Overview
Arm wrestling is a minigame in Crimson Desert that combines rapid button mashing with timed precision inputs. Winning matches earns silver and can be required for certain quests.
Basic Mechanics
The goal is to fill the on-screen gauge in your favor (red) before your opponent fills it in theirs. The match has two simultaneous input types: continuous button mashing and periodic timing events.
Button Mashing Phase
Controller: Mash X (Xbox) or Square (PlayStation) as fast as possible.
Keyboard: Spam the E key rapidly.
Use your dominant hand for mashing, since endurance matters more than you might expect in later rounds.
Timing Events
Periodically, a circular gauge appears on screen with a moving needle. Wait for the needle to enter the grey zone, then press R on keyboard or A/X on controller. Hitting the timing window gives you a large burst of progress on the gauge.
Prioritize timing over mashing. Nailing every timing event is more impactful than pure mash speed. You can win matches by hitting every timing window alone.
Press slightly early. Hit the button about a fraction of a second before you see the needle reach the grey zone to account for input delay.
Use separate hands. Keep one hand on the mash button and the other ready for the timing press. Do not try to handle both inputs with the same hand.
Difficulty Scaling
Each successive round becomes harder. Opponents mash faster, and the timing windows shrink. Playing on a controller generally makes the mashing phase easier because trigger and face buttons are more ergonomic for rapid presses.
Tips
A controller with turbo functionality can trivialize the mashing phase, though this is not officially supported.
If you keep losing, take a short break and return. Finger fatigue is the biggest obstacle in later rounds.
