Overview
The Sanctum of Absolution is one of the four Witch of Wisdom Sanctums in the Hernand part of Pywel in Crimson Desert. Like all Sanctums, it is described as a place imbued with spiritual power, reportedly created in the ancient past to restore the world and its providence. The Antumbra revere Sanctums as sacred ground because of the immense power they hold.

The Sanctum of Absolution is associated with the Second Edict, which declares: "Believe that only by accepting Death within the embrace of the Guide may irreverence be cleansed."
Unlike most other Sanctums, the Sanctum of Absolution includes a mandatory boss fight against Antumbra's Sword, making it one of the more challenging cleansing encounters. Players should ensure they are well-leveled and stocked with recovery items before attempting it.
Location
The Sanctum of Absolution is located in the Hernand region. An Abyss Nexus can be found near the site for fast travel access. The Sanctum sits among ancient stone ruins in an open area with several connected interior rooms that hold the puzzle components.
Access
This route involves Elowen; the dedicated Sanctum guide names the Witch of Wisdom quest as a prerequisite. Earlier notes placed her introduction during Chapter 5 of the main story, but that chapter attribution is not a verified universal gate for every Sanctum. Her faction route asks Kliff to cleanse four sanctums in the Hernand region. Players can set waypoints to any Sanctum through their quest journal.
Boss Fight: Antumbra's Sword
Before the puzzle can be attempted, players must defeat a boss called Antumbra's Sword. The encounter is part of this site's documented route. It is not the only Sanctum with a named boss: the Cloister group also records Antumbra's Staff at Solace and Antumbra's Spear at Revelation, rather than only standard enemies.
Preparation
Earlier preparation advice recommended at least three Palmar Pills in your inventory, as these allow you to recover if you are downed. Refine your weapons and armor to tier three or four for adequate damage and defense. Invest Abyss Artifacts into the focus node on the skill tree to unlock Focus level 3, which helps maintain composure during long fights. Stock up on healing food (clear soup works well) and enough for a long fight. The three-Pill minimum, refinement tier three or four and Focus level 3 remain earlier recommendations, not established entry requirements.
Strategy
Bring plenty of healing food and recovery items. The fight is a war of attrition, and running out of healing is the primary cause of failure.
Do not attempt the fight until you have sufficient health and stamina upgrades. A few strong skills on your weapon will make the fight much more manageable.
Avoid getting greedy with attack combos. Wait for the boss to finish its combo chains before retaliating with a few strikes, then back off.
Use the Stab move to apply passive bleed damage, which chips away at the boss's health between your attack windows.
When Antumbra's Sword powers up and creates a duplicate, focus entirely on dodging. The duplicate ground pound attack can kill in one hit.
Exploit edge positioning by keeping the boss near the arena boundary, which can create openings for stunlocking.
Earlier notes call Slashing Waves unblockable and describe a glowing-sword charge-up with the blade dipping toward the ground, then recommend a dodge sideways rather than backpedaling. The exact wave-versus-sprint speed comparison is unmeasured here. Earlier advice uses that opening to rush in and counterattack.
For the documented Ground Thrust, use Blinding Flash when the boss raises the sword in both hands. For the triple teleporting Shadow Strike, the guide recommends flashing after dodging the third attack to interrupt the combo. Its named move description also offers a parry when the sword lifts behind the boss. Use the nearby pillar as cover, then a Blinding Flash Finisher after a successful blind. Dodge the illusion attacks; the guide warns of heavy damage or a possible one-hit defeat, not a fixed damage value for every build. Keen Senses Lv.2 is a suggested dodge aid, not a mandatory Focus Lv.3 unlock.
Vanish and Rewards
The boss will occasionally vanish in a cloud of smoke and reappear behind you. When this happens, dodge immediately. If the boss's back is turned after reappearing, that is a safe window to land a few strikes before backing off.
Defeating Antumbra's Sword rewards an Abyss Artifact and the Vessel of Dark Pursuit, a powerful two-handed weapon whose earlier reported 25 attack and critical rate level 1 are not verified universal base stats. Its installed Wound of Darkness abyss core is documented as three forward blades of dark energy that push enemies back, rather than only a vertical slash. Earlier input notes associated it with Turning Slash; the gear record instead uses the equipped skill prompt and says it consumes additional Spirit. Use the current preset. The weapon can be refined. See the Hidden Treasure section below for the full stat breakdown.

Puzzle Walkthrough
After defeating Antumbra's Sword, the cleansing puzzle becomes available. The Sanctum of Absolution puzzle involves restoring a broken pillar and installing a hidden power cube.
Step 1: Find the Pillar Piece
The guide places the pillar piece in an underground chamber: walk across the pebbled hallway to reveal the floor opening. The older south-from-boss bearing remains an earlier route note. Use Axiom Force to grab it and carry it back up to the surface.
Step 2: Repair the Pillar
Take the pillar piece to the broken pillar at the main Sanctum structure. Place it on the support and use a jumping Force Palm (Aerial Force Palm) to lock it into position, just like the other Sanctums.
Step 3: Find the Power Cube
Climb back up through the hole in the ceiling to the corridor where you fought the boss. At the far end of the corridor you will see a pile of clay pots. Smash all the pots to reveal the power cube hidden behind them.
Step 4: Install the Power Cube
Use Axiom Force to carry the power cube to the main Sanctum machine. Slam it into the square recess using Force Palm. With the pillar repaired and the cube installed, the Sanctum of Absolution is cleansed.
After cleansing, the separate optional dial puzzle uses Blinding Flash on the crystals around the rim. Shine on crystal sections, stop across the intervening stone gaps and continue through a full rotation. Mistimed light resets the dial. Success releases one Core of Absolution; grab it with Axiom Force and Seal it. This Core reward is separate from the boss's one Abyss Artifact and Vessel of Dark Pursuit, and from the Witch of Wisdom mission's blueprint knowledge rewards.
Hidden Treasure
The weapon reward comes from defeating Antumbra's Sword. This is separate from restoring the Sanctum and solving its optional Core dial. The older claim that this is the only Sanctum with a boss-gated treasure is contradicted by the other named Sanctum encounters in the Cloister quest group.
Reward: Vessel of Dark Pursuit
Defeating Antumbra's Sword drops the Vessel of Dark Pursuit, a powerful two-handed weapon with the following stats:

Stat | Value |
|---|---|
Attack | Earlier reported 25; refinement table records 16 at +0 and 43 at +10 |
Insight I installed gear supplies Lv.1; guide stat card displays Lv.0, so do not assume a universal intrinsic Lv.1 | |
The Wound of Darkness abyss core unleashes three forward blades of dark energy that push enemies back and deal damage. Earlier input notes mapped it to Turning Slash; the exact current binding and the old vertical-only attack description are not independently established by the gear record. It consumes additional Spirit; use the current equipment skill prompt.
The earlier 25-base-Attack claim and comparison with most other weapons are unverified as current measurements. The recorded refinement curve runs from 16 Attack at +0 to 43 at +10. It can be refined at a blacksmith. The boss drop is a documented route to a two-handed option in Hernand, but its global difficulty and late-game damage rankings are not independently measured here.
The weapon record lists Wound of Darkness, Insight I and Destruction I as installed gears; three installed entries do not establish maximum socket capacity. The weapon guide separately lists five slots. A recorded Smith alternative uses thirty Abyss Cells and any three eligible sealed Power Cores total: Gate of Collapse, Ore of Resipiscence, Casket of Illusions, Crown of Shadows or Spire of Defiance. The record also lists Elowen as a seller, without establishing a current price or universal stock condition. The guide names Kliff as wearer while the record says all characters; that discrepancy is unresolved.
Rewards
Cleansing the Sanctum of Absolution awards several valuable rewards:
Reward | Details |
|---|---|
Enhanced Kuku Pot Blueprint | : The Witch of Wisdom Absolution mission lists Blueprint I: Enhanced Kuku Pot and Blueprint I: Kuku Spear after liberation, cleansing and speaking to the witch at the site. This is separate from the optional Core dial. Earlier notes associated the recipe route with Grimnir and describe the Enhanced Kuku Pot as an intermediate crafting material for advanced equipment, including Kuku Marni Laser Helm and the Kuku Spear; those broader recipe examples do not define the exact reward timing or every current shop state. |
: Dropped by the Antumbra's Sword boss. Earlier quoted 25 Attack and Critical Rate Lv.1 are not universal base-stat guarantees; see the recorded refinement curve and installed Wound of Darkness abyss gear above. | |
: Also dropped by Antumbra's Sword upon defeat. | |
Completing all four of Elowen's sanctums fulfills her portion of the cleansing quest and grants additional Abyss-related rewards. | -- |
Completion
The Sanctum of Absolution was cleansed.
Role in the Overwhelming Beings Questline
Defeating Antumbra's Sword at the Sanctum of Absolution is one of three prerequisites for challenging Ator, the Antumbra Archon at the Cloister of Ruination. Ator is classified as an overwhelming being, the highest tier of boss in the game. The three generals that must be defeated before the Cloister becomes accessible are:
Antumbra's Sword at the Sanctum of Absolution (south of Hernand)
Antumbra's Spear at the Sanctum of Revelation (Serpent Marsh island)
Antumbra's Staff at the Sanctum of Solace (in Pailune)
Only after all three generals are defeated do the seals on the Cloister of Ruination break, granting access to the Ator boss fight.
