Overview
The Helfryn Leather Armor is a Rare chest Armor piece in Crimson Desert. It is part of the Helfryn armor set, a collection of leather equipment once worn by Gabriel Caliburn, Duke of the Kingdom of Demeniss. Made from very dark brown leather with crimson-trimmed edges, this armor pairs a refined design with solid durability. The entire set stands out visually from the heavy plate armor that most players encounter throughout the game, giving Kliff a distinctive pirate or cowboy look.
All pieces of the Helfryn set are found as open-world loot scattered across Demeniss City. None of them appear on the map, and several are hidden behind secret walls, breakable barriers, or hard-to-spot windows. Despite being well hidden, the full set can be collected in roughly 20 minutes once you know where each piece is located.
Chest Armor Stats
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Type | Armor (Body) |
Rarity | Rare |
9 (base) | |
Refinement | Lv. 3 (pre-refined) |
Resistance | Lightning Resistance Lv. 1 |
Health +0.2/sec, Swim Speed +2.0%, Damage Reduction 1.0 | |
Refinable | Yes |
The chest armor comes pre-refined at Level 3 and includes several Abyss Gear modifiers. The Abyss Cores can be removed and either synthesized or transferred to other equipment if you prefer to use different gear later on. Because the piece is refinable, it remains viable well into the late game if you continue investing refinement materials into it.
How to Obtain
The Helfryn Leather Armor is found inside a hidden room in the Bell Tower, the tallest structure in the southern district of Demeniss City. Getting to it requires climbing and passing through a secret wall.
Step-by-Step Directions
From the central fast travel point in Demeniss, head toward the large tower in the southern part of the city. It is the tallest structure in the area, surrounded by guards and decorated with banners and flags.
Begin climbing the east-facing exterior wall of the tower. The climb is long, so bring stamina food if your stamina pool is still low. Recent updates have reduced the stamina cost of traversal, but early-game characters may still struggle.
Use the small ledges along the tower wall to pause and regenerate stamina between bursts of climbing. Simply releasing your grip on a ledge will refill your stamina bar.
Climb until you reach the midway platform just below the upper section where two pillars connect. This area does not look like it contains anything special.
Walk forward between the two pillars. This pushes open a hidden wall, revealing a small chamber on the other side.
Open the treasure chest inside to claim the Helfryn Leather Armor.
This hidden room is one of the most cleverly concealed secrets in Demeniss. Unless you walk directly between the pillars, there is no visible indication that the wall can move. Most players will never stumble on it during normal gameplay.
Full Set Overview
The complete Helfryn set consists of four armor pieces. The set does not include headgear or a shield, but several complementary items pair well with the leather aesthetic. Below is a summary of every piece, its equipment slot, where to find it, and its key stats.
Piece | Slot | Location | Refinable | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Body | Hidden room in Bell Tower (south district) | 9 | Yes | |
Cloak | Attic window in building (north district) | 3 | No | |
Secret wall in vine-covered tower (northeast) | 4 | Yes | ||
Sewer drain outside south gate | 4 | Yes |
In addition to the four armor pieces, the Helfryn Necklace is a related accessory tied to the same lore. It is obtained through crafting rather than open-world chests. The necklace provides Critical Rate and Spirit regeneration, making it a strong companion to the leather set for players who want to commit fully to the Caliburn theme.
Collecting Each Piece
Helfryn Leather Cloak
The Helfryn Leather Cloak is the simplest piece to obtain. Travel to the far northern part of Demeniss and look for a building with a visible attic window near a vine-covered tower. Climb up to the window, open it if it is closed, and drop inside. The chest sitting in the back of this attic room contains the cloak.
This cloak provides 3 Defense and Ice Resistance Lv. 5. It is the only piece in the set that cannot be refined, so its stats are fixed. That said, Crimson Desert offers many excellent cloaks, so you can swap in a stronger option later while keeping the rest of the Helfryn set equipped.
Helfryn Leather Gloves
The Helfryn Leather Gloves are located in the same general area as the cloak. From the attic window, jump out and head around the corner to the right. You will see a vine-covered tower connected to the nearby wall. Climb up the tower and look for a suspicious segment of the wall partway up.
To enter, use Axiom Force (L2) to cling to the wall, then activate Force Palm (R3). The wall panel rotates inward on a hinge, carrying you into a hidden chamber. The treasure chest inside holds the gloves. These provide 16 Attack, 4 Defense, and Critical Rate Lv. 1, along with Abyss Gear modifiers including a 10% pickpocket bonus and Climb Speed +2%.
Note that Force Palm may not be available very early in the story. If you arrive in Demeniss before unlocking this ability, you will need to return later for the gloves.
Helfryn Leather Boots
The Helfryn Leather Boots are found outside the city walls. Head to the south gate of Demeniss and exit through the tunnel. Once outside, turn right and follow the eastern stretch of the outer castle wall. You will spot a hole patched with wooden boards in the wall, resembling a sewer drain.
Attack the wooden planks to break them (your grapple hook works if regular weapon attacks do not connect), then crouch to squeeze through the opening. The treasure chest at the end of the short passage contains the boots. They offer 15 Attack, 4 Defense, Critical Rate Lv. 2, and come with a Fortune Abyss Gear that grants +10% Silver gain, which is useful if you are farming currency.
Recommended Headgear
The Helfryn set does not include a headgear piece, but two items complement the leather aesthetic particularly well:
Special Effect | How to Obtain | ||
|---|---|---|---|
3 | Detect Treasure (feather glows near chests) | Treasure chest aboard the Singing Catfish pirate ship, south of Velawa | |
2 | Gambler's Sight (see opponent cards in Duo minigame) | Purchase from Seratien at the Bonepit in Tashkalp after reaching 100 Trust |
The Pirate King Hat is the stronger pick for exploration. Its Detect Treasure passive causes the feather to glow whenever a treasure chest is nearby, and a recent patch increased its detection range. The hat is found aboard the Singing Catfish pirate ship in the waters south of Velawa. Reaching the ship requires a rowboat and fighting through the pirate crew on deck.
The Deceiver's Fedora fits a cowboy aesthetic instead. It allows you to see your opponent's cards in the Duo minigame, effectively letting you cheat at gambling. To unlock it, travel to the Bonepit arena in Tashkalp, defeat the arena fighters, then gift Coin Purses to the vendor Seratien until your Trust reaches 100. The hat then becomes available for purchase.
Complementary Items
While collecting the Helfryn set in Demeniss, two other notable items are hidden in the same city:
Black Sun Shield is hidden beneath a bridge near the Abyss Nexus in Demeniss. Like the gloves, it requires the Axiom Force and Force Palm wall interaction to access. The shield provides Damage Reduction and reduced Guard Stamina Cost, making it a solid defensive option.
Combat God's Plate Gloves are obtained from the Bonepit arena in Tashkalp (not in Demeniss). These lightning gauntlets come with a unique moveset and are considered some of the strongest gloves in the game. If you travel to Tashkalp for the Deceiver's Fedora, the arena fights are well worth completing.
Tips
All four Helfryn pieces are located in the open world, so no quests or story progression gates are required. However, Demeniss is filled with hostile enemies if you arrive before the story takes you there. Make sure you are comfortable fighting the guards, or wait until the area becomes friendly.
Bring stamina food for the climbs. The Bell Tower and the vine tower both require sustained vertical climbing. Using the small ledges to rest between bursts of climbing saves you from burning through food.
A quick trick for gaining extra height during parkour: jump and use a Force Punch in midair to launch yourself higher. Be careful not to use this near citizens or soldiers, because it counts as attacking them.
The cloak is the easiest piece to grab first, since it requires no special abilities. The gloves and the chest armor both involve secret walls, and the boots just need you to break some wooden planks.
Every piece except the cloak can be refined. The Abyss Cores that come pre-socketed in each piece can be removed and transferred to other gear if you find better modifiers later.
Starting from the central fast travel point in Demeniss, an efficient collection route is: cloak (north) and gloves (northeast) first, then the chest armor (south Bell Tower), and finally the boots (outside the south gate).
Lore
The Helfryn leather armor set belonged to Gabriel Caliburn, the Duke of the Kingdom of Demeniss. Each piece carries its own historical flavor text. The boots, for example, became so popular after Caliburn's rise to power that even the wealthiest individuals struggled to acquire a pair. The gloves are noted for their premium leather, refined seams, and an adjustable buckle designed to fit any hand size. The cloak has a sturdy hide outer layer with a soft pelt lining for warmth and protection.
How these pieces ended up scattered across hidden rooms, attics, and sewer drains throughout Demeniss is never explicitly explained, but finding them all feels like piecing together the wardrobe of a legendary figure one secret at a time.
