, and accessories.
This is the standard gathering tool, not to be confused with the Pailunese Logging Axe, which is a weapon variant with different stats and combat applications.

How to Obtain
There are multiple ways to get a Logging Axe:
Provisioner's Shop: Buy one from the Provisioner vendor in Hernand for 29 copper coins. The shop is located across from the blacksmith.
Blacksmith: Speak with the Hernand blacksmith to receive a free Logging Axe as part of an early quest.
Other vendors: Provisioner shops in other towns throughout Pywel also stock the Logging Axe.
Usage
Equip the Logging Axe through the Equipment Wheel (hold D-Pad Left / F3 on PC) and approach a tree. Each tree takes about three swings to fell. The Logging Mastery effect improves woodcutting speed, so the more you use the tool, the more efficient gathering becomes.
Wood and timber gathered with the Logging Axe are used at the Smithy for Refinement upgrades. Purchase the Logging Axe as early as possible from the Hernand Provisioner, since you will need wood throughout the entire game.
Alternative Method
Players who have progressed far enough in the story can use the Turning Slash skill to fell trees without equipping the axe. The skill cuts trees instantly but costs stamina and is less practical for sustained gathering runs.
Refinement
The Logging Axe can be refined at any Smithy in Pywel, with 10 refinement levels. Higher refinement means faster tree felling and better material yield. The Smithy in Hernand is unlocked after completing Turnali's quest, which asks you to chop a few trees and deliver the wood.
Combat Notes
At Attack 8, the Logging Axe can deal some damage as an improvised weapon, but it is far weaker than proper weapons. Stick to your main armament for combat.
