Overview
Rock Paper Scissors is one of several minigames available in Crimson Desert. It is a simple, free-to-play activity where the player competes against a child in a best-of-three match of the classic hand game. The minigame is located in the City of Hernand within the Hernand region. Winning a match grants random collectible rewards such as butterflies and insects, and the game can be replayed once every 23 in-game hours.
Location
The Rock Paper Scissors minigame is found east of the Provisioner's Shop in the City of Hernand. A group of children can be seen playing in this area. To start the game, interact with the child who is standing near the group.
The minigame is marked on the map with a pin, but this pin may disappear depending on the in-game time of day. If the map marker is not visible, try advancing time by resting or completing other activities and then returning to the area later.
How to Play
Rock Paper Scissors follows the standard rules of the real-world hand game. Two participants play against each other and must score two out of three rounds to win the match. The basic rules are:
Scissors beat Paper
Rock beats Scissors
Paper beats Rock
Each round, the player selects one of the three options. The opponent (a child NPC) also makes a selection. The first player to win two rounds wins the match. If a round results in a tie (both players choose the same option), that round does not count toward either side and is replayed.
The player needs to predict the opponent's choice each round. Since the child's selections are randomized, there is no guaranteed winning pattern. However, players can use the save-and-reload strategy described in the Tips section below to secure a win without relying on luck.
Rewards
Winning a match of Rock Paper Scissors grants a random reward. The known possible drops are collectible items used in various crafting and collection systems:
Reward | Type |
|---|---|
Orange Barred Sulphur Butterfly | Collectible insect |
Fruit Fly | Collectible insect |
Rewards are given randomly after each victory. The pool of possible drops may include additional items beyond those listed above.
Trust Points
Interacting with the boy standing near the children who are playing Rock Paper Scissors grants Trust +5. Trust is a relationship stat that reflects how much the local population values and respects the player. Building Trust unlocks additional interactions, quest opportunities, and vendor stock across the Hernand region.
Cooldown Timer
After completing a match (win or lose), the Rock Paper Scissors minigame enters a cooldown period of 23 in-game hours. During this time, the player cannot challenge the child to another match. The cooldown resets after the timer expires, at which point the map pin reappears and the game becomes available again.
The 23-hour cooldown is tied to in-game time, not real-world time. Resting at a camp or bed advances the in-game clock and can help the cooldown pass faster.
Tips and Strategies
Save before playing. It is strongly recommended to manually save the game before starting a match. If the result is not favorable, the player can reload the save and try again. This is the most reliable way to guarantee a win and obtain the desired reward.
Leave and restart. If the first round goes poorly, the player can walk away from the minigame to cancel it without finishing. Interacting with the child again starts a fresh match from round one. This avoids needing to reload a save for minor setbacks.
Check the time of day. The minigame's map pin disappears at certain times of day. If the marker is missing, the children may not be in position. Return at a different time or rest to advance the clock.
Combine with other Hernand activities. The City of Hernand offers several other minigames including Arm Wrestling, Duo (a card game), Shot Contest: Gun, and Weapon Duel: Spear. While waiting for the Rock Paper Scissors cooldown to expire, visit these other activities nearby.
No entry fee required. Unlike most other minigames in Hernand (which cost Copper or Silver to enter), Rock Paper Scissors is completely free to play. This makes it a risk-free way to earn collectible items.
