Overview
The Shot Contest: Gun is a competitive shooting minigame in Crimson Desert. Players face off against a Sharpshooter opponent to see who can hit 10 randomly appearing targets first using a firearm. The contest is one of several minigames available in the open world and is designed to test quick reflexes and accurate aim.
The Gun Shot Contest is the firearm counterpart to the Shot Contest: Bow, which uses archery instead. Both contests share the same core format of hitting 10 targets before an opponent, but the Gun variant features different aiming mechanics and a higher entry fee. The contest honors the title of "Silver Trigger," a legendary distinction for Pywel's greatest gunslinger.
Location
The Shot Contest: Gun is located in Hernand Town within the Hernand region, near Lioncrest Manor. Players can find the contest area by looking for the shooting range and the Sharpshooter NPC who hosts the event.
Detail | Information |
|---|---|
Region | Hernand |

Entry Cost | 1.00 Silver |
Type | Marksmanship Competition |
Unlike some minigames that have a cooldown between attempts, the Shot Contest: Gun has no refresh timer. Players can participate as many times as they want, provided they have enough Silver to cover the 1 Silver entry fee each time.
Character Restriction
The Shot Contest: Gun is exclusive to Damiane. This means that players must be controlling Damiane to participate in the contest. The minigame cannot be accessed while playing as Kliff or Oongka. Since Damiane specializes in ranged combat and firearms, this restriction fits her character identity as a sharpshooter.
Damiane becomes available as a playable character through story progression. If you have not yet unlocked her, you will need to advance the main questline before you can attempt this minigame.
Rules and Gameplay
The Shot Contest: Gun follows a straightforward race format. Two competitors stand at a shooting range where targets appear at random positions. The first contestant to successfully hit 10 targets wins the match.
Objective
Be the first to hit 10 randomly appearing targets. Targets pop up one at a time at varying positions along the shooting range. Each target must be hit cleanly to count toward your total. The match ends the moment either competitor reaches 10 hits.
Controls
Platform | Aim | Fire |
|---|---|---|
PlayStation | Hold L2 | Release L2 |
Xbox | Hold LT | Release LT |
PC (Keyboard) | Hold Right Click | Release Right Click |
Hold the aim button to withdraw your gun and line up your shot, then release to fire. The aiming reticle narrows the longer you hold the aim button, rewarding patience with increased accuracy. However, holding too long gives your opponent time to hit the target first.
Target Behavior
Targets appear one at a time in random locations across the shooting range.
Once a target appears, both you and your opponent can attempt to hit it.
The first person to hit the target scores a point, and a new target spawns.
Targets may appear at varying distances, requiring adjustments to aim.
Gun accuracy tends to be higher than bow accuracy at range, but the targets may appear at different distances to compensate for this advantage.
Scoring
Scoring in the Shot Contest: Gun is binary: you either hit the target or you miss. There are no partial scores, bonus points for headshots, or multipliers for speed. The only metric that matters is reaching 10 successful hits before your opponent does.
Outcome | Result |
|---|---|
Hit target first | You score 1 point; opponent scores nothing |
Opponent hits first | Opponent scores 1 point; you score nothing |
Miss the target | No point awarded; target remains until hit |
First to 10 hits | Wins the match |
If you miss a shot, the target stays visible until someone lands a hit on it. This means a miss is not immediately catastrophic, but it does give your opponent an opportunity to claim that point while you reposition.
Rewards
Winning the Shot Contest: Gun awards Silver currency. The key feature of the reward system is that payouts increase with consecutive victories. The more matches you win in a row, the more Silver you earn per win. Losing a match resets the streak back to the base payout.
Condition | Reward |
|---|---|
Win (single) | Silver (base amount) |
Consecutive wins | Silver (increasing with each win) |
Loss | No reward; streak resets |
Because rewards scale with consecutive wins, building and maintaining a winning streak is significantly more profitable than winning individual matches. A player who wins five matches in a row earns more total Silver than someone who wins five matches with losses in between.
Silver Trigger Challenge
The Shot Contest: Gun is tied to the Silver Trigger challenge. To complete this challenge, you must win the Gun Shooting contest. Completing the Silver Trigger challenge awards the Insight I skill upgrade, which improves Damiane's abilities.
Challenge | Minigame | Requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
Silver Trigger | Shot Contest: Gun | Win the Gun Shooting contest | Insight I |
Challenges are tracked in the Challenges menu and are unlocked by interacting with each minigame location for the first time. The Silver Trigger challenge becomes visible after your first visit to the Gun Shot Contest in Hernand Town.
Comparison with Shot Contest: Bow
The two Shot Contest variants share the same core format but differ in several ways. Below is a side-by-side comparison with the Shot Contest: Bow.
Feature | Shot Contest: Gun | Shot Contest: Bow |
|---|---|---|
Location | ||
Entry Cost | 1 Silver | 80 Copper |
Weapon | Firearm | Bow |
Character | Any character | |
Target Count | 10 | 10 |
Accuracy at Range | Higher | Lower |
Challenge | Silver Trigger | Skilled in Archery |
The Gun variant has a higher entry cost (1 Silver versus 80 Copper) and is restricted to Damiane, while the Bow variant can be played by any character. Firearms offer better accuracy at range, but the Gun contest compensates with targets at potentially greater distances.
Tips and Strategy
Save before entering. The contest costs 1 Silver per attempt. Save your game beforehand so you can reload if you lose, preserving your currency while you practice.
Keep your aim centered. Position your reticle near the center of the shooting range between shots. When a target appears to the left or right, you only need a small adjustment rather than sweeping across the entire range.
Prioritize accuracy over speed. Missing a shot wastes more time than taking an extra fraction of a second to aim properly. A missed shot leaves the target standing for your opponent to claim.
Learn the target positions. While targets appear randomly, they can only spawn in a fixed set of positions along the range. After a few rounds, you will start to recognize these positions and can pre-aim toward likely spawn points.
Build consecutive win streaks. Since rewards increase with each consecutive victory, it is far more profitable to maintain a winning streak. If you are struggling, practice with the cheaper Shot Contest: Bow (80 Copper) first to get comfortable with the target-hitting format before investing Silver in the Gun contest.
Watch your opponent's progress. Pay attention to how many targets your opponent has hit. If they are ahead, you may need to sacrifice some accuracy for speed. If you are ahead, take your time and play conservatively.
Exploit the aiming reticle. The reticle tightens the longer you hold the aim button. For distant targets, hold aim slightly longer for a tighter spread. For close targets, a quick draw and release is sufficient.
